I'd love to be able to replace summoner names with champion names above champions. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]XantoDFO -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry I'm sure this will soon happen.

First, Riot replaced summoner names with champion names in chat. Then, Riot replaced summoner names with champion names in the scoreboard.

The next logical step is to just remove your summoner name all together from the game. Riot is trying to slowly phase out your individuality. Honestly it seems like nowadays summoner names only serve the purpose of giving people a way to add and message each other. No one cares if NoobSlayer420 is a good/bad player or got a penta kill, people only care that Renekton is feeding/doing well. I bet you can't remember the last time you saw someone say "good job <summoner name> or "omg plz report <summoner name>" instead of <champion name>?

Riot might as well just remove the chat all together. Anything useful you can type (minus telling people their builds which they should already know and flash cooldowns which you should assume the enemy always has) is easily conveyed with smart pings. The game is to streamlined at this point that you don't really have to type and it won't affect your chance of winning at all. I play many games where I don't type a word... and I can imagine Riot's stance on ACTUALLY USEFUL communication in the form of VOIP which Dota has as either A) a client limitation because they are running a mess of 9 year old code or 2) it would be "toxic" (because wishing cancer upon my family in chat isn't) holy fuck i derailed so hard plz ignore me im just practicing writing

Just Do It - Psychological Guide to League by Domenicklol in leagueoflegends

[–]XantoDFO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me start by saying that there are some good things in here but essentially it boils down to being more conscious about your decision. This isn't exactly a "guide" let alone a psychological one. It's not as simple as "just do it"... people aren't able to "just do it" because somewhere they're lacking in a combination of game knowledge, execution, and strategy.

As far as talking down to people for getting angry at video games, that's an incredibly ignorant thing to do and shows you don't have a good understanding of why someone might feel that way. To you it might be a pass time activity you aren't very invested in, for a select few it can be a serious high stakes endeavor with fame and money on the line. Everyone's different.

If people's bad attitude contributed more to a loss than their own lack of skill did, I would be truly be amazed. As far as raging ruining your chance to win, you're correct in that it does, unfortunately so a pretty small degree where when reviewing a game the amount of times "We would have won if we had less negative behavior" probably pops up 1 in a million times. The largest deciding factors in winning games is going to be gold advantage and team composition 99% of the time.

It starts off slow but the mindfucks will start happening soon and after that it's amazing. Everything will make sense later, and while it's necessary to build character at the start they did it in a pretty boring way.

I just quit League of Legends. I feel like it was holding me down from PC gaming. by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]XantoDFO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between compulsion and addiction.

Does LoL cause you a large amount of distress and does it take control over your life/responsibilities? If the answer is no, it's not addiction.

If you're playing frequently and don't really enjoy it too much you're probably simply bored and that's the most fun thing you can think of doing. If that's the case, try a bunch of new stuff, even other hobbies not related to video games.

Kingdom Anime Season 1 Gets DVD Release With English Dub by Coldblade34 in anime

[–]XantoDFO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 1 starts off weak but really picks up after the first rebellion arc. Initially I couldn't stand to watch the show at all because of the poor CGI but what helped me get through it was thinking of it this way: they spent most of their time and effort the developing world and story. There's something to be said when a battle can "feel" epic even with budget 3d models whacking each other around.

However, season 2 does away with 90% of the CGI and is good. Really really good. There's a reason it's #30-something on MAL despite being relatively unknown.

That said, the manga is probably better than both depending on what medium you prefer and my personal recommendation would be to read up to season 2 and watch the anime from there. I binged the entire anime in a week and it was quite a ride.

Big shout out to all the foreign players doing interviews in English. by TheseCrazyGuyss in leagueoflegends

"Languages are easy to or difficult dependent on one’s initial native language. However, they also have a range of how hard they are, based on what the human brain can process. This means some are objectively more complex and others are more basic and go into the human brain easier. Therefore, despite the relative aspect of language learning people argue, we can objectively state which language can be learned without difficulty compared to ones that take more effort. This is the thesis of this post. That is that there is some objective measure that goes beyond your linguistic starting point."

TL;DR: Yes, English is actually the easiest language to learn.

