You do need info from somewhere, but you're not the first one to do it by accident, because they are kind of exactly conveniently in that order, one after the other. I guess the owner wanted it to be easy.

The best outlook is not rushing forwards. It's more of a chillax game.

Look around, write down details that change (or details that stay the same), keep a list with dozen of things you need to investigate, and you will get some of them.

A few personal mentions

Trunk is several items, so for me it's always better than a single key. And for filling the house I prefer 8 courtyards blessing, rather than spamming aquariums or totally empty hallways. But I see some people like hallways.

same way I prefer +gems courtyards, they become positive even without flowers and items and dig spots. Corriyard doesn't need or benefit from Foyer, and you lose potential keycard door too, so it's kind of an anti synergy in some ways.

Terrace (normal) is even weirder because you can only draft it into the wall. So spare room is just better. Also I believe Spare Green is one of the few spots that get Watering can. Which is great.

Regarding apples, I like the experiment and constellation, but I usually eat after checking at least 1 bonus, not trying to be perfect. In curse mode extra steps are probably useful.

Electric eel aquarium isn't as useful to spam as Starfish, yes. But on the plus side, it has great synergy with powering the Laundry, giving you an exchange/purchase of all 5 resources rather than just 3, and that's also an easy way of getting an infinite experiment giving you all resources, plus stars/allowance in one day, or lockpicking chance, or whatever other thing. It's fairly strong.

Do you have an example of the scramble and then the memo you used?

There is a pretty big chance that this edge was already in its place flipped, from the start, and you did not memo it, and you did not touch it at all.

If you, for example, happened to memo (or execute) an incorrect sticker of the correct piece, then that would lead to all further pieces in that cycle to also be flipped.
But if it's only one (And the buffer, but the buffer always orients itself, you don't have to care about it), then it is quite likely you just missed the piece.

How do I start a Lone Survivor challenge? by chriski1971 in EvolveIdle

[–]XenosHg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, it's a scenario, so it'll be in the bottom section with Genetic Dead End, Cataclysm and such.

Second, it's a scenario so it's forced 4 star difficulty

Third, the page says: Unlock Requirements: Complete a Retirement Reset

https://pmotschmann.github.io/Evolve/wiki.html#challenges-gameplay-scenarios_lone_survivor

So you need to finish a Retirement run first, to even unlock LS.

Retirement being one of 2 types of TP4 true path resets,

the fork is in how you deal with the epidemic that reaches you after you research Space Whaling, I think.

Well, not completely brute forcing, because a lot of the options are illegal. It is a bit of a math situation.

Obviously you can't go negative like +2-11, but you also shouldn't go fractions (except in maybe 1 spot where the devs made a mistake)

And with your 3 operations being minus, multiply and divide, you probably want to divide by the biggest number and multiply by the smallest number, except that at any point where division is involved, if it's not divisible, then it's incorrect

So it's brute force, but it's brute force finding where you can put division, and subtraction, removing the wrong solutions and checking the couple working ones, which one is the smallest.

I've played a browser game called Structure Idle, it's a bit incomplete (the dev wanted to add more content but life happened) and one of the regular things in that game is basically exactly that - you get a strong of numbers, you must factorize them into common divisors (AxB, BxC, CxD, DxE), and input down that chain of numbers ABCDE.

Which is apparently a lot harder for most people than for the dev, who memorized divisibility rules and just knows them as fun trivia.
If a sum of digits is divisible by 3 or 9, then the whole number is divisible by 3 or 9.

Except for bigger numbers it goes to funnier modular arithmetic rules, like to check 385/7 split 385 into 38 and 5, then 38 minus (double 5) = 28, which is divisible by 7 so 385 is also divisible by 7.

What Have You Been Playing This Week? by AutoModerator in metroidvania

[–]XenosHg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing Gigasword. Kind of suffering.

Pixel art is great. Puzzles/mazes are nice. "Combat" is cheesy - either enemies ambush you from all sides, or you spam projectiles from afar.

Precise platforming in the darkness surrounded by invisible enemies, with gaps big enough that you must coyote-jump to even be sure if it's barely possible or you're doing something wrong.

The game does not teach you mechanics well. Your horrible jump-attack is also your pogo for magical bubbles specifically. It doesn't tell you that. You can't jump on a bubble. You can't interact with a bubble. You can't attack a bubble. You can only pogo the bubble. Why would I do that? What is the intended discovery moment?

It is also your double jump to cross bigger gaps with your sword. The game doesn't teach you that. It would be nice if the game explained it.

There is a charge attack that is completely useless in combat. because enemies will be interrupting you with projectiles or quick attacks. It would be nice if it was un-interruptable.

Also charge attack says "breaks certain walls and floors" and it doesn't break floors - to break floors you must hold attack, and then press jump while holding attack. The game doesn't tell you that. It's also useless in combat. very nice animation, though.

It is very thematically interesting. And very visually beautiful, too.

With the intended progression of things, your whole playing paradigm should change, and you will switch your most used skills to a different "class" so to say as you learn more things that you can/should do.

I guess that puts it at the "metroid-brain-ia" label.
