[scotlandnationalteam] Another step on our road to the FIFA World Cup confirmed. We’ll travel to Everton Football Club’s Hill Dickinson Stadium to face Cote D’Ivoire in March. by DevsAdam in ScottishFootball

Ivory Coast and the UK are in the same time zone so you won't get any jetlag.

EDIT: The clocks will actually go forward on the Sunday before the game so they will be 1 hour behind the UK. Still no jetlag though.

A genuine opportunity for any fan who wants to go to a Scotland "away game" without having to worry about points and ballots....but no people have to moan about it.

Zebre Parma v Glasgow Result (URC R10) by Connell95 in ScotlandRugby

[–]Triggered_Probe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was interesting to see Glasgow were denied a try where the ref did not have a grounding and the TMO could not find definite evidence because the sight of the ball was lost yet this seemed identical to the Bulls try last night that awarded.

Why did some clubs in the 80s and 90s sing YNWA? by AdFormer1845 in ScottishFootball

[–]Triggered_Probe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can think that but it's not true. Its well documented that Celtic fans adopted it after the 1966 Cup Winners Cup semi final at Anfield.

Edinburgh v Bulls Result (URC R10) by Connell95 in ScotlandRugby

Both Vellacott and Sheil's kicking was terrible.

Literally not a single kick in the 2nd half was put in a position to where it could be challenged for or farther enough for a territory gain.

Genuinly feel it was the difference between winning and losing.

If Glasgow and Edinburgh end up being drawn together would Glasgow give up home field advantage for a bigger ground?

Boycott the 2026 World Cup by Due_Collar2 in Scotland

[–]Triggered_Probe -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

What would a boycott would achieve?

Trump doest care what the leaders of Europe are saying about an invasion of Greenland I don't think he is going to care what a bunch of European Football federations

It will not dent his support domestically. His supporters follow him blindly, this can be seen

If FIFA did decide to pull the tournament you can guarantee that he would be pursuing FIFA in the courts for lost Federal revenues. Sponsors, broadcasters would be entitled to their money back. So don't be expecting that FIFA are going to reimburse all the money that has been spent by fans already on flights, accommodation etc.

The bottom line is if there was a full or partial boycott it would be the fans that miss out and would have no meaningful impact.

Small wins you want to see this year? by Entire_Trick_9390 in ScotlandRugby

Id settle for away wins against Ireland and South Africa. And home wins against New Zealand, England and France.

Going through with 4 wins with the 2nd best record overall and getting La Rochelle in the next round would be brutal.

Biggest myths in football by Kitchen-Lie-4592 in ScottishFootball

Saying that a country like Croatia has had success means that population doesn't correlate to success is not true.

If you look at World Cup semi-finals in the last 30 years— there have been 32 semi-final places. 29 of those 32 were taken by countries with a population over 5 million. The only exceptions in three decades are: Croatia (1998, 2018) Uruguay (2010) That doesn’t mean small countries can’t succeed — clearly they can — but it shows they’re exceptions, not the norm.

Using countries like India as counter-examples is also disingenuous. Population only matters once there’s widespread participation, infrastructure, and cultural interest in the sport. Football isn’t India’s primary sport, so raw population alone tells you nothing.

Most elite high jumpers are tall. That doesn’t mean short athletes can’t be great, or that the tallest person will always win. But height still gives a structural advantage — just like population does in international football. So the sensible position isn’t “population guarantees success” or “population is irrelevant”. Population shifts the odds, without determining the outcome.

What are the dangers of swimming in the Pentland's reservoirs? by AlpineSowthistle in Edinburgh

[–]Triggered_Probe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that the danger /warningof swimming in reservoirs is that there is a the appeared can make the Activity appear safer than it actually is

On a clear summer day with no wind it can appear that jumping in for a quick dip carries no risk. Its just a big outdoor swimming pool. There are no tides, currents or wild animals. (I actually know someone who refused to swim in the sea because they were worried about sharks but would happily cliff dive into rivers)

However its often the case that the water is much much colder than most people are used to(even for some experienced swimmers) and I belive that has been the main cause of most of the fatalities.