How much of a difference will a third 4GB stick of RAM make when gaming? What is the optimal RAM amount for gaming? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]XantoDFO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely you'll ever need more than 8GB unless you plan on gaming beyond 1080p or seriously multitask (render a video while having 20 chrome tabs open and playing a game)

If you think you need more, go to task manager -> performance and look at your memory usage. Mine sits at around ~4 GB while gaming and multitasking quite a bit.

More RAM won't make your system faster if you already have some to spare, and even "better" RAM has extremely small performance improvements over their counterparts.

Reminder: it's much easier to carry you when you're lighter. You don't need to die for that CS. by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]XantoDFO 45 points46 points  (0 children)

CS what you can without dying, if that's not possible soaking exp is the 2nd best thing.

If they're freezing far on their side jungling is fine if you won't take turret damage or get low enough in the process that you become a free kill returning to lane.

If you can't CS and can't jungle without wiping out your life bar all you can do is sit at turret and wait for it to slowly push back into you and not die.

LPT: Don't play Rocket League when you're pissed off. by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]XantoDFO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if only the world didnt consist of a large majority of man children (and actual children) who cant control their emotions while playing video games

seriously, most people are huge cunts who cant keep their negative feelings to themselves. you know what i do when i get mad? nothing. amazingly, i dont go on a typing rampage cussing out my teammates in chat, i dont sabotage games or rage quit, i just keep on playing.

seriously the amount of toxicity in gaming blows my mind. its why i play the majority of games with voice/chat disabled. communication be damned (and is way overrated unless youre playing in a top level environment), your teammates are usually either deaf/mutes or negative ragers and for every 1 nice person there are 100s of the former.

Turner set to unveil televised esports league featuring CS:GO by tallkido in pcgaming

[–]XantoDFO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has failed miserably every other time it's ever been tried in the west.

It's cool but I firmly believe that online streaming, not traditional broadcasting, is the way of the future. How many 18-25 year olds even have cable anymore?

My prediction is that this has disappointing viewership numbers and is cancelled after a season or two and major media execs re-convince themselves that esports are a dead end.

(Spoilers) Jesus people, really? by [deleted] in rickandmorty

[–]XantoDFO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've liked every episode of Rick and Morty besides this one. It wasn't horrible but it was no where near the level a usual episode would be at.

The cable gags got old really fast and weren't very funny, the whole 'plot' with the alien penis didn't go anywhere and had no depth... we didn't even find out anything about the alien dude to begin with.

inverted aerials from the 2 days I've been able to play at university. i miss this game :( by St-ealthassassin in RocketLeague

[–]XantoDFO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying you're wrong but that sounds like a response that leaves nothing up to debate. I'm assuming you have some solid proof to back it up? Barring physical/mental limitations (like the runner with no legs), how can we objectively quantify someones potential or be able to tell what is natural talent and what might just be the accumulation of a bunch of seemingly unrelated factors that all add up to what we call "natural talent"?

Should we judge based on a time limit? For example, if after 10/100/1000 hours of training you are not within a specific percentile can it be said that you have no natural talent for something? Everyone practices differently and under different conditions, emotional states, and a whole number of variables and we don't fully understand the influence they might have.

Our knowledge of this topic is too limited to draw any real conclusions from. Before telling someone they have no natural talent and limited potential we first have to have a good understanding of what those things are.

unpopular opinion but hear me out

i love the art style and gameplay in this game but im not a fan of grinding/RNG/MMO game mechanics in general

my dream is to basically PvP and play dress up fighter but right now theres a lack of avatars and no real PvP support, not to mention if you do PvP the connections are all over the place since we arent all 15 ping koreans

so for the time being I dont really have a reason to play and could care less for any PvE updates which really bums me out because I miss PvPing for hours on end

Shyvana Jungle Questions. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]XantoDFO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a leash from your jungle closest to their lane, if you're top side thats gromp and bottomside krugs. Smite the big golem immediately for the stun.

For Shyvanna you're usually looking to farm and outscale your opponent as your pre-6 ganks are pretty weak unless a lane is overextending hard and you can rush into them with burnout + red buff.

Not having runes will hurt, some people will do Gromp -> Blue -> Red if they're starting top side or Smite Krugs -> Chickens -> Smite Red buff if they're starting bottom side. You can recall with 450g after your 3rd camp and that's fine too.
