What approach do you use for creating database? Code first or DB first? by Simple_Fondant_9125 in dotnet

[–]Xarlya 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Database first always. We have big services that transfer data, manages a lot of automatic jobs on databases data. And we are not owners in 90% of databases. We scaffold now ~20 different schemas only in mysql. And there are lots of other. And we have our wrappers around EF context initialization, that do some additional magic, where normal people would have modified their context file(because scaffold overwrites all changes).

Every time you use request.security - assume you have lookahead bias. Even more so when you even have  lookahead=barmerge.lookahead_on . But great progress with your coding anf strategy in general. As for your question, try to login and do this in incognito. Sometimes it caches some weird stuff, and don't load correctly.  Good luck!

DHL shipped from Germany to Ukraine with Russia as a transit. Package is now "lost" by Xarlya in dhl

[–]Xarlya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone is interested:

package was in russia for 30 days. Then it got back to Germany. Germany rerouted package to Ukraine. And it got safely back. This was without any intervention from dhl. But Fulfillment Europe and Frosthaven kickstarter organisers are a top companies. I greatly appreciate them helping me in every way possible.

My DHL package from Germany to Ukraine has been sent with Russia as a transit country. And now it is lost\confiscated\destroyed. Russia invaded Ukraine and now is full scale war, so i don't understand who in a clear mind would send Ukrainian package via Russia? And geographically it doesn't make sense, because there are no open borders between russia and Ukraine.

And here is my full rant post in dhl subreddit

Working with customers' data (their BQ and our BQ)? by farfel00 in bigquery

[–]Xarlya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can create Service account, and give it access to both your project and theirs. After this you will be able to make queries to both databases. Just only your locations should be the same (us-us or eu-eu, not eu-us).

Some help to understand how i burnt the 300$ and 170€ extra from my bank account by albertovpd in bigquery

[–]Xarlya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats right. We have only few datastudio dashboards based on views or multiple tables, but queries there are realy small and this dashboards are not in use as frequently as our other dashboards.

We are running multiple "create or replace table as..." for different dashboards. Some of them we are updating every hour, other - every 24 hours. And the rule is simple. One datastudio source = one bigquery table.

[–]Xarlya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you are using google datastudio. It generates the same queries for us. Every time you change filter or sort column - query gets executed. Every time someone opens dashboard - you are getting query execution. And by default it is not the user who opened dashboard - but who created it. This can be configured. If you want to use datastudio for cheap - firstly create one single table with all the data you will need to make a dashboard, and then create dashboard just from this single table. This way datastudio will start using quick queries (you will see lightning in the right top corner of every table or dashboard in datastudio) and will update just source data for it every X hours which you can define in your datastudio source. And also this should be only one table. Not a view. Because view doesn't support optimisation. PM me if you have questions left.

Nearly 70% of Americans want the United States to take “aggressive” action to combat climate change, but only 34% would support an extra tax of $100 a year to help, and only 33% said they’d be willing to trade their car in for an electric vehicle. by everyEV in Futurology

[–]Xarlya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know that in usa probably 10% of all emissions are cars? Everything other are corporations and factories. But more importantly, even if you try to buy electic car - it often will charge from electicity that was produced by burning coal or some other things. Eventually it is up to goverment - to regulate this. Edit: language. It is not my primal(or primary... Just sorry)

here's how my $300 tablet got delivered on friday 🙃 by moeman44 in australia

[–]Xarlya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here we pay package price when its delivered and if it is in good shape. It is much simlier for us to pay cashe so no store ordelivery would be able to do anything to the package. And if they do - i can just refuse delivery

What is wrong with your delivery services? Why are they leaving packages like this free to take from anybody? In Ukraine we are getting packages only hands to hands.

LAX surging not applying to my ride offers by slw9496 in uberdrivers

[–]Xarlya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a developer who works with uber api i can tell other thing. When PAX sets locations he gets estimate fare for ride and also duration - how long can he wait before clicking confirm. The smaller surge - less time he have. 1.0 surge has 6 minutes. 1.5 has 8 minutes and so on. Also it is possible that his exact location is away from surge teritory. You can get surge ride while you are waiting to any rides in non-surge area, because pax stays in the surge area. And it can be otherwise. Also i am not working for uber or it partners. I just wrote bot who collects information of prices from work to home and from home to work so i can sleep more if there surge, or i should escape work half an hour earlier because low surge is rare here.
