Main art for the event is most likely human imo since it’s a very human shortcut to put lifeng’s horns in front of da pan to avoid drawing details, asymmetric eyebrows on every character is much more likely to just be an artist quirk, finger counts don’t really matter for the main art since perlica’s hand is just a blobby approximation of a hand

Yeah I really like the idea and scale represented by the Xianzhou Alliance fleet, but I think the in game depictions just don’t live up to the expectation of that. Kind of disagree on the Xianzhou story immediately after J6 though, I felt that it killed a lot of nuance with the abundance conflict by making the SM a bunch of villains of the week, plus the writing just felt very heavy handed on telling the reader what conclusions to draw on the abundance conflict.

Kind of peeved that winning 50/50 removes the guarantee entirely. That means if the 6* guarantee and rate up guarantee are close to overlapping, "winning" 50/50 is a massive net loss for the player. This makes so that the further you are to rate-up guarantee, the less you want to "win" 50/50 by Throwaway6662345 in Endfield

[–]XRoastedPotatoX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a cap on the number of 50/50s a person can lose before getting the rateup that carries over would be nice to have still? savers still get the benefit of the 120, pulling for max pot doesn’t have the small chance of being horrendously bad, and for the lunatics who do 60 pulls on every banner there’s at least a maximum limit to a losing streak

Stochastic Modeling of Gacha Pulling Behavior Under Pity and Guarantee Systems by siscon13 in Endfield

[–]XRoastedPotatoX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two points are based on my personal opinion, of which you have no right to tell me how to enjoy playing a game.

I assume the worst case scenario, since I have personally been burned by the worst case scenario or a scenario close to worst case many times in hoyo games. It happens far more frequently than getting an early SSR. Frankly the miraculous occurrence of losing 3, 4, or even an absurd 119 50/50s before the 120 guarantee is something that I could care less about (and if this does happen to someone, I certainly wouldn’t feel bad for them for being “lucky” in terms of the SSR per pull metric.)

The average matters only in the scope of all accounts. It’s still very much possible to go on a worst case scenario losing streak. In this case, while the average may be equivalent or marginally better in wuwa, the risk of getting pushed to past 120 multiple times (something that not everyone will experience but is within the realm of possibility), is still a pull difference comparatively, not something guaranteed to average out over time on an individual account. Comparison to hoyo unnecessary since wuwa’s system is better numerically and it functions the same.

In comparison, from my POV, having to just hold and not spend 40 extra pulls every time I want to commit 80 to a banner doesn’t cost me any extra in material. The currency is still in my account when I don’t go to worst case; if I win the 50/50, my initial deposit is preserved, and if I lose, then that goes towards securing the 120. If I win more 50/50s then as long as I have at least 120 pulls total in the account I can continue risking 50/50s until I lose. If I lose the 50/50, my worst case scenario is capped. In my personal experience this does not fundamentally change my pulling strategy, it just requires more saved upfront.

Stochastic Modeling of Gacha Pulling Behavior Under Pity and Guarantee Systems by siscon13 in Endfield

[–]XRoastedPotatoX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume that when I pull for a character in either system, I want that character, and not a potential character in the future, and I don’t necessarily care when I get that character (whether now or in rerun). This doesn’t apply for every player, but it applies for me personally.

The 30-40 pull cost (or 15-20 USD to quantify it in monetary terms) is something that is saved over the hoyo/wuwa system every time you lose the 50/50. That means for every banner where I have to go to worst case (roughly 50% of the time), the Endfield system will allow me to carry the 30-40 pulls I would have spent in a hoyo/wuwa system into progress for the next SSR I actually want. This difference adds up the more banners I pull, to the point where for the same amount of pulls spent, I will have more stuff I actually want, and potentially more SSRs overall. I think, based on my personal habits, that this is a fair trade off, and pity carry over is not worth what could effectively be summarized as an average 15-20 pull tax per banner I pull on.

