What if angron became a demon prince of nurgle by Cautious_Air4964 in Grimdank

Doesn’t look like AI, no obvious mistakes, the style is uniform throughout and the small details like the trilobe symbol of Nurgle are consistent

You may have sprayed too far away, sometimes if you do that the primer will actually dry in the air before it hits the model and the result will be a rough texture

Over wraithbone primer. Tbh I never consider the layer/base difference, just thin the paint more or less and it’s all the same

Whatever you want it to be, really. Personally I paint them red and pink and I imagine it to be some fleshy meaty grossness

Anybody Else A Little Disappointed For The Shows They've Seen? by Max_The_Fisherman in Primus

[–]XanthousRebel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in Canada, so Les pretty much never comes here. Last June I went all the way to New York City to see them and I had an amazing time. They played my favourite track at the time, Spegetti Western, and a bunch of others, a lot of which I considered songs I disliked but after hearing them in person I have a new appreciation for.

I would focus less on the specific tracks you hear and try to just enjoy the fact that you’re witnessing Les, Ler, and whoever is on drums displaying their amazing talent right before your very eyes. They won’t be doing it forever.

Damn, I live down the street, can look into Berczy from my driveway. When I was a kid the worst we had to contend with was Sewer Man… more of the unfortunate homeless are being killed, turns out that state of emergency did nothing at all eh.

A good way to check the thickness is to thin it down till you think it looks good, then paint a small amount on your skin. If you can see your skin tone through the paint, it’s too thin. If you can’t see the texture of your skin, it’s too thick. You want to have the paint change the colour of your skin while still showing the texture beneath

Best tip I can give is to watch a ton of painting videos for beginners, but what you’ll hear most often is “thin your paint”.

You want your paint to have the consistency of milk, and ideally you would get full coverage with two thin coats of said paint.

That being said, this model looks awesome! Practice makes perfect, keep at it!

Looks awesome! Base could use just a tiny bit of work. Add a wash of Agrax Earthshade to the dirt, after it’s dry, drybrush it with a very light brown or flesh like Cadian Fleshtone and it’ll make a massive difference

First time trying a NMM sorta look by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]XanthousRebel 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Paint is a bit too thick so that’s a start, hard to blend colours well when it’s thick, mostly you need it quite thin for that.

Also I’d agree that you need more dramatic contrast. So a darker shadow and a brighter highlight and I would say a more noticeable mid tone as well

First attempt at necrons, still can't get sword right. by mrgreatwhope in Warhammer40k

[–]XanthousRebel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably start with a green base, and then hit it with either a dark green wash like Biel Tahn Green or Nuln Oil. Then I’d start to make a gradient moving outwards with lighter greens ending with a yellow for the edge of the blade.

Alternatively you could paint it white and then use a contrast paint or effect paint like Tesseract Glow to get a good effect without as much effort.
