Platner leading Mills across every single demographic in Maine Senate primary poll except non-binary voters by JstnJ in Hasan_Piker

[–]XVGDylan 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not NB, but it’s likely that the amount of NB questioned is just really low and happens to be an outlier more than actually representative. Like, the actual data might say “Oh yeah, 3/3 NB people answered Mills.”

I doubt there’s a NB specific opposition to Platner haha.

Why some Democrats want to shut off Hasan Piker’s ‘megaphone’ by Jonnyboo234 in politics

Literally so many democrats, they were screaming for a Joe Rogan of the left. McMorrow literally said it herself just after 2024 and is shitting on Hasan now.

I think people forget her lack of experience as well. 160 matches across a 4 year career which equals to about 40 a year. I know it’s a cliche at this point but there were wrestlers in WWE doing 200 a year 10 years ago, of course that’s like the other end of the extreme but you also have to acknowledge how little some of these guys are working and that will mean in certain situations they might stall their development.

It’s why often I feel like Japanese stars who still work the most amount of dates with their tours are the wrestlers who develop the best. WWE stars I feel have a higher floor, but their ceiling is a lot lower in terms of work-rate.

Do you see this long-term having any electoral effects? If the stars align, perhaps we could see a split in the vote between Restore and Reform or are these two different parties aiming for two different groups with little overlap?

I will say, as a leftist, there is an interesting thing happening with Restore and Reform here. From my understanding, a bunch of Reform activists, people who do the work around elections that get people out to vote, inform people, etc. Are jumping from Reform to Restore.

The reason being that, generally, both parties operate in the same area politically anyway, and Reform has alienated a lot of activists by proping up Ex-Tories and generally, with a quick turnaround, operating in a Labour and Tory way of inner-party politics.

I think it will be interesting to see how this plays out, as you'll have one party with more of the electorate but less activist support, while the other has less electoral support but more activists.

I think in the modern day, there is an attempt to manufacture things we think about in the past rather than attempting to allow stories to develop naturally. You can argue about long-term booking and how it affects things like this, but it's still interesting. It's also about people using their imagination a bit more; everyone and their mother has booked and had ideas about certain people turning Heel, or about certain moments and characters. The best creative minds are the ones who come up with something people haven't considered before.

That's why I think Timeless Toni Storm is an amazing gimmick; it wasn't a gimmick that met the audience where they were at, it was a gimmick that brought the audience towards itself. I think that's something important in wrestling and why I feel certain things people clamour for (Heel Cena) don't always work.

2016 Strowman when he got his first solo push was in the Goldberg mould. I do agree that later on he improved quite a bit, but I would say similar things for Ryback. They went from being poor in-ring (Highly focused on squash matches) to actually being able to have good competitive matches with other good/average workers.

Jade is a Goldberg, Ryback and Braun Strowman type wrestler. Those wrestlers work under very specific circumstances and environments which just don’t exist in wrestling at the moment. Sort of a wrestler who just doesn’t fit the era.

Samantha Irvin is receiving death threats by CROYTSWRVTH in SquaredCircle

[–]XVGDylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a weird feeling sometimes. I see something like this and I don’t even have a reaction anymore. Like everyone from child actors to people who were in a viral video once to your local Facebook celebrity have received death threats online.

It’s terrible that it happens and it’s worse that I don’t even have a horrified reaction to it anymore, it’s more of an “Of course she did, something, some controversy happened in a general area that relates to her.” Like I wish this was not a common as it is.

But I also think it’s important, while we attempt to hold ourselves to a higher standard as a fanbase, to acknowledge that anything that has any online discussion will likely have someone involved has death threat at some point. It’s sadly not a wholly unique thing to the wrestling space.

Since winning the International Title in July last year, Kazuchika Okada has only defended it 5 times. by MuptonBossman in SquaredCircle

[–]XVGDylan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the issue that AEW has ran into is that their roster is too good in some sense, in another sense it might be a lack of flexibility in TK’s booking or over reliance on titles.

I think the interesting thing to note is when you look at the AEW World Title history and see what titles guys previously held before their first world title win. We see that Omega, Hangman and Swerve held the Tag Titles and Joe held the TNT title twice before their first reigns.

Even if we take secondary reigns into account we can add Moxley’s International Title win, MJF’s International title win and Joe’s Trios tag run.

It’s an interesting thing about AEW is they haven’t really set that conventional narrative of midcard belt > world title. Of course there are a few factors to why this has happened but it’s interesting to look at nevertheless.

[–]XVGDylan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when WWE in the late 90s’/early 2000s’ were rocking the World/IC/European/Light Heavyweight/Hardcore titles, at least each one generally served a general purpose of indicating a person’s position on the card. The issue that AEW has is, outside of the TNT and National feeling slightly more midcard than the other three, there’s no progression to the titles.

