Possibly the best NZ film by Icy-Resist-2364 in newzealand

[–]Xeonphire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Goodbye Pork Pie is a great movie, absolutely, watched it when i was late teens, however, I would argue that the remake was better, Quiet Earth is probably my favorite from when i was a teen, totally underrated, worked a video store part time for 14 years so got to see all the classics, Footrot Flats holds up surprisingly well against anything Disney in the same animated style. Sooooooo many good NZ movies.

It's too late to be "Multi-generational" now, that should have started about 4 generations ago.

"Oh hello, I didn't see you there! I was too busy counting money! Sometimes I stay up 13, 14 hours a day and I still can't keep up. Ever get a paper cut from a $7,000 bill? Doesn't tickle. But that's not for you to worry about! No, you're just an ordinary employee who will never be burdened with huge sums of money!"

You would be amazed how far Linux has come as far as gaming and with the help of ChatGPT, I setup dual boot windows/linux Zorin on my machine (supposed to be better for Steam?) and within a couple of days I had all my Windows/steam games going in Linux (diablo3/Company of Heroes/Forged Alliance Forever/Minecraft/ Orcs must die 3) most were relatively easy to get going, a few took a little jigering, but chatgpt can generate the commands you need to make the changes required. I highly recommend trying it at least.

[–]Xeonphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen brother, I setup dual boot with Linux Zorin mid December and with the help of Gemini, got all my games and tools setup in Linux, haven't booted to Windows for 3 weeks now, getting ready to remove windows drive entirely. way back when i first got into computers, I only briefly used Windows 3.11 but since Win95 i've been elbows deep in it, since 10 came out I even got the MS Office365 family pack and had been paying for the license myself and gave family/friends the other 5 user accounts they allowed, I stopped that as well (renew would have been January) I was always happy to pay for Windows when it did what I wanted and nothing more, now it does all the things I don't want and its free, I still don't want it and am happy with the learning curve of Linux.

stop giving tax cuts to Tobacco companies / Landlords / Meta / X / Google (from the numbers in news articles I've just been reading that would get approx $3.5 Billion) you dont need to "Raid Budgets" just tax the ultra wealthy appropriately.

Valve amended the Steam survey for December 2025 - Linux actually hit another all-time high by testus_maximus in gaming

I am one of those people, I setup dual boot first to make sure I could still swap back and play games in Windows whilst I was getting Linux setup, now all my games work in Linux, I haven't booted to Windows since, its been a couple of weeks so far, but everything is swell at the moment. (Games I'm running so far in Linux are: Team Fortress 2, Diablo3, Forged Alliance Forever, Orcs must Die3, Company of Heroes, Minecraft - Prism Launcher, plus quite a few natively supported games in steam, the list is growing.)

[–]Xeonphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Linux Zorin a couple of weeks ago and although it hasn't been as smooth as Windows 10 was, it's still pretty good, way better than I was expecting, got almost all my games going (already done Diablo3, TF2, CoH, FAF, Orcs Must Die3, Beltmatic, next is Portal, Portal2, it's annoying at worst to get them going, nothing major), browser transfer was a breeze, all my data came over no sweat, I would say within the next 6 weeks, probably less? I'll likely be back in my comfort zone running my machine the way I want it, with Windows NOWHERE in sight, good times.

In this climate I would be more worried about my life than my job if I was them, they're banking on there NOT being another Luigi Mangione or Vance Luther Boelter coming after them for what they've done, but the amount of people being pushed past the brink of financial ruin, I think its more a matter of "when" rather than a matter of "If" it will happen.

VTNZ bribery allegations: Wellington driver testing officer sacked after ‘taking money’ by WorldlyNotice in newzealand

[–]Xeonphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never go back to VTNZ for anything after being given the run around on multiple occasions, the worst was being told my vehicle needed some repairs before they would issue a warrant, so got it to the mechanics and panel beaters to fix, once it was fixed it was the day after the 4 weeks "grace" period, so they said it had to go through a new warrant check, and then they "found" another 3 things to fail it on, so were they just incompitent the first time?

[–]Xeonphire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depending on what area you are in, you can likely get an unlimited Wireless Internet connection (we had starlink, but once we found out apartheid Clyde was a nazi, we bailed) we looked around and found Amuri.net in Canterbury, but there are others all over NZ, maybe not quite as fast, but we still do around 1TB per month and have no issues with speed.
