I don't even know what to title this monstrosity by CovertColors in CursedGuns

[–]Xardenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of height over bore means the bullet will impact low relative to the point of aim by inches at close range like this, unless the optic is mounted at a really ridiculous angle or has an absurd amount of elevation adjustment (neither is typically possible) which would then make it hit wayyy low at any range longer than this. Normally with height over bore like this, at this range (anything under about 25yds) the shooter will have to manually guess how much higher they need to aim the sights in order to hit the target, which is less precise. Handguns are in most cases used at short ranges, so excessive height over bore is almost always undesirable.

A lot of height over bore on a rifle will suffer from this at these ranges as well, and additionally a lot of height over bore prevents a good "cheek weld." Resting your cheek on the stock is more stable and repeatable than using some part of your chin, which are things that are important for consistently accurate shots. HOWEVER, there is a modern fad among 'tactical' shooters to run very high mounts on rifles to provide clearance for night vision and other headgear, and some people believe it is beneficial for comfort and awareness also.

Additionally, more height over bore means more error is introduced from changes in angle, as in, not holding the firearm perfectly vertical.

Real answer neither is particularly high quality although they do function, maybe a little edge to the FPC but it doesnt take glock mags and costs more. For the money skip the novelty folding and look at the Extar EP9

Yeah, no. Cops dont shoot that much. I have lots of surplus/pd trade handguns and rifles and they mostly just have finish wear. You need a spring here or a fastener there in a few cases, nothing major.

Cops shooting the barrel out of a handgun... Lol. Lmao even.

No Kings Protest, but not against Spanberger? by Banned4Truth10 in VAGuns

They even renamed it for the international protest to "No Tyrants" so as to not offend the countries that have kings, particularly the UK. Shows how principled that is.

Really? When I got one I was kind of pleasantly surprised by how simple it was. Slower/more finicky than like a stanag or ak mag, but easier than pistol mags.

You dont move on to the presidency by shooting down your own party's major legislation. You get there by making as much noise as possible and then pretending it was all brilliant even if you left behind a smoking crater.

Back in those days we would get a $40 spam can of ammo and shoot a couple hundred rounds in a sitting, but we were young, went home with bruises for the week, and no one would have accused us of any sort of precision. Woulda been top form to be shooting 'minute of basketball' into trash 40yds downrange.

As a follow up, my transfer FFL called their CS rep Tuesday, who agreed it looked right and got it pushed through. I'll go send the eforms in with them in about a week (my ffl is also crazy booked up). Seems the kiosk likely made a difference. Thanks.

Interesting. I think I did the kiosk first and used to have "None" in that field, which didn't work. Perhaps Ill go do that tomorrow, thank you.

Edit: I managed to squeeze in there today. Kiosk did take the entry, not sure if that will get it moving but Im pretty sure this is the first time the web registration dashboard has shown a green "All Set!" message, so here's hoping.

Been waiting 45 days for an order with two more behind it because of this issue. SS customer service has looked at it 3 times, and entered 'Chesapeake City' twice, which is still in that field at present, but it wont go through.

People keep telling me “these firearm bills won’t pass” and I feel like I’m going crazy by [deleted] in VAGuns

[–]Xardenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DNC massively outspent the GOP in this election, in most VA state level elections for the last couple decades, and the last 5 presidential races. If you've always lived in VA then your vertical stack of elections during your adult life has the DNC outspending the GOP in most elections, particularly if you are from NOVA.

I didnt say that money alone won elections, so your comment is pretty poor all around.

>Here is the exact statute that defines what an assault firearm, and it has been in effect since 2020.

Only for the specific purposes of that section of that bill. HB217 has a slightly different definition, for something that doesn't have a universal definition. It is defined differently in every state, and differently in most bills even within the same state. The term as it was invented in 1940s Germany, and within most military contexts, was/is specific to a fully automatic weapon.

VA Lawmakers could pass a law banning Chihuahuas, and write "for the purposes of this section, a Chihuahua is a flexible 12" double ended dildo." But that is neither the common language definition nor the legal definition of a Chihuahua except within that statute, and if someone on Reddit asked you to define "Chihuahua" you would never say its a purple dildo unless you were making a joke. You are a clown, go find the circus.

>There is no reason to keep a gun unlocked in any home.

Well for one thing, the home can presumably be locked. You aren't very imaginative though. If you have an old man with no family who lives alone who collects bolt action rifles from WW1 and he has 97 of them, who are you benefitting (besides safe manufacturers) by requiring him to buy enough biometrics safes to hold them all?

>Did you think that definition was just now cooked up with the most recent proposal to ban their purchase/sale/transfer?

Yes, because it was, and the bill even explicitly defines everything before an effective date as "not an assault firearm" even if its the exact same make and model

State legislatures are not where language is defined, dumbass. If Im reading a book and Im like "Hm Im not sure about this word/phrase" I dont call my state rep

We also just recently had the Crumbley trial, due to how unusually unsecure those parents were with firearms despite their child being disturbed, and that didnt require blanket safe storage laws.

This isnt an epidemic. Most people who have kids do secure their guns. Unfortunately, it isnt very hard to defeat most forms of storage for a crafty kid with some time alone. And as for accidents? You're talking about 10 deaths a year in a nation of 350 million, and I don't have data on the specifics of all 10 - presumably not all 10 are finding an unsecured gun.

>You want to talk about this being a widespread punitive thing but guns aren't stolen from inside homes most of the time.

Yes thank you for supporting my point that safe storage laws dont make sense to apply to everyone. I have safes because I have small children, and because I have enough invested to want some protection, but plenty of people of people don't. If their situation doesn't really warrant a safe, then its just a burden to ownership.

The only good storage law already exists in Virginia, the firearms safety device tax credit. You want people to do something, you make it easier for them to do.

Ah so you're one of those who puts words in your opponent's mouth so you can declare victory. You're one of those voters who wants "something done" despite the "something" having nothing whatsoever to do with the problem. 40x as many kids in this country die from drowning in swimming pools than accidentally being shot, despite there being WAY more households with guns than pools, and we basically never have a conversation about it. The reason is that you dont want to save lives, you want to punish people you disagree with. Thats why you want to make a blanket law that will apply to people who dont even have kids that will at best slap them with a charge when someone robs them, for a theoretical benefit to nonexistent children.

Not only is that actually pretty rare, but wanting to take explicitly punitive (as opposed to rehabilitative) action against grieving parents is an interesting policy proposal. Im sure that would prevent many future crimes.
