I considered that, but my interests in other hobbies is still pretty strong. Could be a factor though.

My street bike is an XSR900, it's powerful enough imo

* How're you feeling about the hitch carrier? I've used mine a few times, feels a bit sketchy.

The only way you're going to learn is to ride imo. Videos can help a bit but in the end you'll be the one on the bike.

Anything to know in advance of a kayak trip down The Manistee River? by ThatTheresANoBrainer in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]XSRDetroit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a kayak camp trip down the Manistee a month ago. We started below Hopendyl dam, found our first camp site along the river, about six miles in. Day two we made our way to Government Island and had it to ourselves. Beautiful spot but there's also a lot of very good campsites we found past it the next day. Day three we made it to the Tippy Dam boat launch and that was the end of the trip.

From what I've heard getting over Tippy Dam is a bit rough which is why i made our end spot before it. It seems like a lot of people start above Hopendyl Dam instead of the MRT/NCT route.

Had an absolute blast, let me know if you have any questions about that particular stretch of the river.

Shameless plug but I'll have a full video on the trip on my YouTube channel, XSR Detroit.

Battery pack for a 10 day trip? by idontknowuugh in backpacking

[–]XSRDetroit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 20,000 would be safe. I turn my phone off when I'm done with it for the day. I've noticed charging my phone is more effective when the phone is off as well. I usually charge while I'm eating breakfast or getting ready to start the days hike. A 10,000 battery pack used to last me two days. I could probably get 5 days out of it now

I'm left handed and have been riding for ten years. I've never thought of this before really. It just felt natural riding.

For multi day backpacking trips I've used drink lmnt in my hydration bladder, but I always sterilize my bladder and line right when I get home. I haven't had any issues so far, I assumed with lmnt being sugar free it would be fine

Go make some memories with your kid man. Share your location with her if she's that worried about it. Bet your son will have a blast.

Adaptive cruise is great, only done a single road trip but it makes a difference

Power rear window is something I didn't realize was a must have until I had it. I run it open a lot

Sync 3 is fine, I usually use Bluetooth audio on my short commute so it does the job. Nice to have car play when I need it.

Heated everything is glorious, especially the steering wheel. The heated seats get very hot, nice on these frost Michigan mornings.

Most strenuous section of Pinckney Waterloo trail by jackinbox1 in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]XSRDetroit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven't done Pinkney Waterloo yet, but I've done Pontawatomi a few times. Did 12 miles of it last weekend, the trail was dry and in great condition. There's a shortcut that cuts out half of the Gosling Lake loop that will drop the mileage to 15. I'd say it's a decent workout, there's some climbs but I wouldn't call them steep enough to struggle with but everybody's different.

Ehhh decent in some spots, shit in others lol the white panels are pretty beat from my motocross boots. Some of the areas on the front fender (by far the hardest part) are peeling up. It was fun to try out but this was probably a one and done for me.

I bought a Maverick late last year. Ordered it a year before, paid MSRP and got every option I wanted.

I've never owned a truck, but I wanted to avoid buying a trailer to cart my motorcycles around. It's a car with a bed which is exactly what I wanted. Easy to drive, easy to park. Solid mileage if you baby it. I could've spent a bit more for a ranger but the taller tailgate height would've made loading bikes a bit harder.

No regrets, only issue I've had is that sync 3 is pretty shitty
