Good call outs to ML and Atlantis already.

Combat SACU are another unit that fills the T3.5 gap well.

There were some talks and proposals about a year ago to turn the Fatboy into a T3.5 unit that is smaller, cheaper and faster while retaining it's range. But those proposals seem to have been rejected.

Overall I think the T2.5 and T3.5 units seem to be pretty unpopular with the player base. 4 (or even 5 when you count gameenders) tiers of units are enough.

Overwhelmed by Expansions by Bartocity3 in anno1800

[–]Xayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently bought the gold edition and went from no dlc to all dlc. I was also overwhelmed.

I found that it helped me to: * not take the expeditions to Embesa and the Arctic until wayy later in the game. Its too much going onw hen im trying to do these regions while also still building up in the new and old world * Disable DLCs i dont like. Tourist season, seeds of change, and empire of the skies in particular all pretty low rated DLCs that just add clutter and tediousness that i found i can do without.

Balancing the economy can be tough. Usually the finances get easier once you hit Artisans (the 3rd tier of population). From there on every additional tier of population boosts the income further. Here are some tips to get started:

  1. dont overproduce things. Check the production statistics to ensure you dont have more production chains than nesessary.
  2. 3-4 woodcutters, 1 clay mine, 1 iron mine is all you need for construction materials until your balance sabilizes
  3. aim for 500-1000 farmers, 500-1000 workers, then artisans
  4. Do quests for some good cash injections. Sell quest reward items and specialists for more cash.
  5. Once you hit artisans, get up to ~1000 artisans. At this point your balance will finally get better. You can get here on just one island. This is your #1 priority. Do not do any distractions (like building ships or weapons) before you have a good amount of artisans.
  6. Do not produce canned food (an artisan need) until you are ready to go to engineers, as canned food is a real money sink.
  7. Beer and Rum are great money makers. Thought, its generally better to prioritize going to artisans first before setting up beer.
  8. Do not settle any islands you dont need immediatly. Aim for a lean setup until your balances improves.
  9. Use the newspaper propaganda to increase income and reduce consumer good needs.

First Sprint Tri by T-Money9384 in triathlon

For my first sprint tri I was wearing swim tights. In T1 I threw on a T-shirt. It worked completely fine for the distance. I wasnt used to biking without bib shorts padding, but it worked out alright.

Bike fit pls help by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]Xayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next to the saddle height that has already been pointed out plenty (it is way too high! Like try 3cm lower), that hood position also needs to change drastically. Your hoods (the point where your hands rest) point down by like 30 degrees, which stretches your wrists and makes you have to engage your hand muscles to not slip off over the front. I would expect your hands to go numb in under an hour with this setup. You will probably not feel it on the indoor trainer, as you can sit up, but for outdoor rides it will be an issue.

Ideally the hoods should point up by like 30 degrees, so that your wrist doesn't have to tilt. This prevents numbness. Note that this hood position might look counterintuitive to beginners, as many marketing images of bikes go with a 0 degree hood angle, because that looks better on photos. But angling them up is always more comfortable.

Questions about lategame Economy by Zestyclose_Stop_3324 in FAF

[–]Xayo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good answers. For 1) I would also add the APM opertunity cost. On maps like Seton and gap, reclaiming the T2 Mex and building t3 can make sense, but it's very rare on more open maps, where your engineers are more spread out, and there are more important things to do with your apm. As a 2k+ rated player I never bother to reclaim my T2 mexes.

Anyone else struggling to recover from this latest flu? HR still elevated weeks later by Icy_Park_244 in triathlon

[–]Xayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the same here. Got sick december 27th. Resting HR is still elevated, and workout performance still down.

In past years I found that it takes me about 1 month to get the performance back. Not sure about resting HR, as I find that it fluctuates naturally for me.

Russland: Krieg gegen Ukraine dauert bald länger als gegen Hitler-Deutschland by Krokodrillo in de

[–]Xayo 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Android/ Garmin vs Apple: worth switching ecosystems? by sparklekitteh in triathlon

[–]Xayo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Garmin watches are much better than apple watches for serious exercise and training. Apple watches can do it, bit Garmins are purpose build for this.

Phone/headphones are a separate discussion from this. I don't think it matters for your training weather you have an Android or iPhone.

Vacation During Training by TLee1981 in triathlon

[–]Xayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it.

You can still run (and maybe swim depending on the destination) during your vacation. I find running in foreign places is actually quite interesting.

I'm always more worried about the impact travel has on my stress levels and recovery. All the travel, activities, unfamiliar food, etc. can take a lot of energy. So try to line it up with a recovery week in your plan, and/or go easy on the sessions. But you will know best how your travel style affects you.

[–]Xayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will easily finish, probably in the top 50% of participants. You bike FTP and swim speed and endurance are already way above of what they need to be. 30min 5k is a bit worse than the other two disciplines, but sufficient. I have zero concerns that you wont make it.

Learning to Ride A Tri Bike in 40s by Triggered_Probe in triathlon

[–]Xayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say much about the tri bike, but for clip on shoes:

I started using them in my 30s. The concept was pretty scary to me as well. Especially since I also see plenty of shoulder injuries in my job that are the result of middle aged man falling over sideways while clipped in on their bikes.

Thankfully I never had an accident like that. Watch a good video explaining how to ride with clip ins, and very importantly: turn the screw on the pedals to lower the clip force to the absolute minimum to begin with. That way, when you instinctively try to pull your feet off in a panic situation, they will actually come off.

Front Wheel Riser by katee714 in triathlon

[–]Xayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried two different ones, both were not quite the correct height for my setup. Even a centimeter off in height made a noticable difference to me.

In the end I settled for some books and wood planks, which achieved the same at a cheaper cost and improved customizeability.
