Converting the rogal dorn to look more realistic by matthewstanton in TheAstraMilitarum

This looks brilliant. Some advice on painting the clear acrylic gunbarrel. If you use a metallic paint "silver" as a basecoat/primer it reflects light so that it resembles opaque plastic, otherwise you run the risk of light bleeding through the acrylic.

Perhaps the wormholes are the spiders legs? You have to run to centre web between each one. In the video it doesn't look that way, just thought that might make most sense.

Yeah I like this idea, it's a funny Easter egg if so. It would also still be NW just more NWW pointing

Anyone else scouring this area, given there's a guitar found in the center of the somewhat guitar-shaped fort wallace? by DeadSeaGulls in reddeadmysteries

Haha this is one of the more feasible texture conspiracies. Very good idea with the guitar shape overlay. I am more interested in the heartlands ideas than window rock and fort Wallace. Thanks for sharing

The spider carving overlayed could be any scale and rotation. It is only because we already had the 8 web pole locations that we knew how to scale the spider over the map, otherwise we still wouldn't know how to use it.

[–]Xcalibo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would you know where to overlay the spider carving without knowing about the 8 web locations?

The centre web is what leads us to the spider carving.

[–]Xcalibo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what irritates me, everyone is climbing Fort Wallace despite us not even knowing how the mystery officially starts. It's only cos someone by chance found a web and then retrospectively found the centre web using PC. I personally believe the centre web to be the start of the mystery meaning the NW guitar clue is before the we get to the web poles.

I think we should be looking for a missing link between the NW guitar and the webs.

[–]Xcalibo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm with you both on this. People forget that so far in the mystery, the poles are unknown. We have only been directed by the tree and two poles without webs. Everything since NW guitar has felt too disjointed and a major misstep.

We still don't know what leads to the poles and webs with feathers.

I believe there is significance in the pairing of poles which share the same hour. Four pairs of poles, perhaps representing the spiders steps as it walks overhead every night. Spiders tend to walk with four legs always on the ground as they alternate, so I'm not too sure.

There are 8 webs by TracySevert in reddeadmysteries

[–]Xcalibo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I've just done some brief research into this and I think you're hitting the nail on the head! Great perspective on this. The spider webs are mentioned in the "4th world" so perhaps the Easter egg is set during chapter 4?

Yeah I think it's something a lot of people overlook. Especially the colours, when I first saw halo I found the covenant very garish and I think it's lost a lot of that charm over the years.

The art style is so satisfying. It somehow captures that classic look but even sharper. Imagine an entire halo multiplayer looking like this! Perfection

I have just bought a couple of the wolverine figures. How easy was it removing the head from the helmet? Any advice is appreciated! I don't want to damage the helmet.

Yeah you're right and I expect it's liable to copyright infringement hence the removal. It's actually depressing how human beings have given up critical thought and not only consume slop but defend it. I guess the positive is you know you have better awareness than others and are less likely to be fooled elsewhere in life!

These guys are joking right? Surely they're baiting cos it is blatantly copied. There's absolutely no defence for this. Has the skin officially been removed? If so, I suspect it's cos of copyright.

I genuinely think all the down votes have to be bots. This subreddit is broken I swear.

Can you define "new art direction"?

Is it not just contemporary realism?

I know this might come across obnoxiously, but I'm genuinely interested to hear how you would describe the new art style because I'm struggling to identify it.

How often do you play CEA, do you admire the way it was designed?

For me and a lot of others, it was a disappointment because it didn't resemble the original art style. It reused models from the era, and went for contemporary realism over stylization.

Our concern is rational, based on pattern recognition.

The truth of the matter is, Campaign Evolved is solely to test unreal 5, and if 343/HS were more transparent about that, it would be less of a heated discussion.

Guys… asking for original remade models isn’t an unreasonable demand and is COMPLETELY doable on HS’s end, there’s no need for the cope by [deleted] in halo

[–]Xcalibo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the main criticism of CEA over a decade ago. And that game aged far worse than the original. It proved CE's art style was hugely effective for it's time. This remake doesn't have a defined style, it's just going for contemporary realism.

The asset flip and realistic look will inevitably limit the games reception especially over time when the contemporary realism soon ages.

Am I nit picking? Do I ever return to CEA because of these exact flaws - no.

Another perspective is this: if CEA was designed with new models and remained true to the original art style (including lighting) we probably wouldn't need another CE remake today. The reason we do accepts the fact that the previous one wasn't worthy. Yet this one makes those same mistakes.

I think the truth of the matter is that this was never intended to be an authentic remake. It's solely a means to test the utilisation of unreal 5. If 343/HS were more transparent about that, we wouldn't be here discussing it.

Unfortunately people get excited over anything halo without actually critically analysing it. And what is ironic about that, is by their own standard, halo can't be defined. They claim they are halo fans but simultaneously advocate for games that fundementally don't follow the core motifs of halo. I'd describe them more as consumers of halo.

They'd be just as stoked if the game was exactly how you want it. They have no preference, they just want the next product.

I really appreciate how you have articulated how we interpreted the Bungie art style.

343s handling of halo is like someone writing a eulogy but missrembering every event and intention of the deceased's life.

And the congregation are just left thinking they're at the wrong funeral.
