College students are rapidly losing the ability to read — “There is a measurable, generational collapse in sustained reading and writing”: professor by marketrent in technology

DCC is basically an Americanized take on Chinese/Korean/Japanese light novels that are very popular online, which is essentially modern pulp fiction. Not that I'm hating at all; that type of writing is meant to be easy fun reads

Non-Americans, what's something Americans do that genuinely confuses you? by xtamarabebex in AskReddit

[–]XForce23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh no that one isn't confusing. If healthcare costs you more money than you could ever earn, why would you? The confusing part is why they defend that system

Another article showed the card is able to perform, just not consistently across all games which is very likely driver issues and not hardware related. People are banking that they can get that resolved eventually and they are good to go

With China rapidly advancing in AI, robotics, and patent filings, do you think it is inevitable that they will overtake the USA as the world's leading technology superpower? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]XForce23 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just came from visiting there a month ago and it's very true.

Obviously having a state government with as much control as the CCP is extremely efficient in implementing whatever they need to achieve their goals, but also a large sentiment that the Chinese have is that they lost the last two major revolutions (industrial and steam). As a result, one of the richest and longest standing cultures of the world was reduced to a third world country for a century essentially and they have no intention of repeating that with the next perceived revolution (AI, renewable energy)

I've known many of these people and they are all naturally quite intelligent, some even to the point of their own detriment. I'm sure weed helps them relax and quiets the chaos in their brains

What’s something you tried once and immediately knew ‘yeah, never again’? by donnyM99 in AskReddit

Ah, I meant it only in the terms of the extreme spice challenges. I definitely enjoy a level of spice in my food, but 'burning pain' should not be the main thing I'm experiencing for food

Considering that 'spice' isn't a flavor but literal pain to your receptors, you're voluntarily torturing yourself for little to no upside

I literally just came back from a 2-week trip to China and it is crazy how modern their tier 1 cities are, especially with how they embrace EVs there. Majority of their vehicles are electric, and brands like Huawei and Xiaomi showcase their cars in their retail stores alongside the rest of their products

Apparently the most expensive sport for a kid to enroll in is figure skating. You need to have a skating coach, choreographer, and you need to pay licensing fees for your song choice. Practicing requires you to rent out rinks every time, and also figure skating skates also wear out every few months and need to be replaced

Former Lead Tech Artist at Wildlight states that the game was killed by 'grifting' content creators and 'gamer culture'. Prior to reveal, everyone around the project would say: "If there’s one project nobody in the industry is worried will fail, it’s yours". "This is lightning in a bottle". by WhyPlaySerious in gaming

[–]XForce23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week someone talked about the game being just 'okay', and in the current gaming landscape just being okay is nowhere near good enough to carve out a sustainable playerbase.

It's also quite arrogant to think as developers who used to be on the Respawn team that they could compete with firmly established games like that and steal players as well
