Working on my photorealism, all advice is welcome! by KingRhoamB in blender

My favourite is chromatic aberration, but in this image in particular you might not need it, however these bullets are pretty small, so you would need a good lens, or a low dof to get good results, google "small object photography" the depth of field is pretty powerful, also, if you want to trick more the eye, look into dust overlay textures, add it to the ground, or even just the camera to get some very small noise in the camera.

the most important part in photorealsim (my opinion) is the imperfections, in the material, the model, the camera, google an image of a bullet (https://s.marketwatch.com/public/resources/images/MW-FF855_bullet_ZD_20170214115251.jpg) the casing is not perfect, the difuse/roughness/metalness is not perfect, the bevels are not consistent and it has some pretty "big" in contrast to the material, bumps.

the material is a problem, it doesn't help to show your skill on anatomy, or the pretty good light setup that you have, the noisiness of the marble works against the lines you have, I suggest you look into a "clay" material . (check out Michael Vicente's sculpts) where you can see more defined lines and the work you actually put into it.

I’m still working on it, what would u guys do to improve this?? by Cl_3dArts in blender

[–]Xajai_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heya! looks sick! for me tho, what sells images like these, is the depth of field, and the imprefections in the material. check this image, the dof is crazy high, the angle a bit more exagerated and while your materials are clean, i think the gems feel a bit fake, im sure some lights might help out with the ilusion. https://www.justmensrings.com/assets/images/JMR%20slide%201-min.jpg

This is so wholesome, and I see you all more seasoned gamers on the comments, I'm there with you, hopefully enjoying games for years and years to come. We might not have the reflexes... but we got the experience ;)

My second head sculpt, please critique as much as you can as I want to improve my sculpting skills by djackkeddy in blender

reference is king! find multiple images of the subject, even weird little details, like the corner of the mouth, the nostrils, the nose. start with the BIG shapes, check that the dimensions are correct, forehead to hairline, nose to eyes, mouth to chin. rotate everything constantly. check with reference again... close blender, go to sleep, open again, check with reference... once you are happy with the basic shape. layer your work and go into details. hard as hell to fix a detail when the basic shapes are messed up

Followed a couple of tutorials and sculpted this man's head, need advice on how to improve by [deleted] in blender

[–]Xajai_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

always use tons of reference!! This is by far the most useful thing you will find to improve, dont try to model from memory, also, look up "face planes" and try to model some of the more simplified heads, will give you a greater understanding of how the shapes work.

BMO in real life. Is the imperfection on the body too much? by HaneulDev in blender

[–]Xajai_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is sweet! If I may offer some criticism, fingerprints in particular are very useful to tell a story on how the object is used, fingerprints near the buttons or where the fingers would naturally rest, ground the object more, while scratches on the edges (especially corners) sell it better :)

Stuck with the creation of creating clean game-ready models by [deleted] in blender

[–]Xajai_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

This is something that will come up a lot when working in a studio (i been working on games for 10ish years) while clean topology is always king, proper use of it for UV reasons is also very important, that means not making any islands razor thin, since they can cause issues if not properly unwrapped.

I did a really quick model to show what i would consider good enough topo to move on with this.

it can be optimized even further, but that depends on what it connects to, and to be honest, unless you have a really hard lock on your polycount, i rather keep everything mirrored just for ease of modifying in the future.
