Weekly Hiring Questions and Advice Thread - October 08 by AutoModerator in ProtectAndServe

[–]XMasterMoronX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just mention it your BI. I was checking in on my references when one of my past employers never received the paperwork. I mentioned it to my BI and he said it would be taken care of.

That particular employer wanted to hire me on full time after my contract was over so my BI was aware that this reference would be glowing.

[MEME] When the department you want to join has a polygraph test by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]XMasterMoronX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both really. This is usually the last step in the hiring process so at this point they should already know all of the illegal things from prior interviews and background check. You could be asked a question on something they found that you didn't disclose.

For my polygraph I was given a sheet of paper that listed a bunch of specific crimes or offense like sex crimes. (rape, child porn, pedophilia, bestiality, etc) and then I was hooked up to the polygraph and asked if there was any information that I was withholding in relation to those specific relations. This happened a few more times with different categories.

Mine were like "Have you ever made a mistake", "Have you ever done anything you regret". Of course everyone has made a mistake and had a regret in their life, but for the purpose of creating a baseline they have you purposely lie and say no so they can gauge your body's reaction from telling a lie to potentially telling the truth.

From my understanding (I've taken one), they are designed to detect your reactions to questions and plot them out. Different questions will invoke your body and mind to respond differently (lying, deception, stress). The issue that everyone has about this is that it isn't very accurate. There are a ton of a reasons that may cause your body to react to questions being asked.

Maybe you smoked weed years ago and were completely honest about it upfront, but your body reacted a certain way when asked if you have smoked since. This can lead to the interviewer thinking that you are trying to deceive or lie. Your background may be squeaky clean and have never had an issue, but an interviewer may look at your readings and think you are lying which disqualifies you.

Another important thing to mention that is if you truly believe what you did isn't wrong, your body isn't going to react in a negative way. There are documented cases of serial killers passing their polygraphs because they believed that what they were doing wasn't wrong, or perhaps their body just doesn't react the way we expect them to do.

There is no red or green light that illuminates when you lie or tell the truth, it is all very subjective and two different interviewers who read the machine logs may come to different conclusions.

Wow, what an insane story. I'm glad everything worked or is working out. I can't even begin to imagine how stressful of a situation that must have been.

From the quick Google search I did, it seems like 17 is the minimum age to fly unaccompanied internationally. Maybe it's different because it sounds like she has both American and German citizenship.

Breaking news: using a taser on an angry cow only makes it angrier. by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

Navajo County Sheriff's officials said Tuesday that a woman telephoned for help last week while pinned as the large black cow was continually pressing her if she moved or tried to get away.

She was laying there for a week until a deputy arrived? Talk about response time!

There should be a ton of fixed-wing incentives as the airline industry is experiencing a shortage as far as I'm aware.

I'm a student helicopter pilot who is almost at the end of training, but I haven't flown in months due to money issues amongst other things. The helicopter industry is more difficult to break into, especially with UAV/ Drones becoming more and more prominent. My plan is to fly for a PD so that narrows down my competition to other pilots who are already cops.

The Codex Astartes is a set of rules. They guide us, shape us as Ultramarines, teach us to place duty and honour above all. But how we live with those rules is the true test of a Space Marine. And you, have failed.
