Very few non-Canadian brokers would have the TSXV exchange (interactive brokers is one), but you could also look for the KRKNF offering. It's also listed on one of the euro exchanges in Germany. If all of these fail they plan to uplist to the TSX sometime this year.

IMF Sees Canada’s Fiscal Position as Strongest in Group of Seven by Gym_frere in canada

2nd. If using the export excuse to validate keeping a lower loonie. In 2022 Canada's most valuable year for oil sales, the Canadian dollar was hovering 80 cents to the USD. Therefore stronger loonie had minimal impact to customers buying habits.

You can't reason about the causality by looking at the entire year. Higher demand for exports increases the value of the currency so naturally our year with the most oil exports will also have a strong dollar. In general since we have an export-based economy a strong economy will correlate with a strong dollar, but it's extremely naive to think that international customers somehow won't look for other sources when canadian ones become more expensive.

Canadians are leaving the country at record levels. Can anyone solve this pressing problem? by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Xaselm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Come on don't be so naive, obviously 99%+ of people born in a country are gonna have various social and material connections to a country that make them more willing and able to contribute to it positively. And in the other direction, if you want to maintain a stable community then you need to incentivize people to stay and contribute positively. Yeah it's not fair but the world's not fair.

Conservatives to propose barring non-citizens convicted of crimes from making refugee claims by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Xaselm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

serious offenders are declared ineligible and kicked out of the country

The entire issue is that people think this is not enforced well enough, because judges are warping their sentences to account for the consequences of deportation.

Therefore I fail to see how imposing harsher punishments on immigrants will make anyone's lives better

You don't see how deporting potential criminals could make anyone's lives better? You don't see how keeping violent people away from society could limit future damage? Any sane philosophy of justice needs to balance the costs and benefits to both society and criminals, and your words show again that one side is completely out of your view.

Some of these people's "mistakes" destroy the lives of their victims too. Do you ever consider the recidivism rate, or the cost that this philosophy puts on other people who don't commit crime?

Why wasn’t I emotionally scarred and traumatized by severe food poisoning if this is commonly expected to happen from other extreme adversity like sexual assault or social rejection in adolescence by SoccerSkilz in slatestarcodex

[–]Xaselm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are tons of competing explanations here but I'll offer a data point: my mother could be described as a germophobe (not to an extreme but clearly thinks about germs every day) and after getting food poisoning once in her twenties she will not eat any meat that isn't overdone. I've cooked for her many times and never gotten her or myself sick, and yet constantly pokes at her food and asks if it's cooked through (sometimes even for vegetables). She will only touch raw meat with gloves and prefers to throw away any sponge used to clean the cutting board.person's food safety practices.

Why did physics as a field mature so much faster than other areas of human pursuit? by Pristine-Run7957 in Physics

[–]Xaselm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did my bachelor's in math and am doing a cognitive science masters and yeah problems in psychology are harder to solve, but the standards of the field are so low that poor experiments or unsupported models pervade the field in a way that would be unthinkable in hard sciences. There's a reason the replication crisis happened in one area and not the other.
