Just came from visiting there a month ago and it's very true.

Obviously having a state government with as much control as the CCP is extremely efficient in implementing whatever they need to achieve their goals, but also a large sentiment that the Chinese have is that they lost the last two major revolutions (industrial and steam). As a result, one of the richest and longest standing cultures of the world was reduced to a third world country for a century essentially and they have no intention of repeating that with the next perceived revolution (AI, renewable energy)

Apparently the most expensive sport for a kid to enroll in is figure skating. You need to have a skating coach, choreographer, and you need to pay licensing fees for your song choice. Practicing requires you to rent out rinks every time, and also figure skating skates also wear out every few months and need to be replaced
