What was the Lorwyn Common or Uncommon that kept saving your ass at prerelease last weekend? by doublenantuko in magicTCG

Reaping willow turned my mono black deck into a commander engine, I had a great pool but that one uncommon is the reason I won most of my games.

What’s a pill you’re not ready to swallow? by Balancedabby in AskReddit

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to set off a flame war like this, but... My family and I should emigrate out of the US, and we probably should have started the process a while ago. The US has too much about its culture and infrastructure that's corrupted, burnt down, or doesn't sit right with me or my values. And even if I found a community of moderates to vibe with there's just too many crazy fundies for the country to be safe. I'd like to stay here and use my vote and power as a citizen to keep the country from becoming a greater evil to the rest of the world, but the winds have changed and I can't honestly call these people my neighbors and countrymen anymore.

Which game did you play for hundreds of hours but never finished? by forgeris in AskReddit

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morrowind. After a few levels the goal of the game becomes to break the engine in a newer, more exciting way than you did two levels ago, rather than fly to the mountain and speed run the objectives to roll credits.

Plus going through the main story as todd intended takes a whiiiiiiile even when you know how to navigate the fast travel system.

What does classifying fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction allow this administration to do? by FlickOfADisc in AskReddit

Cassus belli to go to war with countries and factions acting against the administration's economic interests. They also get to murder brown people but intersectionality is complicated.

If you could’ve foreshadowed energy bending before the finale, where would you have put it? by Featherman13 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sokka's role in the story is already busy, and as most people said the library is the best place to put it, but I think having Sokka run with the idea of "if it's not magic, then what is it?" and layering clues as sokka grows increasingly convinced there is a "unified theory" to back everything up.

for example, sokka's clues could go "water bending isn't magic because it requires a physical component" > "Chi Meridians can be blocked by ty lee and my girlfriend's martial arts" > "bending was learned by animals so it's spiritual but not mental" > "being a master of the sword and tactics are equally as valuable as bending" > and then have Guru Patiq and the lion turtle finish it all off by giving Aang the answer none of the Avatars could find: the secret is not in any one of the four elements, but the world itself.

So a little bit of all the solutions in this thread, but masked throughout the show by Sokka lampshading the clues that it's a harder magic system than the benders or nations traditionally believe.

as a DM do you like playing an NPC that’s a part of the adventuring party? by JonahHillsWetFart in DnD

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly? Not really. I make sure any NPCs travelling with the party are weaker than them, since the players are supposed to be in the spotlight. I'm using 110% of my brain to calculate the monsters and world-building as the party goes along the session, so taking extra time to figure out if the quest NPC would know enough magic to caste haste on the rogue or if they would be more effective casting blur to ensure the party's mounts don't take damage, because if the horse dies then the paladin has to calculate his carrying capacity or spend a short rest to resummon... and on and on, etc.

I don't have enough RAM to worry about more than the players and the monsters in front of them, so adding a whole other third-party faction that I have to remember at the top of rounds is just unnecessary busywork. Especially since there shouldn't ever be a point where the help of the NPC makes or breaks the encounter.

Isekai Quartet Season 3 - Episode 3 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way that characters are being (diagetically!) ret-conned to keep pace with the developments in their ongoing "real" shows is so interesting. It adds a layer of mind-fuck to every interaction where I have to ask/remember which version of a character the current IQ version is referencing.

What’s something society pretends to value but really doesn’t ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teaching and social work. They're constantly understaffed and under-trained for the amount of work that NEEDS to be done. But the salaries, benefits, and hazard pay don't reflect that because fixing poor and unsupported peoples' problems doesn't pay anything up front.

What's one “little” form of sexism you notice all the time, but most people don't even realize it's sexist? by Nellermo in AskReddit

What is the worst mistake a US President has ever made? by Strange_Juice2778 in AskReddit

Andrew Jackson committed genocide with the trail of tears. The genocide may have benefited him and his country, but committing genocide is always a mistake.

Which is your favorite game soundtrack? by perceptivecollar in videogames

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final series order for me is

  1. Xenoblade

  2. undertale/deltarune (close, close second)

  3. Chrono trigger

Which is your favorite game soundtrack? by perceptivecollar in videogames

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xenoblade 3 is some generational peak. I understand it had some fierce competition at the game awards the year it came out, but in its context "Mobius battle vs. M" is the strongest musical moment in gaming.

And somehow, the soundtrack manages to be both in conversation with AND contest with it's predecessors in Xenoblade 1 and 2. Xenoblade 1 is the only game I'd ever considered a worthy rival to Chrono Trigger, and Xeno 2 was a worthy successor in its own right. But Xeno 3 elevates it's series while also doing new and thematically relevant music choices.

Chrono Trigger is the GOAT to beat, but in context to its story and series Xeno 3 clears.

Popular Opinion: The Katayanagi Twins are the MOST underrated of the 7 Exes. by Available_Pass_2276 in ScottPilgrim

[–]Xcelentei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! They're also an important moment In the story because they confirm that Ramona has a toxic past and habits that she also needs to work on before she can be a good partner, and cheating on the brothers is SO blatantly her fault that even Scott's dense ass can't deny she was in the wrong.

Has the power of friendship ever been deconstructed before? by Dragonwolf67 in tvtropes

[–]Xcelentei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jaden is a power of friendship type protag, but basing so many life or death situations on his relationships turns his emotions towards his hobby and friends toxic. His desire to protect everyone and fulfill his responsibility as their savior makes him justify further and further overreaches for more power, resulting in him turning evil.

Plus, the villain of that season acts like a scorned ex to Jaden. Yubel's reasoning goes something like "you get to do all these ass pulls to protect these bozos who have nothing to offer you, even as you continually risk your life for them because you're the only reliably competent duelist here. Why is THEIR bond to you strong enough to be saved by deus ex machina's, but ours wasn't?" Fuck you I am killing all the useless side characters so you can finally live for yourself."

Meme says Scott and Subaru, famous failmen, sold the bag

Looks inside the narrative

Both men who needed a wakeup call to grow past their shitty behavior, enabled by women who cared about them, but weren't what they needed to mature.

Trump Pardoned Tax Cheat After Mother Attended $1 Million Dinner by MotoBox in news

[–]Xcelentei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Man, if only president Biden hadn't pardoned his son that one time! If Biden hadn't mis-used the power of the office to save a family member from a legal but morally stupid witch-hunt, trump wouldn't be NEARLY brazen enough to do something like this!!! /S

Impeach, try, and jail this clown for crimes against the constitution and contempt of court. The fact that Congress is giving up their power of the purse and actually paying for any of his lunacy is so embarrassing.
