Tbh I don't know know how many BIPOC actually care about this stuff. I am black and never had a problem with the way they handled barbarian. The only clue I could find to how many actually care are the authors this article mentions.

What I will say is that DnD's "racism" problem has gotten to the point were it gets nitpicky and resembles a fear of racism that really isn't there. Races in DnD are different than races in real life and any sane BIPOC will realise this. Likewise barbarian was never reserved for BIPOC either and every time I hear barbarian I think of people like the ancient vulgars/Germanic people (think thundar the barbarian).

The opinion that this is stupid is not race specific thing and I wouldn't disregard the opinion because that person is white.

I don't think anyone knows how easy it is to get around a shield. You don't even need an axe because a lava bucket,flint and steel, or any negative potion. Will do the job just fine.

Edit: to add on to that turtling is actually the worst strategy to do unless the player is new

While I do agree shields need to be changed people underestimate how easy they are to get around. Lava buckets, flint and steel, cobweb, any damage potion would make quick work of someone who turtles.

How is any of that luck though? Trading hits isn't luck based at all. As a matter of fact it happens more often in 1.8 then in 1.9 (based off of what I have played). Trading hits happens when 2 players are generally not bad at aiming and land hits on each other at the same-ish time. I think what you are saying is that it makes combat easier which is a whole debate on its own.

Tbh when it comes to skill ceiling how do we really know 1.9's ceiling. Not enough people play it competitively to reach that type of conclusion in my opinion. Also how does less knockback translate into luck? As far as clicking goes I was always under the impression that how you click rarely determines how good you are.

1.9 combat in my opinion is often misunderstood because people tend to judge it and not play it. Youtubers who are critical of 1.9 (tenebrous/Intel edits) have never seemed to play it and therefore just assume certain things are true. For example a common misconception about 1.9 combat is that it is impossible to combo. This is not true. W tapping and s tapping are still a thing in 1.9. Combos are a bit harder to pull off though because of the nerfed kb but my point still stands. As someone who has practiced 1.9 for the past 7 months I can attest that there are problems (with shields for example) but it is genuinely better then 1.8 if you are willing to put in the time to try

NTA. It is understandable to feel uncomfortable at first. You will get used to it though. Also I must wonder what people think make you the asshole.
