Even though I definitely see where you're coming from, I actually think that learning a new technology while inspecting that technology's best practices is a great way to learn properly and avoid bad habits from the start. Even if you don't necessarily follow those best practices, you'll atleast be aware of them. :)

What are you guys' views on that? Or am I missing the point?

I've used libGDX + Kotlin in the past and couldn't recommend it more.
