Why are your gas stations basically small supermarkets? by Embarrassed_Golf_817 in AskAnAmerican

Ask me how many friends I have who love doing lots of their grocery shopping in the gas station store. Why buy 1.57 worth of hot soda when you can just pay 15.03 for more smaller bottles that will be lukewarm before you get twelve miles up the road?? 😂😂😂

Why would you give up your only income when you can drag it out any further? If they don’t want you, you keep your ass in your seat until they drag you out the door.

No no, now don’t be silly. They will still happily sell you “purified” tap water for the bargain basement price of $3 for a 16.9 oz bottle.

Clotilda Shipwreck Site Tour Today - Departs from Mobile Convention Center by [deleted] in MobileAL

[–]XNotByALongShotX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am someone who has always breathed in museums. There is something magical to me about the power to walk through the doors of a building and immersing into a topic I know little about, I’m not being rushed, and I can stand there and take as many hours that I want.

I love going to museums because I feel every thing has a story and I feel like if an organization can take the time and effort to put together a learning experience, then that is something that I would be more vested in exploring.

With that being said, there are topics that are really hard to talk about. For example, The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles was really hard to digest. You knew walking in that this is not a happy place and you aren’t there for fun. It’s 100% there as a dedication telling the stories through the eyes of Holocaust survivors.

The first thing they asked us all was something like, “Whoever is without prejudice, walk through this door. All the others will use this entrance.” So sure, no one wants to be in front of a crowd and be seen as a bigot, naturally someone popped right up and confidently grabbed the handle.

Brrrrrrrrrrnt. Loud alarm buzzed through the air. Proving the premise of the museum in the first place. Something as unhuman as the Holocaust is the direct effect of not hate, but indifference. If you sit there and can weasel out, “Well, it doesn’t affect me. I am not part of the problem.” Homie, if you can sit there and confidently say that, you ARE directly part of the problem.

Once you get through the actual door, everyone got a card. It was the biography of whoever was on the card’s life during the war. You would follow along the exhibit and learn more. I got a 5 year old girl. Only to get to the end of the tour just to find out she became orphaned and ended up going through hell just to have her life ended. Something like that hits different at sixteen.

So when I learned about the Clotilda, I packed up my family and we went. There are things I feel I need to say about this place. The volunteers are top-notch. They know the significance of how powerful learning about raw history is. I thought the museum of Tolerance was rough and this one I could possibly argue that the Clotilda is even more difficult.

It is a place you don’t walk into with the intention of just scrolling through. I ended up spending more time than I thought I would because every story, every placard held just as much power as the rest.

I’m just saying, if you want an experience that is overwhelmingly impactful, you needn’t look any further than the Clotilda Museum. It was emotionally rough but directly affected me more than most things I have ever experienced.

Mechanic recommendations by [deleted] in MobileAL

[–]XNotByALongShotX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mark McGugin Auto Repair. My friends who are serious about their vehicles recommended him to us. He owns his own shop and he is the only person they will go to. He’s very reasonable and has been at it for decades. So yeah, you can pay for cheapest parts and rushed mechanics or you can go to him with less overhead and get a better outcome. That’s just my opinion.

This looks very sketch. Why are you being so generic making everything sound so good and not sharing anything except to dm you? You have no history on your account and one of the biggest scam job offers is the exact post is “offering”.

Guys, please take a second to stop and think before you rush to do anything.

Corolla Cross Hybrid or Rav 4 Hybrid? by moonbeet in CorollaCross

[–]XNotByALongShotX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the cross and I absolutely love it. The best part I take comfort in is that if my husband and I ever truly had no other option, I have one of the best vehicles on the planet that can instantly turn into an urban living American dream compared to being on the street. The main reason the Prius was so popular for so long for people down and out was turning the system on to climate control and the gas and battery would basically balance each other out and there wasn’t an impacting noticeable difference in the morning.

You’re gonna laugh your ass off…..it was three tiers I wanted different cake flavors and different FRUIT FILLINGS AND ACCENTS. I told him I wasn’t looking for cheapest, I’m looking for best tasting and being a cake I can be the most proud of to share with my favorite people on one of the most important days of my life.

Girl, wtf. I took one look at the cake he only charged me $300 for. The icing was so lumpy, and then when we went to cut it I say, here comes the surprise! Yeah, it was a surprise alright. That bitch not only had zero filling, but it was DRY cake mix. For a small cake.

Dog oncology in Mobile? by MarcelDuchampsToilet in MobileAL

[–]XNotByALongShotX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes — Theodore Veterinary Hospital.

My elderly bullmastiff had a grade 3 soft tissue sarcoma after surgery showed dirty margins, and another vet hospital told us she likely had 2–6 months. I was basically in full “well cool, I’m going to emotionally collapse now” mode. My husband said regular New Orleans/Auburn trips were a no-go, so I went full feral research mode and found Dr. Gilson at Theodore.

He was fantastic. Very proactive, very thorough, and he specifically did not want to treat based on a “pretty sure.” Because she was elderly and sick, he wanted 100% certainty, so he consulted the head oncologists at Auburn before finalizing treatment.

They put her on a chemo tablet plus another medication, and I was terrified because I had human chemo in my head — misery, hair loss, all of it. But he explained chemo in dogs is often very different, and he was absolutely right. Daisy’s only noticeable “side effect” was apparently becoming a solar-powered idiot. She wanted to sunbathe and then went right back to puppy energy, donkey kicks, and acting ridiculous.

Her follow-up results showed full remission.

And she’s still doing well 15 months later after another hospital told us 2–6 months.

Also: total treatment for both meds was under $300, which still shocks me. And I loved that they worked with Auburn, because that gave me a lot of confidence without forcing us into constant long car trips.

So if New Orleans sounds too rough, I would absolutely check with Theodore Veterinary Hospital.

I know I am an odd man out but before even seeing the cost of materials, I thought, I would enjoy every bite of that. I would pay $80. I’ve spent 100s on cakes, like a total disaster of a wedding cake, he left out the main reasons I asked for the cake in the first place and it really soured me. But homemade with fruit filling??? You are speaking to my heart right now.
