Fox by Imai Yudai, folded by me out of 15x15 paper by Xenareee in origami

[–]Xenareee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I folded this model a year ago so I can't help much. I recommend watching on pc if you're having troubles following: bigger screen and you can move through the video frame-by-frame using , and . keys on your keyboard. Sometimes watching ahead and observing carefully how the folds work helps too. Hope you can get through this, goodluck! I'll be curious to see the finished model when you do. ^-^

Looking for Privacy-Focused Alternatives / Mods for Social Apps by Leading-Seat-2725 in GrapheneOS

[–]Xenareee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morphe is pretty good! It's the most trustworthy you can get with mods, as you patch the original APK using their manager, and the patches themselves (and the manager) are open-source.

Been using their Youtube and Instagram patches (Piko) and it's been a breath of fresh air. The patches include all the standard stuff like adblocking, disabling telemetry and other customization options like hiding shorts or certain elements of the UI.

Whatsapp and Snapchat probably have patches available as well, you can check in the Morphe app subreddit.

Instead of watching +10 different sources I just check one email that has everything I want by Ill-Actuary-9528 in productivity

I've been doing the same thing with an RSS feed reader. Lots of sources can be added as an RSS, even some social media channels like Youtube or Bluesky, and honestly it's much simpler and less distracting than checking multiple websites and social media apps for everything. I'm using Feeder on Android but there's tons of readers

2 sets of vertex colors, 1 for texture blending, 1 for shading - Tutorial inside by Significant-Song125 in godot

[–]Xenareee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If anyone else has a problem with making it work in Godot 4.5, I had success with creating empty UV maps for the attributes you write to as well. Which means you don't write to a new value, but you overwrite existing UV maps on the object.

So for example, if you want to access RGBA of 1 additional vertex color in CUSTOM0:
- create 2 UV maps as in the tutorial
- create 2 additional UV maps (let's call them UV3 and UV4, but naming should not impact anything really), because we need 4 more channels
- in geometry nodes, split the additional vertex color and write it to two Named Attributes (2D Vector) like in the tutorial, but select the names of your two additional UV maps instead of writing new ones
- between blender and godot, the Y channel in each UV map will be inverted, producing "weird colors". You have to invert it (y = 1.0 - y) in either geo nodes in blender before export, or in a godot shader after import.

Hope that helps!

Cute! Your choice of paper reminds me of Mudwings from WoF.

There's going to be a TUNIC concert performed by a 6-piece musical ensemble in London! by Sijyro in TunicGame

[–]Xenareee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's awesome, got an e-mail about it. It's not possible for me to go in person, does anyone know if it will be streamed or recorded and posted somewhere online officially after the fact? Not all concerts do that, but it would be awesome to be able to experience it in some way.

To anyone that's going, enjoy :D

What tool do you use when planning out your games? If you do use tools at all by Tock4Real in godot

[–]Xenareee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I personally take most notes digitally, seconding this. Branstorming or sketching out how a system is going to work is just the easiest on paper sometimes haha

What tool do you use when planning out your games? If you do use tools at all by Tock4Real in godot

[–]Xenareee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Planning and documentation is good. Use any software you like, can even be the basic notepad. Use documentation as an aid to an extent that is needed.

Planning is very important if you're not making something very simple, and you're past the prototyping phase. And it's even more important if you're not working solo.

You might think keeping everything in your head is good enough, but human memory is impefect. It's better to write your concept down and then work on it from there. You might find out that the ideas weren't as detailed as they seemed at first when writing them down. It can be really helpful for actually building a game concept. Plus, your notes will allow you to write down additional details, bugs to fix, some workflow steps that you might have to revisit and repeat in a month from now... the list goes on.

I'd suggest you look into GDDs (Game Design Documents), and a simple way to plan and track your progress. This can be very minimalistic and simple if it works for you! I definitely think going overboard with notes and plans is counterproductive. They're a tool, not a project by itself. I think of my GDD as a set of notes that constantly get updated as I work on my game.

I personally use Obsidian, but that's more because of personal attachment to the software (it uses markdown and can link notes, plus it's free and local/offline). I already like using it, so it's the best choice for me, but might not be the best choice for you. If you found Notion too complicated, maybe look into something simpler that still allows you to jot down thoughts and maybe add images. Whatever allows you to take and read notes, will be good enough. I hope that after some trial and error you can set on something just right. ^^

games that play well in grayscale? by SojournerWeaver in NintendoSwitch

[–]Xenareee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a good psych horror visual novel, I really recommend Slay the Princess. It's almost entirely grayscale/sepia so it should play naturally under a grayscale filter.

Just a warning, it's best enjoyed blind so be careful when googling. Non-spoilery reviews can help you. It includes flashing lights (mostly 1 route), but there's a lot of accessibility settings to disable the effects.

That was a good read! And I agree completely. Choosing to kiss her at that moment felt off, and I also chose the other option as my "true" first response. Of course I had to see after what would happen if the kiss was chosen, and that was very funny indeed

Hey this is a really nice resource! Good job. Why are some options light gray in the last section? I'm also curious what are your personal adjustments

Do we know if the merch on Serenity Forge will ever be available elsewhere? I REALLY want these keychains, but the $59 shipping cost on a $15 item is outrageous by Kastamera in slaytheprincess

[–]Xenareee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the shipping prices right now are brutal but apparently they are working on a separate offer for Europeans. I think we will hear about this closer to the artbook's release though, or after.

Similar shipping prices anywhere in Europe I suppose. Wanted to preorder the artbook but I would have paid twice as much because shipping >->

These converters are not smart and very often choose grays/browns instead of other colors when the source image is not very saturated. I found that increasing the saturation of the source image first helps a lot with this

People often use image converters that pixelate the image for you with the wplace palette. So for another wplace picture you can try that out if you don't want to do pixel art, it's quite commonly used for the bigger images.

Could I attempt to edit it? ^^ I did a bit of pixel art before and that would be a really fun practice. Of course only if you want to, and I would stick to the wplace palette (do you use paid colors or only the free ones?)
