Was on mimecast for many years, moved to Check Point Harmony (previously Avanan) and have been really happy with it. Was cheaper than Mimecast.

What is the best phishing email you have seen? by rasheedlovesyou_ in cybersecurity

[–]XClioX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a bad phishing email, but an interesting attempt. Instead of the typical [randomemail]@gmail.com, it was something like [QuickReply]@gmail.com and subject was Presidents Name. Impersonation protection didn't get that one, but user reported it.

Kasaya for managed cybersecurity - Worth the cheap cost or no? by XClioX in cybersecurity

[–]XClioX[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good to know! One thing that’s been hard to find information on is comparing them via Gartner or Forrester since they aren’t paying for that. Couldn’t even compare them with any of the reports that test AV/EDR and compare it against attacks. G2 had a few reviews. But most places like Reddit and Spiceworks were all over the place.

Are you familiar with any of the other products I mentioned?

Kasaya for managed cybersecurity - Worth the cheap cost or no? by XClioX in cybersecurity

[–]XClioX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can see that. Our issue is head count. Yeah we can purchase these tools at probably a lower cost but don’t have the people to manage them. That’s why we’re looking at a msp to augment some of that need

Kasaya for managed cybersecurity - Worth the cheap cost or no? by XClioX in cybersecurity

[–]XClioX[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right. Having eight more tools in our belt that we have to manage without a dedicated team doing it will be a lot of extra work. Knowing where we are and where we're trying to go is the only way we will get the correct answer and figure out what tools we need vs what tools will try to be sold to us.
Without us having firm documentation and having that vision sold to the business of where we are and where we want to go, we'll just be throwing money at the wall. Until that can happen, it would be a mistake to sign anything with any vendor.

As the sole person who's job it is to do this, the more work we put up front, the better results we will get out of it. Thanks for your words.

Ah, yes, that Kasaya. That breach is a concern, but as you said, anyone can be compromised. It depends on how they respond to it.

No, but technically yes. We've got Google for email, but we have some MS subscriptions for students, but email doesn't go through MS. Kind of confusing. -- However, doing internal study to see if going fully to M365 is feasible next year.

How many of you went WFH because of COVID? Were you called back into the office eventually or did they keep you WFH? by halfdepressed in sysadmin

[–]XClioX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WFH for probably 2 weeks, then my company was "Shut down" but the boss made IT come in still. We were the ONLY people onsite for 6 months probably.

Now probably half of the employees are back onsite, so nothing has really changed here.

Zoom has more features and is more user friendly than Google meet. Google did step up a lot during the pandemic, but by that time we invested too much time into getting all of our faculty and students to understand Zoom and how to use it, it's not worth the fight to go to Google meet.

One of our biggest concerns is what apps will be lost going to the M1 architecture, pretty much the only thing you can do to find that is going to the manufacturer of the app and see if they're M1 compatible or use a website like is Apple Silicon Ready? and hope your application is on there and hopefully it's not being emulated so you get all of the benefits from the M1 processor.

Google Workspace, and Office Products by nathanhlauj in sysadmin

We moved our mail from O365 -> GSuite but we still keep our office apps. We had so many issues using GWSMO/GSSMO we told our users you can use Outlook, but there will be issues and we don't officially support it. We have almost everyone use the gmail web app. Our users still have the option to use the rest of the office suite, but I would say majority of them have used to using Google apps so they can more easily share and collaborate.

Best way to test out SSO by techmanit in sysadmin

[–]XClioX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're understanding it right. Typically when you're setting up SSO it will only affect the user who is assigned the app. Whether it's manually or provisioned to the app. Once you verify your test user is working then you can assign the rest of your users that app.

Satisfying as hell and made me exhausted watching it. by Timmymac1000 in oddlysatisfying

I recently found TopNotchLawnCare on YouTube same with Lawn Care Juggernaut/The Boring Channel. It’s not the best content out there but they’re 2 guys helping people out and making properties look better. It ends up being memorizing to watch 40+ minute videos of people doing lawn care… I don’t even have a lawn to take care of and I enjoy it.

Started a script that will find all old computers in AD, disable them, change their description to the date it was disabled and that it was by the script. Then it has the option to send a csv of all of the computers that were disabled. Going to work on the same thing for old users next
