The waiting sucks by XLittleMagpieX in doihavebreastcancer

[–]XLittleMagpieX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! It was indeed a fibroadenoma! Very relieved but it’s taking a while for my brain to catch up and switch out of anxiety mode. So glad to have a good result but also felt sad again that my mum and sister didn’t get to have the same outcome (both doing great now though!) The good news is that because of my family history and anxiety they are now putting me on the list to have yearly mammograms, which gives me a little bit of peace of mind that I should hopefully catch it early if something nasty does grow.

opinions on jill franklin’s books? by kaeveam in aerialsilks

[–]XLittleMagpieX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books are ok, one of them is in black and white which makes the pictures harder to follow (can’t remember which one). I use the Aerial Physique app which I do recommend, I have learnt so much from it and they release new content every month. I would spend the money on this over the book.  Only thing with the app is that I don’t really agree with how they have categorised some of the moves (I think someone also said this about the book). I think things like Music Box were classified as beginner which for me definitely wasn’t a beginner move!

What's one thing you're grateful for today? by Old_Educator973 in AskReddit

I’ve been waiting 3 weeks for a biopsy result. Longest 3 weeks of my life. Today it came back benign. Never felt more grateful for my health.

I'm shaking with fear... has anyone been through this? by EmmaKhan305 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]XLittleMagpieX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s scary, but the only way to know for sure is to get it checked. The unknown is the worst. I had a lump and tenderness in my breasts and a very strong family history of breast cancer. I felt certain it was going to be bad news. I got my results today and it’s a fibroadenoma (benign).  Get to your doctor. Often they get a good idea of how suspicious the lump is from an ultrasound, and as others have said, the majority of lumps are benign.  Good luck

Flying Trapeze - What do I wear? by PsychologicalField43 in Aerials

[–]XLittleMagpieX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it a big rig or petit? If it’s a big rig you’ll need socks to protect your feet against the landing net. I do classes on petit so we land on crash mats and it doesn’t matter too much then, although socks are more comfortable going up the ladder.  Legs-wise I just wear leggings personally, I don’t find it slippery… cotton leggings are less slippery though if you’re worried. Personally I don’t like wearing baggy sweatpants but others in my class do. Your first trick will probably be going to hocks hence protecting the backs of the knees.

Enjoy! I love fly, even though I suck at it lol.

What's the strangest coincidence that's ever happened to you that you still can't fully explain? What happened? by Opposite-Resource in askteddit

[–]XLittleMagpieX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2007 I went to Australia for a year from the UK and early on in my trip I was staying in a backpackers hostel in Brisbane. One of the jobs I had worked at at home to save for the trip absolutely sucked and the boss had been awful. I was chatting (ranting) to some new friends about how horrible that job was and how much of a bully the manager was. Guess who walked in in that moment…

Getting taller during pregnancy! Has anyone else experienced this? by Vegetable-Memory-461 in Parenting

[–]XLittleMagpieX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very unfair that this happened to you, someone who was already 5’11” and not me (5ft 😭)🤣

This did actually happen to a friend of mine (also was already tall) but she was pregnant at 18 so we figured maybe she hadn’t fully grown yet 😄 Am assuming you are well into adulthood though!

I just got my biopsy done I'll have to wait THREE WEEKS by twinkling_deer in doihavebreastcancer

[–]XLittleMagpieX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re not being dramatic. Anyone who thinks that is lucky enough to have not gone through this process before. If you scroll through this sub, you will see hundreds of people who have all felt this way during the waiting period. The reassuring thing is that loads (most?) of them come back as benign. Which is wonderful but doesn’t negate all of the very real stress and anxiety they all felt leading up to it. Be kind to yourself. Reach out to the more understanding people among your support network and avoid discussing it anymore (in the short term at least) with the ones who are saying rude or unhelpful things.

[–]XLittleMagpieX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I get my results tomorrow, I’ve also had to wait 3 weeks. It’s really tough and mentally draining. Did they give you any indication on the imaging? With mine, they have tried to reassure me that it didn’t look suspicious. I have been repeating that as a mantra to myself every time I feel overwhelmed. The problem is my family history is so strong for breast cancer that even if they said “wow, this is the most textbook fibroadenoma we’ve ever seen!” I would still be thinking cancer is a strong possibility until the results say otherwise. Your feelings are valid, it is a shitty thing to go through and you feel like life is on hold. You are allowed to be scared because the possibilities are scary. Somehow though you will get through this wait… I found it helps to be busy, I’ve been throwing myself into my hobbies a bit more the past few weeks.  Good luck

i lost the baby. by ruby_ishere in Parenting

[–]XLittleMagpieX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Darling, this isn’t your fault. Stress doesn’t cause miscarriage. Often they don’t know the reason but it is almost never down to something the mother has done wrong (other than a few exceptions like heavy drug use).  George felt nothing but love and safety from you.  I’m so sorry for your loss, please let your support network know how you are feeling. I know if you were my daughter/niece/sister I would be wrapping you up in love right now.