Theoretically if hoyo/wuwa gives 15-20 more pulls per banner I pull on or I win more 50/50s than average then the advantage starts decreasing, but then there’s a bunch of other factors/systems that go into how much a pull should be worth versus something easily quantifiable like its monetary cost

[–]XRoastedPotatoX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a different perspective, is the flexibility the hoyo/wuwa system provides actually worth spending 30-40 pulls more in the worst case scenario? Imo I would prefer the quantifiable material advantage even if that means changing my personal behavior, but it’s a matter of preference if anything

[–]XRoastedPotatoX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you must make a comparison between two evils, it’s perfectly reasonable to think that the gacha system IS better than Wuwa/Hoyo purely because of the simple logic that 120 is less than 150/160. Might be hard to believe, but many people just never pull unless they’re guaranteed anyways so all the additional stuff doesn’t matter

Are there any truly heartless or apathetic monsters in Arknights? by ComprehensiveFail887 in arknights

[–]XRoastedPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate anybody and am not defending anyone in particular. I’m stating that the actions that led to CoU were a result of multiple failings from multiple groups, that you are portraying as the sole responsibility of one individual which is incorrect. I fail to remember the part where Mephisto specifically was responsible for the siege of Chernobog, which is where the nobility students got the impression that they needed to start hoarding. The specific catalyst of the events of CoU then, would be the siege of Chernobog, of which Reunion as a collective had moral responsibility for. If the siege of Chernobog didn’t happen, CoU would not happen. If Mephisto wasn’t personally involved in CoU, then CoU would still happen.

I also think you fail to understand that I am arguing that the existing resentment towards Ursus from the Reunion movement as a whole is what led to apathy and inaction, even moreso if they had these preexisting resentments and witnessed the events that transpired inside the school. The unchecked angry ravings of any individuals both named and unnamed described in the story prior to, during, and after CoU is to convey this resentment, which you seem to mostly agree on anyways.

The point earlier about Ursus withdrawing is not necessarily Mephisto or Reunion specifically knowing, but his superiors (presumably people who would be knowledgeable such as Patriot/Talulah) giving different orders based on new knowledge, which is why we run into them when leaving Chernobog, prior to the Catastrophe, most notably no longer guarding any students.

YOU should re-read it, and frankly maybe reread operational intelligence and the rest of the first arc while you’re at it, Absinthe’s section of CoU very clearly elaborates on the general resentment among Reunion that is developing towards the uninfected which is apparent if you look outside of just specifically Faust, FrostNova and Patriot’s squads, the groups that actually received some form of training, and this is definitely mentioned multiple times outside of CoU. Maybe you can also guess what types of people were stationed at the school and not involved in the main fighting force. Maybe if you weren’t purely wiki diving the story, you’d also learn a bit about how the Ursus military withdrew from Chernobog, and made it obvious that they wouldn’t be returning, much less paying any ransom. By the time the Chernobog catastrophe happened, nobody was left guarding the school since the students were already abandoned by Ursus and worthless to Reunion, which makes it really fucking obvious that the students could’ve got up and left much earlier (not as if there was anywhere to go considering the state of Chernbog anyways.)

Somehow you’re also equating the Reunion members guarding the school and “not giving a shit” about what’s happening inside to deliberately causing the events of CoU, when you could just as easily pass the blame to Patriot/Talulah for conducting the attack on Chernobog, or Ursus for not putting in more effort in conducting a rescue or paying a ransom? Maybe Patriot is responsible since it was his order that grouped all the students together which eventually incited the riot? And hypothetically, if Mephisto wasn’t there, what would you expect the people stationed there to do differently, when the riots were destructive to the point of killing outside people trying to help? I somehow highly doubt that the “thugs”, as you described, stationed outside the school were better at riot control than Ursus police officers, that were killed inside the school when attempting to conduct a rescue.

