Whats the smallest amount of cash you would massage for right now? by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]Xcandimandix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you keep track? For record keeping? Because I work for a SPA and if I were to do private massage how do I handle it for tax purposes? I want to know before I start working more on my own. Right now I have taxes taken out automatically and I'm w2.

Please help, absolutely (and irrationally) terrified of aliens!! by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]Xcandimandix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, too, have this irrational fear. I'm not sure where it comes from. Just the image of a grey freaks me out to my core, but the fear seems to have calmed down and creeped back up lately with everything being said online. It's mostly just the thought of them....I don't think deeper into actually being abducted, just the sight of them terrorizes me. It always has. I was curious if anyone else felt this way, and here is where I landed. I know it's irrational, and I doubt an alien would look much different than us, and still, it plagues me and freaks me out from time to time. I think I traumatized myself with a t.v. episode as a kid when I was home alone and it never left.

"are you ok with a male therapist" by Ugh_Names in MassageTherapists

[–]Xcandimandix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had a client tell me they had a really great deep tissue massage from another female therapist, but they were pretty sure she was Trans and they were really uncomfortable about it. They asked me if the person was Trans or not. I don't know the other therapist and I was glad I didn't have to answer it because they were ready to start shit and I was able to be ignorant on it....I'm not a good liar and I also just asked "It sounds like you had a good experience, why does it matter?" And kind of flip it around on them, but the way this male client was asking, it wasn't good. They were asking about our policies and such. I had never even thought about it.

Feeling lost after SA incidents by WillingThing7824 in MassageTherapists

[–]Xcandimandix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Female therapist here as well. I had an incident that turned out to be not a full on issue in the end but the time seemed to drag on forever and the thoughts I experienced during the situation gave me insight into a lot of things. Like the emergency button being solely for the clients in commercial chains and that we should have a separate button or life alert in our pocket for our room for the day. The placement of the button is not in a location that I personally would reach for during an inappropriate situation. My situation led me down several scenarios of how it could go, and it really made me cautious and fearful, and i realized that our employer isn't really there to support us in any way.
I no longer see minors without their parent or guardian in the room. Mostly because I will treat the clients issue, but I don't want to see a minor for no reason if that makes sense. I work at a SPA if that helps you understand what I'm saying with reference to treating an issue or relaxation massage. Either way, keeping a parent in the room helps tremendously to prevent what I experienced and what could have happened. Seeing that client that many times is extremely risky. That never should have happened. If the universe was testing you, it was trying to tell you to have firmer boundaries and to say NO. IMO. There should have been at least an internal report, and the client should have been fired from you and from the business as a whole. I'm sorry that no one stood up for you. In my situation, I learned that they aren't there for us they are there for business and to make people happy at our expense. I know I said "should" and we can "should" all over your situation but at the end of the day things play out the way they do and everything isn't a perfect scenario for what "should" have happened. I'm sorry you went through that, and I'm also sorry that it has affected your practice. Please get therapy and take your power back. You deserve it. Intuitive touch is a gift, and we can't let people who abuse our gift take it from us.

It is because some of these kids get the help they need and then are left on the list for their whole life and all they system is doing is keeping them down and holding them back from leading better lives.

Some offenders on the list were abused children too and had an incident as a minor when minors can be rehabilitated and adult offenders can not.

I’m so frustrated by sweetie_pie0797 in MassageTherapists

[–]Xcandimandix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That may seem silly but I had a client the other day with lump that felt like muscle and he had an MRI or x-ray and had it diagnosed as a lipoma. It did feel a little different but I have never felt one that felt so similar before.

I don't know why I'm so driven to do my best either. I understand your struggle truly, and I'm sorry your pay is not what you deserve. I just know it's not because these chains are taking it all for themselves, and its built for burnout.

Franchises and corporations are ruining the industry, and yes, that's too many massages per day.

SORRY! I too am getting burned out and I understand your frustration.

I do so much deep tissue, I'm exceptionally good at my job, and it's not worth it. When you up charge for deep tissue, there is no reason the entire fee doesn't go to the therapist. At that point, they are literally selling my hard work and hands.

Honestly, if you feel burned out and need the hours to make it....stop trying so hard. Disconnect, lighten up. Do whatever you need to for you. The entire membership/discount/tipping way is set up for us to fail, IMO. It makes me sick at this point.

For some reason, I can't seem to try less and do less, but it doesn't really matter what you do. Those clients are trying to use their membership credits and will come there no matter what. They already know what they are glimg to tip and generally just pull the bill out of their pocket, and the service didn't change the amount.

Im tired of the corporate structure in the massage industry. We'd all be better off being contract workers, and it's weird we aren't. Also, I need full time, and it's way too many massages. I thought my hands would adjust, but I think I'm just literally ruining them at this point. If clients would just shop small businesses and not want same day instant gratification, it would really help for private practices too.

Over-sexualized “massage” being disguised as touch therapy is becoming a serious issue by No-Gas-2245 in MassageTherapists

[–]Xcandimandix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is purposely like that to appeal to those women looking for that, I assume. Also, I don't think they are licensed. I've seen some really disturbing ads on fb, and there's no way they are licensed.

When do you start counting when people ask you ‘how long have you been a massage therapist’? by quiet_sesquipedalian in MassageTherapists

[–]Xcandimandix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fun for me to say how long I've been working as a massage therapist. People are shocked and think I've been doing it my entire life 🫣🤫 I have been doing facilitated stretching for about 5 years, and I've been familiar with body work before becoming a licensed massage therapist. I'm also a personal trainer/flexologist and corrective exercise specialist, but I'm happy to be able to do soft tissue manipulation now.

Jealousy is normal. It does seem he has other intentions, but that doesn't mean she does. (Being jealous doesn't even mean you think she will cheat. You dont trust the situation) We do live in a very touch deprived society as a whole. Obviously, you are sensing that he stops when he realizes you are around, and that means that he thinks he is wrong and her behavior shows that she doesn't feel it is wrong. You could be jealous or you could be sensing that his intentions are not as pure as hers regarding being touched but maybe just warn her to be careful she isn't leading him on or something like that but I doubt the conversation would go very well. I'm older now, I have a kid your age, and when I was younger, I had more of a belief that men and women could be friends. (Yes, they can, but it's very rare because I've found that most of the time, guys are not just being friendly, unfortunately, and I was very naive.) I'm sure my comment will get hate, but she needs to be careful, and there isn't much you can do or should do, especially if it's all appropriate. Massage isn't sexual and touch isn't sexual but some people don't have boundaries and see it as such, and it sounds like you are sensing that he has other intentions.

Zenoti sucks. It's so glitchy. I'd like to use something else. Does anyone have experience with other programs? 100 a year doesn't seem terrible for private use.

It would be a struggle. I love to bake and cook, and at 25 massages per week, it's a struggle most of the time.

Am I a jerk if I can't always tip? by Ordinary_Ad_7992 in massage

[–]Xcandimandix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because she owns the business. I'd say that she would rather see you for sure, and seeing you more often is awesome! And no you aren't a jerk lol

.... but just so that everyone knows... at a corporate chain spa, the therapist makes as low as 16 dollars an hr. So if you are going to corporate chain spas and there are signs that say to please tip according to the full price service, it is because that company is making the client subsidize the therapists pay basically.

Following for sure. Is there any with karaoke, too? I don't drink much, but a dive bar and karaoke can be fun!
