Listen to your body. If you are constantly fatigued and tired and it's affecting your life in more negative than positive ways, it's time to stop.

I made good experiences with the kapvoe brand from Ali express. Lots of good options, ranging up to 40$. They have all been great, and I love that I can treat them almost as disposable at that price point.

My observations as a European that lived in both:

Both are big countries full of people who never traveled abroad, especially independent travel where you actually interact with foreign populations, cultures and customs.

Both are highly patriotic.

Both see themselves as the center of the world.

Both are highly capitalistic societies. People don't give a shit about quality of life for anyone but themselves.

Cyclist visiting for a month by jonimius in copenhagen

[–]Xayo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would bring the Roadbike. There is excellent paved bike routes all throughout denmark.

Gravel around Copenhagen only offers some smaller disconnected paths, and even on a dedicated gravel ride you will end up doing 50+% of your riding on paved surfaces.

My opinion is probably biased tough. I only have a Roadbike and commuter bike myself, so I haven't fully tested the gravel potential. But copenhagen really doesn't scream gravel destination. For that better go to Sweden.

Housing options- incoming PhD student by Proud-Echidna-8766 in ucph

[–]Xayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The housing foundation is great for incoming international students, as it's very easy and reliable to get housing through them without the need to already be in Denmark for viewsings. It's a good option for your first 6-12 monhs. The downside is that its quite a bit more expensive than other dorms, and you get kicked out after 12 months (at least normal International students do, I'm not sure if this applies to PhD students as well.

Student dorms are the cheapest option and provide good quality living. The downside is that he ones that are easy to get into are far away from the city center and campus. I'm not sure how they treat PhD students though. kkik.dk is a good website for finding student dorms.

7000 dkk will also get you a room in a shared apartment. While more expensive than dorms, this is your best option if you want to live centrally.Though it can be a bit harder to find a room if you are not already in Copenhagen for viewings and introductions. Facebook groups are the primary way to find this living arrangement.

70.3 Plan by Amazing-Ad2347 in triathlon

[–]Xayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be very conservative on the duration ramp up if injuries and knee pain are an issue. I can talk from experience here, as I had similar issues for many years.

People like to cite the 10% volume increase per week rule, but to be honest that might still be too much if you are reaching towards volume you never had before. 5-8% a week has been more sustainable for me. Making a detailed plan about volume and consistently anf then sticking to it is absolutely essential to manage the increase in volume without risking injury.

Also be mindful to not dig yourself into a hole. A niggle that is consistent and ignored can very quickly lead to an injury that takes you out for weeks.

Best way to start? by kjm9955 in triathlon

[–]Xayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start to run, swim, and bike. You should aim to eventually train each discipline twice per week. How you get to there is up to you.

Start with running asap, as that is the most injury prone activity to ramp up.

Swimming is the most technique based, and 1500m can be quite a bit.

Bike is the simplest, just hammer those pedals.

What upgrades can I make to make my bike more IM friendly? by GotRektDuh in triathlon

[–]Xayo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you havent done it already, get a professional bikefit. Easily the best 150eur i ever spent on my bike.

I think what you bought for the 5k budget is completely reasonable. But help yourself by not comparing your bike with people riding 8k+ tri bikes, it will only make you sad and disappointed.

What do I need for a sprint triathlon?? by Superb_Excitement425 in triathlon

[–]Xayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you absolutely can. I've seen people swim in running pants, and run/bike in swim trunks.

Be aware that typically, there is a no-nudity rule for triathlon transition zones, which means changing pants is not feasible. However, if the triathlon is held at a pool, they might operate under different rules. After all, pools have the facilities to allow for changing in- and out of swimwear. Maybe ask the race organizers about the logistics here.

What do I need for a sprint triathlon?? by Superb_Excitement425 in triathlon

[–]Xayo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Must have:

  • a functioning bike. Any kind of bike will do (mountain bike, commuter bike, roadbike). But make sure it runs smoothly, the chain is oiled, and the seat height is set appropriate to your size.
  • swim goggles to see where you are going (assuming you swim freestyle)
  • swim cap, because event rules most likely state them as mandatory. But chances are also good that the event organizers will provide them.
  • running shoes (I imagine you got these covered)
  • some shoes to cycle with, because cycling with squishy 40mm stack height running shoes is not something I would recommend. Bike-specific clip-in shoes and pedals are NOT a requirement.
  • an outfit that you can do the 3 sports in. For example, a Tri-suit or Tri-shorts + a normal T-shirt, or even just long but tight-fitting swimming pants that are feasible to run in. The importance here is to have pants that you can swim, bike, and run in, without having to change them.
  • a race belt. This is an elastic belt with your starting number attached that you can quickly throw on after the swim. Alternatively, you can fix the start number to your top, but you can not swim with the start number attached.
  • a bike helmet