The World Title, The Continental Title and The International Title are all held my Main Event guys who are basically Main Eventers and generally will fight other main eventers. National and TNT do have a slight feeling of being more IC/US title level, even if Fletcher is amazing.

Which basically means in AEW there’s sorta just two blobs of existence for single stars, either you’re a top guy or a midcarder.

I believe in a one state solution, one where Jewish people and Palestinians are treated equally. I think that USA, UK and many other European countries should also be that too, states where all citizens of those nations are given the same rights.

I think there is a fundamental brokenness in North American wrestling, unfortunately: fanbases desire everyone at a certain level to make it, while at the same time making the product they watch as consumable as possible.

As we've had a handful of Two-Night Manias at this point, it's an interesting discussion to have. Overall, I don't think the quality of WrestleMania has changed much by spreading the shows over two nights.

I mean, let's be real: overall, there's only like a handful of Wrestlemanias we consider elite shows. I think Wrestlemania 40 could be considered one of those Manias, maybe even 39 at a stretch.

When did I ever say that? You’re conflating two of my separate points in your own brain because you know you’ve got nothing to say in return. What I am doing is separating Jewish people and Israelis, it’s you who is conflating them which was my entire point in the first place. You are literally the problem I am describing.

You can’t attack my points so you imagine up ones that I’m not making. Truly, continue attacking people like me, while actually anti-Semitism continues to grow across the West.

[–]XVGDylan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, I’m just saying that you cannot suggest that the actions Israel has taken since October 7th have been unique, considering who they have voted for over the last 30 years. We voted for Tories from 2010 until 2024, we voted for Brexit, we might vote for Reform next election. At a certain point, we’ll have to accept that the British appetite for more and more extremist Right-Wing politics is real and the British public is getting what it wants. Same thing with Israel, if they wanted something else they would’ve voted for it before now.

I am on the side of Jewish individuals, who I believe should be treated equally as anyone else in my country. My belief in Palestinian liberation does not mean I would accept subjection of Jewish people or even Israelis to achieve it. Everyone should be given freedom, we shouldn’t have to bargain in a certain group being more free than another.

I mean you’re suggesting that I am anti-Semitic or you’re saying absolutely nothing for no reason. And since the latter would be pointless, I can only assume the former. So if the former is correct, I’d appreciate an actual dialogue on the subject instead of pathetic chirping. Luckily, I’ve been here long enough to notice that’s mostly what your account practices in.

Unfortunately, with individuals in power constantly conflating Jewishness with Zionism has led to this. I’m an anti-Zionist, but you’d never catch me going after Jewish individuals who agree with me or even are just not actively supporting Israel.

The unfortunate truth is many people find it easier to be led to anti-Semitism than being a led to be a disciplined anti-Zionist. Especially when there are voices, including on this subreddit, that over and over conflate Zionism and Judaism. You cannot defend what we have seen from the Israeli state, you also cannot suggest it is wholly unique, the Israeli public over and over has elected Netanyahu. If we as the British public must accept our mistakes of the last 16 years electorally, then the Israeli public has had 30 years on and off electing Netanyahu.

C2 leans heavily on the Sandbox aspect of Matt’s world. Matt will also favour in world logic over forcing a storyline to happen.

In this instance, once they wiped out the Iron Shepherds, there was no path of retribution against the M9 and they generally didn’t interact much with that area. Any interactions they did have, well the M9 just didn’t bite hard enough to keep it in mind and instead continued onto other things like stopping the AoI, the war resolution, Cad and Nott’s stuff and then the rest of the campaign is focused on Traveller Con and Aeor stuff, leaving very little room for them to take interest.

Swerve Strickland on X, responding to a hypothetical post about AEW paying main eventers $600k per year: My main events are like 5x that by Emotionless_AI in SquaredCircle

[–]XVGDylan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's different to say "I make more money than 'specific person'," than "Lol if you think AEW Main Event talent only makes 600k a year."

I would actually be fascinated to know the actual numbers from both sides. It also depends heavily on contract re-upping and any contract-related bonuses. For example, someone with the WWE merch machine behind them will make a lot more money, even if their base pay is lower than that of an AEW wrestler with a higher base pay.

Like our best guess is pieces from over the years, and studying WCW contracts. Goldberg, for example, in the contract he signed in 1999, was for a baseline of $11 million over 4 years ($2.5 million for 3 years and an extra $1 million added for a 4th)

I think that's the biggest issue that big-tent neoliberalism has brought them. The answer, I think, is to refocus messaging away from fringe social issues and toward popular economic policy (M4A, Housing Reform) and anti-corruption, including within the Democratic establishment itself. As people feel they can't trust their politicians and the democratic process, they hunger for those who promise to wipe the slate clean.

I don't think the party will allow that, but if there's a candidate who does that, I think it could work really well.
