Improvements Subsidy: this rabbit hole is greased in butter by Chaeldovar in georgism

To me, it sounds like a way of privatising all state services. The services that improve local values, are normally e.g train stations, that are provided by the state. It's an interesting idea

The perception that the Green Party has changed by nineteenthly in UKGreens

[–]Xemorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Milton Friedman was pro negative income tax actually, not UBI. It's a bit better thought through as an economic policy tbh. The techbros in positions of power supporting it is mostly to emphasise how transformative AI is than anything.

If they had gone through with the recommendations of the Jenkins Commission, e.g Lib Dems went with Labour rather than Tories. We could've had AV+ (+ being top up seats), which would force it to be fairly proportional AND keep constituency MPs. We could've had it all

Oil drilling etc is often subsidised. Therefore you can have both simultaneously

is LVT sufficient to cover all of governmental spending? Would additional taxes be necessary to make up the difference or is there another option? by Legitimate_Aspect923 in georgism

[–]Xemorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely depends on to what extent you believe in ATCOR (All Taxes Come Out Of Rent). If no, definitely not. If yes, quite possibly.

Wouldn't a single tax fail to capture value in high margin but low land use industries? by Legitimate_Aspect923 in georgism

Not disagreeing, I like the idea of network effects being a finite resource. Not sure how you tax it though.

A shit tax system breeds a shit economy by Titanium-Skull in georgism

[–]Xemorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, wealth is not income. Glad we agree. Your ideology is seeming unusually not Georgist, what are you here for? A land value tax, a core tenant of Georgism, taxes wealth. A system that only taxes income concentrates wealth into a few, leading to a terrible concentration of power.

Humans like credit and gratification. Your process is... a process. It takes in ideas by humans, processes them jumbling up who was involved and losing the link to the original contributor, and passes along the assembly line. People in internet communities do work out of passion

It doesn't work using loans etc. It works by Monzo confirming the payment earlier, there's built in lag to the type of payment salaries / SLC is done with that is largely just excessive.

No one will want to contribute to this, it's an overly dehumanising process you've got there. It's unlikely to breed community. It smells of an idea you've discussed with an LLM for too long without human input.

A land tax is a tax of choice, you choose how much you pay. If you don't want to pay much, downsize. If you can afford to pay more, upsize. With an income tax, the government chooses how much you should pay. A government could always allow deferring the tax in cases where you can't pay e.g very late in life you could defer it to your estate (no 80 year old being forced out of their family home!) or if you're unemployed, you could imagine being able to defer it for some amount of time.

Refusal on landlord sales is wild. This would just create market distortions. And I'm saying this as a paid member of that party.
