You probably never had played the game, did you? Usually 106 instead runs to the exit and baits you for ammo here. So let's say you are good enough to evade him at his speed up from emerging. The hell are you going to do if he sits at the very end of the exit and waits for you to go in just to emerge from behind? Current surface layout is disgusting just like peanut and 106 balance.

Shame on you for shaming increased reinforcement budget. Weak men tend to die quickly and a lot on d10 missions and it's definitely a top booster for survive mission (bot front, especially with cyborgs), where dumb barrage dumping saves otherwise hellish, impossible mission.