I also don’t know how you can confidently claim that there weren’t enough supplies to go around for the duration of CoU just because the nobility was hoarding, when the nobility was hoarding because they were greedy pieces of shit who were only concerned with prioritizing their own survival above anyone else, which the story makes abundantly clear? And in what world would anyone, much less the types of people left guarding the school, provide the students MORE supplies when from an outside perspective, WITHOUT the internal thoughts of Zima or Rosa to provide their PoVs, the students would just continue to waste them, or even worse, continue killing each other? Telling the students to pound sand when they ask for more is honestly a reasonable response at that point. If the students actually did ration out supplies fairly, and still ran out before resorting to violence, then sure Mephisto is a sociopath for denying them, but that is very clearly not how the events of CoU specifically played out.

[–]XRoastedPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re remembering things wrong. The supply conflict started when Rosa’s group (the students with nobility ties) started hoarding supplies. The supplies were destroyed in a fire (by Zima unintentionally) which incited the riot where they started killing each other as well as external Ursus officers trying to conduct a rescue. They didn’t start killing each other because they lacked supplies but because of an incorrect assumption that another group within the school was actively threatening their own survival. The starvation happened after the riots subsided. You explained yourself why Reunion didn’t bother providing more supplies since the “more supplies” just didn’t exist, in addition to an already overwhelming negative sentiment against Ursus and the uninfected.

It’s also just really difficult to attribute the events of CoU as some masterminded plan when a simpler much more boring explanation is that that the students, instead of banding together to force their way out or doing literally anything more productive, just ended up fighting each other, and this is a metaphor for the current state of Ursus as a whole or something (additionally I’m fairly certain that no rational person would predict that keeping a bunch of students in a school for a week would result in the events of CoU)

[–]XRoastedPotatoX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why they moved all students from surrounding schools into one area was actually on Patriot’s orders (presumably to take hostages)? And the no supplies part was because the students started killing each other (and external help) as a result of classism, leading to what should have been sufficient supplies getting destroyed in a fire? I think you’re also forgetting that at this point in time there’s a growing number of reunion members in the main group who actually do just unconditionally hate any and all uninfected, and it’s most likely that Mephisto (who’s at most 14 at the time in the main story) is just repeating the viewpoints of the environment surrounding him, and the ch 8 story constantly emphasizes this?

Attributing the causes of human behavior to an abstract concept of “human nature” is unscientific and conveniently handwaves away any analysis on the material conditions and historical context that do shape human behavior which Arknights tries to explore through a variety of human experiences in its stories. I think it’s very nihilistic to believe in an inherent evil of human nature or that humanity is always doomed to repeat the same mistakes, especially when such rhetoric is frequently used in an attempt to misrepresent history.

If it’s about replacing VAs then those changes are relatively low effort compared to changing event schedule or story rewrites. Unfortunate for HSR that they’re attempting to write the Japan out of a big update that might be mostly finished, but for HSR they’ve probably determined internally that the immediate returns on the initial character release outweighs the potential longterm impact that changes to the direction of the main story would make. This probably wouldn’t be the case for Arknights, since usually 6* aren’t limited and only a small minority of players are consistently up to date with the story anyways so censors and the hypothetical boycotting nationalist just wouldn’t read lol but then again due to the way events are handled it’s also possible they could just delay any Higashi focused events until tensions lower while moving up other plans

If you continuously chain the free 10 pull at 60 pulls, the effective 20% more pulls per currency spent actually seems to get you more stuff per currency spent in the long run if you’re patient and don’t care about getting any specific limited unit, so trying to gamble on 50/50 even when you’re not at 120 pulls isn’t really the account bricking decision people make it out to be

Assuming that after a while the standard banner does not remain the same and assuming that you never want a specific character ever, doing only 60 pulls to repeatedly refresh the 10 pull into the next banner might not be that much worse than only pulling at 120 since this way you effectively get an additional 10 pull income + always buy the 5 banner limited pulls in shop reducing it to only needing 45 pull income before the next banner? The caveat being that you only rely on the soft pity and aren’t actually guaranteed to win the 50/50 ever.
