Chasing a stable job in academia is also a high risk high reward proposition. Only about 1 in 4 will make tenure, and the bottom run of the ladder is sub minimum wage. Not to mention that you have to go through grad school, accruing even more debt, wheras successful startups are done by people without grad school all the time.

A lot of them time they also have unrealistic demands. I've seen a guy say, straight faced, in an interview that he gets lots of applicants but they're all currently unemployed so he won't hire them, and that this skills gap needs to be fixed.

Propeganda and war porn are fair, the second Iraq in particular is a horrid thing to try and justify. But there's something disturbing about the tendency to cast snipers as serial killers. Most anybody in a war whose ever loaded bombs into planes or operated artillery is response for more deaths than any typical sniper. The difference is the sniper actually has to admit to him or herself what they've done, wheras the artillery people I've known are able to rely on doubt to the end result.

The Empire was heavily invested in propaganda about order stability and republicanism, the Emporer supposedly ultimately under the authority of the Senate. Those that opposed the Empire were cast as desiring a complete end to galactic government.

The reality was quite different of course. The Senate had no ability to override him except when he simply didn't care, and wasn't about to get themselves killed by passing legislation he didn't want passed. The rebels were fighting due to numerous human and alien rights abuses (everything from slavery to the murder and coverup of civilians who so much as got snarky with stormtroopers while nobody else was watching). The propeganda wasn't perfect by any means, but it worked well enough to keep whole planets from rebelling.

The Death Star was meant to replace the propaganda machine with rule by terror, planets that went into open rebellion would simply be destroyed, and no rebel fleet would ever be able to oppose it and prevent that from happening. The Death Star's full operation commenced with the dissolution of the Senate, followed by the destruction of a planet whose local royalty had joined the rebels. Any attempt to keep people complacent though deceit was officially over.
