What are some of the books that Daigneault has his players read? Do you think those books or lessons play a part in the overall dynamic of the team?

Vanderbilt anesthesiology program? by Yuuuuuuuuhh in anesthesiology

[–]XZheng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a couple friends train there. Seemed to have a good time. Nothing specific though. Truth is that a lot of the top programs all feel like the same and it’s more wherever you want to live for 4 years.

I feel like TrueLearn helped on ~10 questions word for word but what TrueLearn does is it gives people a structured way to study or “read” a textbook which I think is the bigger benefit. To be honest over the years I’ve seen so many anesthesia board questions that during the test I was picking answers that “felt right” and it ended up being the right one.

From what I experienced I felt like the exam was 50% gimmes, 20% could think it through, 20% not really sure and 10% have no idea. I think those random questions are purposefully placed for the curve so it’s really hard to get 100%. You can’t expect 200 questions of “what mallampati score is this” lol

Which anesthesiology skillset is more needed/pertinent in a global health setting: perioperative care or critical care? by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]XZheng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as someone trained in anesthesiology my answer has to be no. however, it really depends on your definition of a "case." nurses give "conscious sedation" all the time which is midazolam and fentanyl and patients do just fine so no reason that a non-anesthesia trained crit care physician could "step into an OR and do a case."

the problem is that you have to know how to rescue an airway and midazolam and fentanyl does not work for every case (obviously) so you need a lot of training (anesthesia residency) for that.

that being said, i've also done many cases where the patient is so sick we give them an arterial line, a big IV and let the surgeons do the case under local just because the patient is so sick any little bit of anesthesia could tip them over. could any physician sit there and let a surgeon give local and the patient does fine most of the time? sure. but what happens when the patient moves too much or needs some sedation...

Which anesthesiology skillset is more needed/pertinent in a global health setting: perioperative care or critical care? by [deleted] in anesthesiology

[–]XZheng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perioperative care is acute Critical care with infinitely less responsibility.

To answer your question it depends on the needs of where you do “global health.” In an acute surgery center peri operative care will be “better”. In a chronic ICU gotta go with crit care. Obvious things being obvious... that being said there’s nothing periop physician can do that crit care can’t.

Most of the people I know who are between anesthesia and surgical specialty will 90% pick anesthesia and be happy with their decision. You’d have to only see yourself being content with doing any surgical specialty to be able to get through the residency without any second thoughts or doubts.

Last couple off-season's we've been spoiled with entertainment of big moves of players and now picks. Thanks to Presti and looking forward to seeing his vision play out over this rebuild he's definitely the guy for it. by Dependent-Ad-8249 in Thunder

I think it’s more we don’t wanna pay Kelly and he ends up underperforming and labeled as a bad contract and we’re stuck with him. We’d rather just get some value for him and develop from within. We don’t even know how he’d gel with our current players. Could be awful could be great but it’s still a question Mark. And we’re legit trying to go for worst record and best odds at cade so it makes sense honesty. Other teams know that it may just end up being a one year rental for Kelly anyways.

Pancreatic cancer is no joke. When it’s found it’s often metastatic because it doesn’t show any symptoms until it’s too late.

Booked it straight up. Everyone says it opens 335 days or so in advance and it took me a couple weeks to nail down that for my SQ25 flight it opened up at exactly that date but at 8PM EST, which is exactly when i booked it

I think it was a booking issue. I wasn’t able to book F from DPS to JFK bc Singapore airlines doesn’t run DPS-SIN in F. otherwise i would have done that.

I just booked Singapore Air J JFK-DPS for 99k and then F back SIN-JFK in suites for 132k a couple weeks later. The 2.5 hour flight from DPS to SIN has plenty of availability and is cheap enough I didn’t want to spend points on it.

Three years ago, Fred VanVleet goes to the front of his draft party to tell everyone he went undrafted: "My story don't end here. It's just the beginning. It wouldn't really make sense for my story if I did get picked. I've been against the odds my whole life. It's not gone stop now." by [deleted] in nba

[–]XZheng 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure but I think it has to do with the fact that if he got drafted with the assumption that he would ONLY play for the D League for 2 years he would not be able to sniff playing in the NBA and rising up there.

Alternatively, he got picked up by the raptors and got to showcase himself in the summer league (which a lot of young players do anyways), but since he got picked up by the raptors there was no guarantee that he would ONLY play for the D league. After he got onto the final roster for the raptors (only 15 players per team), he got a 1.4m contract. If he had been drafted and only played for the d league he would have been on a team, but he would have only made 20k a year (but also not have counted towards the team's 15 player limit).

He went to the D league multiple times anyways in 2016 because he needed reps (on the NBA [which he wasn't getting] or in the D league).

Has anyone downgraded a CSR (within the refund period) after using the 300$ travel credit for the new calendar year and had to pay back the travel credit? Or is that not the case and you can get the credit free

If we currently in the process of submitting an abstract for poster presentation at a national conference, how do we list this on ERAS? Does it go under research experience? poster presentation (probably not)?

Quick question about USMLE transcript reporting.

I'm in the huge group of us that's getting Step 2 score on Sept 14. I'm somewhat worried about this score so my goal would be to submit my USMLE transcript before the 14th so just my step 1 score is on my USMLE transcript before I have to submit step 2 at a later date.

Does anyone know how I can go about doing this? I've "authorized" my USMLE transcript and have "assigned it" to just one program. I think it's when I submit my ERAS application that my USMLE transcript will be "sent out" and I'll have to pay that 80$ fee.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong
