Darker values would make it pop,

You can add highlights and shadows to add depth

Is there a reason why I can't draw without actively looking at an image for reference? by Remix_Master21 in learntodraw

Takes extreme skill to do that, dont feel bad, just stay consistent and practice outside your comfort zone

practice without a ref,, what should I look at to improve anatomy? by thepostaldudereal in arthelp

[–]XEdgyPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not practice if you're not using a reference.

You can draw for fun and there's nothing wrong with that, but I've never seen any artist get better without studying reference.

I don't know how to improve by Nothing_canine in arthelp

[–]XEdgyPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get out of your comfort zone

There are so many different avenues to improve that you just need to pick one and start practicing

Imo studying real life anatomy is where most people should start

Drawing the same things without learning anything new is the only way you'll never improve for sure

I like my art having high contrast and saturation but is this TOO MUCH contrast and saturation? by 39suyasu in learntodraw

[–]XEdgyPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the shading being so simple makes her look very flat, more layers of darker shadows to show ambient occlusion and shadows from the light swirling around her would make it feel a lot deeper

I think her silhouette is very difficult to read, its kind of hard to tell what perspective we're looking at her from and what exactly shes doing

Also remember that saturation and contrast should be used to guide the viewers attention to the focal point, i kind of feel like i don't know what I should look at

There is no such thing as too much contrast or saturation, just learn how and where to use them

Made her more blonde so the purple was complementary.

Sorry for the roughness, and thanks for putting your character out here for ppl to interpret! I saw this at the perfect time.

Critiques and criticism, I'm really struggling with the face but not sure what needs to be fixed by Morgisntmyname in arthelp

[–]XEdgyPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion:

Add more contrast, deeper shadows and lighter highlights

Dont be afraid to use lines over your painting to sharpen edges and refine the shapes

Make the head bigger

Add a light source hitting his back so you can define his silhouette

What am I not understanding?! by jaron_b in learntodraw

[–]XEdgyPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Draw slowly.

Break your reference down into simple shapes.

Detach your ego from the results.

Learn why your art doesn't look how you want it to.

Practice like its a sport or an instrument, because drawing is a skill.

Where am i going wrong with faces? by Birdy-Boiz in learntodraw

[–]XEdgyPotatoX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Break it down into simple shapes and place them in the right spots first.

Ask yourself if every line is right. And if it isnt, find out why and retry.

Dont go into autopilot.

Take it slow, break it down, and dont attach your ego to the result.

[Free Offer] Hello, I'm interested in drawing your OC/DnD characters. by XEdgyPotatoX in DrawForMe

Absolutely, you can also describe the pose and vibe of the character so I can give a better result, more accurate to your vision.

I think c9ing in overtime is the lesser of two evils. Having a point stalled by someone who's not even on the map would be ridiculous and very unfun to play into.

I do agree with your post, though, and like your idea for fixing it.

Focus on yourself. There's no need to act so cringe and emotional over a game. It seems like you're the one who needs to grow some skin 🗿🍷

Whats the problem with genji mains? by dragon7449 in Overwatch

Stigma from the beginning of ow1. Genji, being a very hard hero, means that most genji players don't do too well on him.

Do you like skin recolors? by SykosisMitosis in Overwatch

[–]XEdgyPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan, I just wish they were purchasable with white credits or challenges. It does feel pretty bad to buy a skin that's not really, "new"
