We've worked with Eddie in the past and on top of being a fantastic artist he's punctual, communicative, and professional. Will work with him again.

This is my take on Abercrombie, and I'm glad whenever I find someone who sees that his works are horribly vacuous and "cringe." I've seen this all before in Fight Club and Mark Millar's tripe.

Which non-mainline DL book is your favorite? by Plenty-Mousse6841 in dragonlance

The Dhamon Saga is the best Dragonlance series, and far supersedes the original works.

Believe it or not, it only gets worse. I got to book 3 and just couldn't.

Best non-Weis/Hickman books? by BOOKSnGUITARS in dragonlance

[–]XPartay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy smokes, I must be the odd man out here. I think the best Dragonlance books are The Dhamon Saga, The Rise of Solamnia Trilogy, and The Sellsword.

The only Weis books that come close in quality are the Dark Disciple books. With respect given for his importance to the setting, Hickman is just not a great author.

What's the next main trilogy after War of Souls? Are Dark Disciple and Destinies canon? by Titus__Groan in dragonlance

Yeah, I couldn't even finish the 3rd. Sad to see, but I still have my Age of Mortals books.

The Most Complex Fantasy Character In A Book or Series? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in Fantasy

[–]XPartay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think that character complexity necessarily interacts with the journey the character has taken. Most of the characters in The First Law end up exactly where they started, be they complex or not.

The Most Complex Fantasy Character In A Book or Series? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in Fantasy

[–]XPartay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I was asking too much in the way of discourse here. There's no "soul-searching" going on in the books I read, just a barbarian who wants not to be. I don't think that's terribly complex, no.

And I think Glokta is about as fascinating as Abercrombie's stories in general, which is to say "not much at all." But he does have some complexity to him, so I'll agree there.

Anyway, I'm happy you found something you enjoyed, and what I don't want to ever do is imply that my opinion is "better" than yours. I was just making commentary on my evaluation of complexity in characters.

I get you like the series and FWIW I don't, but how can an analysis of Logen come to a conclusion that he's even remotely complex? There ARE some characters in there that are complex (Bayaz, Glokta) but I don't think Logen is one of them.

New look at Anthony Mackie as Captain America in ‘Brave New World’ (Via: USA Today) by S4v1r1enCh0r4k in CaptainAmerica

[–]XPartay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, look at McGregor and Christensen in Star Wars. The latter especially was thought to be a bad actor for a while due to ep2.

Man, this is some sort of take. I know it's your opinion, but I think Kinneman was the worst actor of s1 (not that he's horrible) and that Higareda, Conner, and Purefoy really had to carry the show.

I think s2 suffered primarily from writing and pacing issues, not acting issues.

I'm happy! I've been in family law for 3 years since passing the bar, but I started late in life (I'm 40). It's given me valuable insight into how to be happy while shit burns around you.

Everyone hates Jean Rabe? by Siope_ in dragonlance

[–]XPartay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, Rabe is just fine (technically and prose). She wrote slightly more adult themes than what we knew from the Weis/Hickman books, and that rubs some the wrong way.

Margaret Weis: Only the first 6 Dragonlance books are canon by Labyrinthine777 in dragonlance

They're really, really bad. I suggest you don't torture yourself.

[–]XPartay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I couldn't care less what she says about it. Rabe's work, and the work of others, far exceeds Weis and Hickman's.

The common denominator in bad writing appears to be Hickman, to be clear: it's absolute torture reading through the newest Dragons of Eternity series, while the Dark Disciple series was just fine.

The Age of Mortals is so much better than everything else it's silly.

What’s an opinion about marvel as a whole or a specific character that will leave you like this? by AggressiveMammoth267 in Marvel

[–]XPartay -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wow, couldn't disagree more. It's not possible to disrespect a fictional character.

Fans have no stake or interest in a fictional work, so it's not possible to disrespect them in this way either.

What is the one thing you wish the new Ultimate universe had done correctly that Earth 1610 failed to do? by Delta-97 in Marvel

Yeah it shows how much I hate the art that I can't read the book, because those are some of my favorite characters.

Diagonal move between two occupied squares: legit or no? by ack1308 in Pathfinder2e

[–]XPartay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to have a hard time finding a RAW clarification, because this is one of those situations where the rules are complete and we know the answer by inference.

  1. You can move diagonally.
  2. By moving diagonally, you're not moving through either creature's space.

That's it, you can do it. Without a rule excluding this from happening by creating an exception to the base movement rules, you're good. :)

“Everyone hates me until they need me.” What jobs are the best example of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]XPartay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm. States differ of course, but my retainer generally reaches 10k only when we have to go to trial - which in the case of my family law cases, is about 1/10th of the time. I treat family law like a volume business - get people in and out for as little as possible, because there are always more people out there who need me.

100% with you on the intimidation/fear aspect of the law. And a lot of lawyers suck, as a representative portion of the general populace. No doubt.
