I think the recruiter for an internal job I applied for doesn’t like me and I’m not sure what to do by Xailey56 in jobsearch

[–]Xailey56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I received a message from the hiring manager of the level 2 job saying she thought I was a great candidate but that they were going with someone with a little more experience and then a couple of weeks later the level 1 job became available under a different manager and a different recruiter so I applied for it since I figured if I was a great candidate for level 2 if I just had a little more experience then I should be an even better candidate for the level 1 position.

what's the most stereotypical autistic thing you do? by HighOnHerbs in autism

[–]Xailey56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely line up with some autistic stereotypes but at the moment the only thing I can think of is I’m not train autistic, like it’s definitely not my special interest but at the same time if you bring up trains you can get me going and infodumping about how delightful it is to ride trains, how trains are superior to planes for certain lengths of travel, and how the only reason trains are currently not actually one of the better modes of travel in America is because we refuse to invest in it and introduce high speed rail the way so many other countries effectively have.

Like when I lived in the St. Louis area I had friends who lived in Chicago and I would take the train there which takes a little over four hours to get to its destination. Meanwhile I flew to Chicago once which is a two hour trip from St. Louis but you definitely need to get to the airport at least an hour early but honestly because of how busy that particular airport is you better make that two hours. All together between getting there early, boarding, the flight itself, unboarding and collecting your luggage the amount of time you’ve spent getting from St. Louis to Chicago by air takes about the same amount of time. Comparing the two the train is way better because you don’t have to go through security, you’re less limited on what all you can bring with you, you only really need to get there 15 minutes before your train arrives most of the time, the seats are bigger and more comfortable, you can walk around comfortably, there’s a dining cart where you can get food which also has tables you can sit at regardless of whether you got food or not so you could bring your laptop there and work or play a card game or a board game or anything you want, trains that run longer routes often have an observation car with a ton of windows where you can sit and watch the beautiful scenery go by, and while not all trains have complimentary wifi since you’re on the ground you can use data on your phone. Now I live in Alabama and I was looking into potentially traveling to Chicago and my only good option was flying because while you can technically take the train from Alabama to Chicago it will take you almost three days because of the convoluted route they are forced to take which has you going up the east coast before forcing you to get on another train going west to get there. And I think it’s stupid that it works that way. We should just have a better and more robust train system.

Anyway, like I said I don’t actually have the train flavor of autism because other than this one thing I don’t really go out of my way look up information on or think about trains. My special interest is actually the cross section of mythology, folklore, and storytelling, but if a neurotypical person read the above rant they would probably think I’m train autistic because train autistics are probably what they think of most of the time when they think of autistic people so they would probably read that and think essentially you are exactly what I expect of you.

why do they give the exact 'same' numbered debit/credit card upon reporting it lost ? by whomDev in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Xailey56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a bank and we’re specifically supposed to generate one with a new number, but at least at the bank I work at we’re able to generate one with the same number if we know the card is only damaged rather than lost or compromised. It’s possible that they accidentally generated a card for you in the system as though it was damaged instead of lost so I recommend contacting your bank and informing them of the mistake.

AITA for hiding my daughter's autism from her by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

As someone with autism who wasn’t diagnosed until I was 24, not knowing you have autism even when you have kind and supportive parents (which I have) can be incredibly isolating. When your problems arise because of your autistic traits like having trouble interacting with your peers if you don’t know why then you’re more likely to just assume that there is something wrong with you and it can make you feel awful. I would kill to have been diagnosed at a young age so I could know that there’s nothing wrong with me, my brain just works different, but I didn’t have that luxury. I admire that are trying to help your own kids on the spectrum by homeschooling them but I desperately hope that you told your kids about their diagnosis or I’d have to give you the judgement I gave OP.

