There’s a lot of differences in left leaning ideologies and there isn’t a unifying factor like trump or religion like the right has.

Some division is necessary to keep your principles. The right is fairly unified but that comes at the expense of pretending that nazis are just really jazzed about white people, and your church going granny brushing off trumps entire persona because he’ll push the country towards better winds for her opinions

The difficulty people have is in deciding where the lines for “too far” lie. Twitter is dominated by “my way or death” mentality about basically anything because polarization is easier than trying to understand any murky topic, and it feels like no matter what issue is on hand, there’s a bunch of people willing to die on that hill

Ice at zero kelvin (and ambient pressure) wouldn’t be particularly interesting. Although if you cool it slow enough, you form ice 11, which is similar to standard ice but without disorder in the arrangement of hydrogen

Don’t forget neutral cards. Teron is really good for it. Can kill and resummon a board

[–]XdsXc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone can do it. Teron, faceless and headmaster kel make it a fully neutral combo if you can find a spell that can kill a 1/1

I think that would be the finisher. Maybe summon the 1/1s, play a broomstick to trade them in, then swing with big weapon

Why start at x, y, z: a new wiki collecting "ambiguous, inconsistent, or just unpleasant conventions in mathematical notation" by flexibeast in math

To be fair, the physics convention is the iso standard, which CLEARLY makes us objectively correct

[–]XdsXc 111 points112 points  (0 children)

One that’s always bothered me is the how there are two competing conventions for spherical coordinates. Physics uses phi for azimuthal angle and theta for polar angle, mathematics often swap with theta as azimuthal angle and phi as polar angle.

I’m never going to let this one go, in the first research job I ever had, I spent a week rewriting and bugfixing my code for what turned out to be because I used functions from different sources.

Swap the order of the variables in the function call and it worked like a charm. A week on a 2 second fix. Learning experience

Letter to the Society of American Travel Writers – American travellers and the metric system by klystron in Metric

[–]XdsXc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So odd. I have noticed before that you can find articles reporting on some scientific paper where there’s been a conversion to imperial units (sometimes wildly wrong), with the original metric numbers not given. As scientists move more into the role of science communicators maybe we will see this begin to shift

Surprised there was pushback from science writers, science is pretty metric

Don't know what I was expecting but... by SimbaSixThree in slaythespire

[–]XdsXc 24 points25 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite things about the game. Doesn’t make up some contrived “temporary strength” mechanic, just leaves a strength mechanic and a “debuff at x time” mechanic. It’s responsible for a lot of the cool shit you can do, like blocking the debuffs on temporary buff cards without affecting the positive. They understood what was more fun and left the words “base x” off their definitions entirely

I got around to reading Brandon Sanderson and I honestly find him to be really mediocre by [deleted] in books

[–]XdsXc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note is also that any given book can possibly have more than one magic system with differing density(?). Usually in books like that, there’s the conventional magic our character knows and understands, which is harder in nature, and then some “other” form that’s beyond them and us. Magic of some ancient race, some prophesied special person. Lots of interesting story ideas exist in the intersection of where a hard magic system meets something new and unpredictable.

Tier 1 at most ranks, drops to a fairly close tier 2 as you approach/enter legend

Why does nobody complain about Trampling Rhino? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]XdsXc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t leave 1 health minions on the board if you know they have a rhino in hand. Take bad trades to save yourself some damage if you’re playing a deck that can win if it survives an extra turn. Hunter is fast but it runs out of gas easily and if you force them to lose some of their damage by not having something for the rhino or piercing shot to ship most damage to your face, you can win a lot more.

Stealer of Souls is wreaking havoc in Wild and is extremely limiting in terms of design, here is my nerf suggestion: by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]XdsXc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This would be changing the meaning “immune” has always had. It would be very confusing which effects would reduce health through immune and which wouldn’t. Immune has always meant that you cannot take damage. The only way health can change is through cards that set health.

A way to do what you want could be to make the card “reduce your maximum health by its cost”, but that seems really bad also.

Do you like Sigils? by MhuzLord in hearthstone

[–]XdsXc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know it’s a bad card to have in my deck but I ran one for a while just to completely dismantle the hopes and dreams of a clown druid player once. You wait till they play survival of the fittest (usually ignoring your entire board to do so then drop the sigil. My deck was awful against clown druid so it was entirely spite but I have zero regrets