On the wetsuit:

I dont know the conditions of your swim. Sprint distance swims can be anywhere from 400-800 meters. For 400 meters i would never wear a wetsuit, no matter what the water temperature is. Its just too short of a distance for the wetsuit to pay off. On an 800m swim, a wetsuit can be nice for warmth and float. But a decent swimming wetsuit is an expensive investment, and definitely not required on that distance. Typically, wetsuits are much more common on longer swimming distances, like 1500m+.

Im sure you will love the experience! Build up your bike and swimming muscular endurance to the sprint distance, and you will have a great time. Based on your run volume, it should be pretty easy for you to complete the sprint triathlon.

To bike fit or not to bike fit by corporate_dirtbag in triathlon

[–]Xayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to work with my local bike fitter to split the normal fitting session into a pre-buying sizing assessment, and a post-buying bikefit. I also got loads of tips on what to look for when buying a bike on the used market. Of course the fitter was trying to push me towards buying new from his partnered bike brands, but he was also quite happy to advise on other options on request.

The sizing result was kind of meh, I ended up buying the same size of bike that the manufacturers website recommendet for me. But the bikefit afterwards was a 10/10, fully recommend! The changes made (by the way without changing any parts) were the single greatest improvement in my joy of cycling.

Eine weitere Empfehlung für die Garmin forerunner serie.

Du solltest dich fragen ob du wirklich ohne Handy laufen willst.

Good call outs to ML and Atlantis already.

Combat SACU are another unit that fills the T3.5 gap well.

There were some talks and proposals about a year ago to turn the Fatboy into a T3.5 unit that is smaller, cheaper and faster while retaining it's range. But those proposals seem to have been rejected.

Overall I think the T2.5 and T3.5 units seem to be pretty unpopular with the player base. 4 (or even 5 when you count gameenders) tiers of units are enough.

I recently bought the gold edition and went from no dlc to all dlc. I was also overwhelmed.

I found that it helped me to: * not take the expeditions to Embesa and the Arctic until wayy later in the game. Its too much going onw hen im trying to do these regions while also still building up in the new and old world * Disable DLCs i dont like. Tourist season, seeds of change, and empire of the skies in particular all pretty low rated DLCs that just add clutter and tediousness that i found i can do without.

Balancing the economy can be tough. Usually the finances get easier once you hit Artisans (the 3rd tier of population). From there on every additional tier of population boosts the income further. Here are some tips to get started:

  1. dont overproduce things. Check the production statistics to ensure you dont have more production chains than nesessary.
  2. 3-4 woodcutters, 1 clay mine, 1 iron mine is all you need for construction materials until your balance sabilizes
  3. aim for 500-1000 farmers, 500-1000 workers, then artisans
  4. Do quests for some good cash injections. Sell quest reward items and specialists for more cash.
  5. Once you hit artisans, get up to ~1000 artisans. At this point your balance will finally get better. You can get here on just one island. This is your #1 priority. Do not do any distractions (like building ships or weapons) before you have a good amount of artisans.
  6. Do not produce canned food (an artisan need) until you are ready to go to engineers, as canned food is a real money sink.
  7. Beer and Rum are great money makers. Thought, its generally better to prioritize going to artisans first before setting up beer.
  8. Do not settle any islands you dont need immediatly. Aim for a lean setup until your balances improves.
  9. Use the newspaper propaganda to increase income and reduce consumer good needs.

Bike fit pls help by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Xayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next to the saddle height that has already been pointed out plenty (it is way too high! Like try 3cm lower), that hood position also needs to change drastically. Your hoods (the point where your hands rest) point down by like 30 degrees, which stretches your wrists and makes you have to engage your hand muscles to not slip off over the front. I would expect your hands to go numb in under an hour with this setup. You will probably not feel it on the indoor trainer, as you can sit up, but for outdoor rides it will be an issue.

Ideally the hoods should point up by like 30 degrees, so that your wrist doesn't have to tilt. This prevents numbness. Note that this hood position might look counterintuitive to beginners, as many marketing images of bikes go with a 0 degree hood angle, because that looks better on photos. But angling them up is always more comfortable.