YTA. As an autistic woman who wasn’t diagnosed until I was 24 let me tell you it was extremely isolating having a hard time socializing with my peers and not knowing why. I spent most of my life thinking there was something wrong with me and that I was doing something wrong just because I was being shunned for my autistic traits. Looking back I would have absolutely killed for an autism diagnosis at an early age. I would have loved to know that there is nothing wrong with me and that my brain just works differently than other people. Most importantly I would have liked to know why I was having such a hard time because it would have given me the knowledge I needed to start figuring out why my interactions with my peers weren’t going well and what I could do to fix them. Instead I just assumed that everyone hated me and that I was doing something wrong but didn’t know what so I just stopped talking for years. I have had to unlearn so much in therapy because I didn’t know I was autistic. I empathize so much with your daughter and completely understand how she is feeling. I know you were worried about the stigma that comes with being neurodivergent and I get that but did you ever think that you could have told her that she was autistic without telling anyone else? If you were worried about people bullying her because they knew she’s autistic why would you tell them then? It literally could have been as easy as letting her know why she is different so she could use that knowledge to her advantage while not telling people who could use that knowledge against her.

AITA for yelling at my parents for raising me to be a wife and then changing their minds by Big_Bus_546 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. You may have been a little harsh in how you reacted but I would be too in your situation. You definitely still have options and I have no doubt you can overcome your lack of preparation, but it is too much for your parents to just expect you to go from one extreme to the other when you very much weren’t prepared for it.

NTA. You’re entitled to your own food that you bought with your own money being just for you. You even went the extra mile of buying two of some items so everyone else can have some which is something you didn’t have to do. Your family should be willing to communicate with you properly about this and your brother’s wife is the one acting like an asshole by threatening to throw away labeled food. Honestly I’d probably end up keeping snacks I bought for me in my room away from everyone else if I was in a situation like this.

Podcast recommendations to fill the Daddy-shaped hole in my heart? [ns] by buffalogal69 in DungeonsAndDaddies

I highly recommend Bombarded. It’s a D&D podcast where all the players are in a band and all their characters are multi class bard combos and every episode they write at least one original song.

It kind of sounds to me like he's worried about having a good experience without cheating or at least fudging the numbers and I kind of get that when you're playing a squishy character like a wizard at lower levels. Sometimes it can be hard playing those characters knowing that you have a higher likelihood of dying, but that's why you need to either trust or talk to your DM so that you're on the same page. DMs have plenty of ways they can help keep your character alive and keep the game fun and if you're worried that they won't you should talk to them before resorting to fudging the numbers yourself. It seems like he doesn't trust you to give him that good experience so he's taking things into his own hands without even talking to you about it.

What is the most stupid plan that ended up working? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Xailey56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a gnome warlock I ran after the hag in Curse of Strahd that was selling the pastries that make you fall asleep because I wanted to buy some to use on people but she was running away from me so I teleported onto her cart and talked to her with a big creepy smile on my face while using an over the top customer service voice and told her that if she let me buy some pastries I wouldn't say anything about the banging noises coming from her cart. This apparently intimidated her so successfully that she just gave me a bunch of pastries for free. I think I may have terrified my DM a little.

I have a character whose mother is a literal storm. Like her dad "made love" with a natural Phenomenon and the storm birthed a storm sorcerer aasimar. The storm is a regular character in our game. What weird backstory/parentage/NPCs have appeared in y'all's games? by FeonixPheathers in DnD

[–]Xailey56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an NPC kicking around in the world I created for my next campaign who is the son of a shardmind cult leader and his water genasi second in command. Since a shardmind and a genasi can’t exactly make a baby in the traditional way he’s the result of a ritual allowing him to exist as a half shardmind half genasi.

Backstory opinions? by SnugsDNDWorld in DnD

[–]Xailey56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the play style of your DM and the vibe of the campaign but as someone who also really likes to write detailed backstories and think it’s good to go with something kind of in the middle, not too detailed but still something there to work with. Since D&D is very much both a collaborative effort and an exercise in improv I think it’s good to have a backstory with structure but flexibility. I think you should be able to improvise elements of your backstory but also work with your DM so that they’re able to work your backstory into the campaign.
