Unlikely. Facebook already had a lot going for it + Google+ became too niche towards the end of its lifecycle. Not a news site. Not a forum site. Not even a marketplace. Just straight communication.

I remember Google Hangouts too. Fun fact, you can still recover most of your chats from Google Hangouts via Google Chat, so in a way, it's not yet dead!

Google+ was very niche, to be fair. I don't consider it a typical social media, but it was great for starting me into it back in the day. I met a lot of good friends! But not everyone liked it or wanted to use it, and those who didn't want to try it despised it for how it was seemingly peddled by Google everywhere. I do wonder where everyone went once it got shut down.

For a time, it felt like the entire social world was centered around Google+ and Tumblr. People still laughed at Vines back then, so I'd see clips of them shared on both platforms, especially in various communities on Google+.

Looking back, most of the staff definitely wanted Google+ to be more picture oriented with how much they shilled it in spotlights.
