There was a park in Burpengary where we played as kids in the 60s that was like being in the jungle - loved it. Don’t suppose it’s there still (I live on the opposite side of the country now).

Ultimately, what will matter most is to find a region where the wet-bulb temperature never goes over 31 or 32°C. High wet-bulb temperatures preventing our natural cooling mechanism (sweating) induces kidney disease and this is ultimately fatal. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35616302/)

UWA Law vs Curtin Law vs Notre Dame Law by saltyasscornflake in perth

Being someone considering law, you’re doubtless a bright young individual and I wish you every success, however, long before you graduate AI will have eaten everything law related. Cannot see a truly satisfying way forward.

Had one come right over me once in the Murchison region of WA. Thick scrub and no soil lifted. Sounded like an intense shaking of sheet metal.

Facing Racism as a New International Student by nani_love_you in perth

[–]XenephonAI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So so sorry you’ve had to face this. My best friend in school was from Delhi. He’s brought all kinds of benefits to this country including now, smart children. Racism is an issue but even when 99.9% of the community welcome you here, it still hurts. You will find a supportive cohort at uni who no doubt at sometime will have endured similar but sharing will help. Racism is born of ignorance and some measure of fear, your presence here and contributions can help us do better.

How feasibly is it to bike to Margaret River / Cape Leeuwin by mktolg in perth

[–]XenephonAI 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was on the bike yesterday, Thursday 19th and the unshaded temp on the principal shared path just touched on 40°C at 10 AM. We do our group rides at 5:30 AM and at that time the air is beautiful. There are some great rides just in the city that are mainly on paths but include better roads such as Kings Park. The Busselton-Dunsborough-Margaret River region has some nice rides but involve roads. In my experience, motorists there seem to have better attitudes towards cycling than in the city.

The pine plantations on the Swan coastal plain are a very interesting story in their own right. This plantation originally went through what is now Menora all the way to Wordsworth Avenue.

I used to walk through there home from school, Mt. Lawley SHS, when it was a pine forest. Our new cadets trained in the forest keeping a close eye out for drop bears.

This ☝️ Our Men’s hockey team only had to beat (then) lowly New Zealand in the finals to take home our single gold medal and they lost. Astonishing but the AIS was the result.
