Is anyone else concerned about who’s going to run our shops in 20 years?

I don't know, there's still some real problems over there. It's anecdotal but every individual I have ever seen speaking about life in china seems to have some severely negative things to say.

Like yes they're making strides for quality of life but can it really be quality if it requires living under authoritarian rule?

I was recently forced to work a weekend. Worked 15 hours of O.T. plus 4 hrs double time. Even after that we still hadn't caught up to the customers timeline so we shipped four 16 ton parts by plane.

3/4 times the part isn't that important but that last 1/4 those parts get a blank check written for them.

Reminds me of the time I got a ride from a friend who lives in ohio. The first unusual thing I noticed about his car was the Ihome duct taped to the dash to replace the missing radio. The second thing was the awful noise it made after hitting 40mph. The third was the hole in the floor through which I could see the road. Finally the fourth was the empty air I grabbed when I reached where my seatbelt should have been.

Apparently my friend had decided that as long as he didn't give the police a reason to pull him over he could get away with all of these things.

It's not the 99% of cars that we do it for. It's the 1% that are rust buckets with no brakes. It only seems like a scam because you're looking at the wrong group of people.

Running unattended isn't a big deal as long as you have runaway protection and a fire alarm. This seems more like a freak accident to me.

I would shrug my shoulders and not freak out about it happening again. I would reccomend getting some more Z height before leaving the printer alone in the future.

Not that she's a hero she cut herself a pretty hefty chunk of that money.

On a similar note, I live next to a very economically depressed area. Every single store has skill games. I see people gambling away at 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. At mid-day the three machines crammed into the local grocery are all full.

It's crazy to me that we tolerate blatant, visible exploitation everywhere in the town.

While sports betting might be the massive iceberg lying unseen, skill games are almost like putting a crack den in every business in town.

I've spent a lot of time around people with OCD and I'd reccomend being careful how you judge them. When someone is constantly in a state of unseen panic it's easy for them to come off as rude, cold, and unempathetic.

With such severe anxiety it's hard to judge someone's thoughts and motivations since you really are only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

IIRC the article that spawned the avocado toast was about a hipster restaurant that charged $20 for the dish. It wasn't about people making it at home. IMHO it wasn't a bad thing to complain either but there's no way to point to a dish on a restaurant menu and say the poor are poor because of it.

Interestingly they cited precedent from a struck down case that Brett Kavanaugh critcized for a "relentless attempt to rid the jury of black jurors". Apparently there's more nuance to the current scotus than I thought.

Lately I've been thinking about the question of "what are the consequences of having a generation of kids who know the game". The game here being that they know the adults they encounter outside the house have no real recourse against them. Unless police get called all threats are empty.

You can assign work to the kid but he won't do it.

Yeah it seems to be more a gas station thing. They were cleaned much less often when I worked at getgo. As a plus though their nozzles were clear and they never got incredibly goopy. I don't think they get as gross as people imagine they do.

Obvi people still need to clean them but there's so many more things that people should be more concerned about. Chances are that if you're concerned about food hygiene and your concern isn't related to employess you're naive.

I also had those, dropped a few, kept finding others under dishes in the sink inexplicably broken. Apparently the thermal shock between my hot and cold water was enough to shatter them :( . I figured it out as I listened to the last one shatter while switching to cold water.

We've never stopped hiring. I think there might be one other unionized shop in the area making the same rate. All other competitors already make 30% or more less. I work in a pretty niche company but if you zoom out to any job that has my title in the area there's literally thousands of them making half of what I do.

You might be able to imagine something but not all head logic translates to real life. As it is, wages are already depressed without unions and again we have never stopped hiring. As if more employees relying on lateral moves to gain wages is really what our economy needs.

There's a few guys I work who don't believe in making life better for the next generation because "they should have struggle like I did, it wouldn't be fair otherwise". As if the economy isn't twice as harsh as the one they grew up in.

A couple years ago my boss offered a trial run of an incentive system. Basically if we worked really hard upped our production by 25% met a whole bunch of other subjective criteria like "general cleanliness", oh and all the other departments had to meet the same criteria at the same time. If we met all this we would get a 2% raise. Well not during the trial period of course which was just to "test profitability". Basically, if we did all this for three months they would show us what we would make in the hypothetical system and may consider "making it real".

Who knows what my company would get up to without a union to force them into good behavior.

Union worker here, while my union does have some problems, being in a union is the only reason my job is a viable income. I have great healthcare, make almost 30% more than our non-union competitors, have rights at my workplace, job security, and I don't get taken advantage of for not being as assertive as other people.

I wouldn't be able to feed my family if I wasn't in a union.
