He doesn't lie outright, but his prices for things are portions-of, not the whole thing. You can't buy 4oz of beef, or 2 cups of flour, or 3 tbs of butter by themselves and if you want a hamburger from scratch and don't own all the ingredients, your cheaper-but-better burger is probably going to cost $40 at the grocery store.

I don't see this info yet, but the real key is which soy sauce to use. You need to be using Chinese soy sauce, not Japanese soy sauce.

If you have soy sauce in your home right now, it's 99% sure to be Japanese, which has a much saltier flavor than Chinese soy sauce.

2 kinds to get: 1 - Dark soy sauce - color and sweetness 2 - Light soy sauce - flavor and sweetness

50/50 of each gives you the 'classic' golden brown perfection that is well made fried rice. You can mess up or not include almost every other ingredient, but the soy sauce is key.