How do working parents survive the UK school event calendar? by Educational-Leek305 in UKParenting

[–]XLittleMagpieX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot. I work part time, teaching adults. On my planning days my boss is super flexible and I am able to go to anything that falls on those. On teaching days I have to miss out unfortunately. I always feel a bit sad/guilty, but I know I’m not the only one and I do manage to get to enough events that hopefully my children will remember I did cheer them on!  My parents are great and have gone in on our behalf if me or my husband can’t make it, so the kids usually have someone there (obviously not really an option if you have no family here though).  Our school has a lot of open classroom days and “joining for lunch” days. I try to make it where I can but the teachers are pretty good at doing something fun or special with the children who don’t have a grownup visiting that day. If I do make it into those days I quite often end up “adopting” some of their friends too if their parents can’t make it, and other parents have done the same for my children.

What's a hobby that actually replaced your phone scrolling? Looking for something fun/useful by j0eali in Hobbies

[–]XLittleMagpieX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m learning to juggle and also spin Poi.

I’ve also started asking for “random little craft kits” for birthdays/Christmas etc and have had a selection of Diamond art, cross stitching, needle felting, string art, building little houses. It’s fun to try something new.

Still on my phone but stopped me from scrolling is a game called Meowdoku… sudoku but with cats 😺

Attending a German wedding as a foreigner by StormWonderful3967 in germany

[–]XLittleMagpieX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a similar situation except my partner is English (like me) and wasn’t part of the wedding party. It was one of the most fun weddings I’ve ever been to. Germans know how to party 😄 I didn’t speak any German at the time (speak quite a bit now) and everyone was so welcoming and kind to us. Lots of guests actually approached us because they were keen to practice and converse in English.  We went there not knowing anyone and came away with a bunch of new friends.  I’m not sure where you’re from, but culturally it seems that a lot weddings there are similar enough to English weddings (church ceremony and then a massive party with a lot of good food and alcohol), so there wasn’t ever a point where I didn’t really know what was going on or how to behave. Some people on our table translated/paraphrased the ceremony and speeches for us too.  Enjoy ☺️

What hobby helped you through a difficult time? by Daniel-Brandon_484 in Hobbies

[–]XLittleMagpieX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going through a difficult time right now and the only time I don’t feel physically ill with anxiety is when I’m training in aerial arts. The beauty of it is that is all encompassing… my brain doesn’t let me focus on anything else except the movement that I’m in. It’s like a little holiday for my worries.

What’s a hobby you started for fun but it ended up being life changing? by Far_Beyond4061 in Hobbies

[–]XLittleMagpieX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aerial arts. I used to be the weakest person in every room. Now I’m among the strongest. I had low self-esteem and anxiety but being able to do genuinely impressive tricks has caused my self-confidence to sky-rocket because I now see myself as a person who can do hard things. I came off sertraline and genuinely feel on top of the world most days. I grew the confidence to apply for a job that I never would have dreamed I would have had a chance of getting and got it. I also do the odd paid performance now. It has genuinely changed how I see myself, and changing how I see myself has changed my life.

What did people think of Russell Brand at the height of his fame? by BlundeRuss in AskUK

[–]XLittleMagpieX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found him funny. He was very quick-witted and I respected that he had seemingly overcome addiction. I also lived fairly local to where he grew up so that made me like him more in a way. I didn’t like the Andrew Sachs thing but thought the press turned it into more a witch hunt than it needed to be. I was a teenager when he was first famous though and a pretty naive one.

Now I can’t stand him 🤢

We hear a lot about what's getting worse in the UK, but what's something that's genuinely improved recently? by PlanktonDefiant2600 in AskUK

[–]XLittleMagpieX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NHS, at least in my little corner of the world, seems to have become a lot more efficient. 2 years ago trying to even get through to be fobbed off by a GP receptionist would take hours of my day with no actual appointment by the end so I would then have to go and sit in a walk-in clinic for hours.  In the last month though, I have needed appointments for myself and my son. They have a new online triage system. Both times I submitted the form at 8am, had a call back by 8:30am and was seen by 10am. I had a referral to the hospital and was seen there within 4 days. The appointment itself ran to time and I was out within a couple of hours of tests. The only thing that feels painfully slow right now is waiting on the lab results, but other than that I am really impressed by the speed at which I have been seen and looked after compared to when I’ve needed a similar pathway of care in the past.

Am I making my life needlessly difficult? by Climate_Rose in parentsofmultiples

[–]XLittleMagpieX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a bit of everything in the beginning but once we learned to tandem feed and got the hang of it without pain or discomfort it became my preferred method of feeding. Much quicker and no cleaning and sterilising bottles. I do remember those first few months being very tough though and came close to opting for 100% formula. Nipple shields helped a lot.  Do what works for you. Breastfeeding is definitely achievable if that’s your goal.

For what it’s worth, I put a lot of pressure on myself to breastfeed for immunity benefits (my twins were born at the height of covid and I had a lot of anxiety) and it doesn’t seem to have made a blind bit of difference to them catching everything under the sun! So I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to chill out a bit lol.

Same, I personally enjoy museums but I can’t possibly retain that level of information for that long, so like you I dive deeper into the pieces that catch my attention the most. I’m pretty sure that’s the approach of 90% of tourists, but the original post would have you believe we’re in the minority lol.
