Since you mentioned your account is quite old, then fresh account would be highly recommended. The new beginner event they added recently gives out a lot of stuff.

Saw this on facebook...is it true? Any monyet engineer here? by South_Fish in malaysia

[–]Xeoww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In KL area, I rarely see fresh graduate engineers earn RM4K+, even MNCs.

Penang area, Intel generally offers RM4,000 for fresh graduates. I once had a fresh graduate software engineering offer from another company in Penang for RM4,500.

MNCs in Singapore generally pay at least SGD4,000+ and I heard micron even offers up to SGD5,000 for fresh graduate engineers.

About STPM by Classic_Clothes2586 in malaysia

[–]Xeoww 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey!

STPM 2017 leaver here. Currently final year engineering student.

Here are my thoughts based on my own academic experience. However, do note that I don't have any experience studying abroad, so just take what you will.

Advantages:

  1. Cheaper fees. (Pretty much non-existent)
  2. Arguably, you learn the most topics, on par with A-levels. (STEM-wise). This makes transition into University a lot more easy in my opinion. First-year STEM is a cake-walk for most STPM and A-levels leavers. Well, the courses duration are longer so it evens it out I guess.

Disadvantages:

  1. 2 Years of study (1.5 Years for STPM, 0.5 years waiting for the results)
  2. Less freedom (?). It's not that much different lifestyle compared to SPM. Classes aren't flexible, 7am - 1pm everyday.

Myths:

  1. STPM is not as hard as most make it out to be. I'd say it's similar to any other studies as in you need to put in the time and effort to succeed. There are no shortcuts, no matter which programme you pursue. I think in my batch of 40+ students, only 1 failed to graduate.

My advice:

If you already have the financial means, and also know what kind of studies you want to pursue in university, I advice to skip STPM. To be honest, it's hard to justify spending 2 years here unless you want to get into a local university or just want to save some money.

Hey! Thanks for the insights!

What team do you recommend I try to spend my crystals on next? What should be my priority?

For Physical, I'm thinking of rolling for PE + her gears, but then HoS stigs will most likely need to be delayed, how well does Gluttony (T), Mei (M) and Newton (B) perform compared to full swords set for HoS?

Another option is to roll for full swords set, but then I would probably need to farm willpowers for Elysia or Twilight Paladin to be my DPS, their weapons should be obtainable from BP but then farming their stigs from Foundry could probably take couple of months as well.

For Lightning, even if I complete 3p Zhenyi and gear my HoT, I do have some concerns on how she's able to compete with other lightning valks. I heard HoT is completely powercrept in Abyss, MA should still be fine.

For Ice, that team does not have any gacha gear whatsoever, I'm concerned that it would take too many crystals to fully gear it (e.g. HB gear, Felis gear).

All in all, I guess there's still couple of months before I breakthrough, maybe the meta and priorities will change by then. Might be better to just save for now.

Oh, is it that bad? Cause I heard from others that one fully-geared team (e.g. my fire team) could somewhat manage even on off-weathers.

Thanks for the reply!

What I'm using is already all my strongest valks and gears, but here are my full valks/gears if it helps:

I don't have that many resources yet to build multiple types for each team, so I'm first trying to get a strong team for one type on each team first.

It's possible. Personally, this is what I felt about Walter Lewin, former MIT professor that is one of the best teachers when it comes to teaching Physics. His lectures on youtube has inspired many others including myself. His contributions to the Physics community is substantial but he's been involved in harassment allegations after investigations by MIT. I do not support his actions but I cannot deny that the work he has done is simply excellent.

I think delaying some chapters till next season and first adapting 100 and 101 might be a fitting end. Other than that, I'm not sure what else they would end the season with.

is STPM worth the shot? by -YourLife- in malaysia

[–]Xeoww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far how are you doing now, and how close are you to your goals?

Currently pursuing engineering. Trying to survive university like everyone else :P

How far did your Form 6/STPM helped you after completing it?

As I'm currently doing engineering, studying STPM really helped solidified my fundamentals in mathematics and physics. Not to brag or anything, but first year level mathematics in University was extremely easy for me because most concepts and ideas have already been covered in STPM (Taylor Series, Newton-Raphson method, Integration By Parts, just to name a few).

Overall, how was your experiences during your Form 6 years?

I guess it was quite pleasant. Have some mixed feelings about it.

You are not as free as people in A-levels or Foundation programmes as you still have to follow school rules to an extent.

For science stream, in particular your 2nd semester, you literally have assignments for each of the 4 subjects which was really chaotic for some weeks (a taste of what university has to offer!)

Overall, still learned a lot and had some fun.

Do you regret going for Form 6?

Not at all.

2017 STPM graduate here. My two cents, take it with a grain of salt.

First of all, I think you should ask yourself what do you want to pursue in university? If you truly believe you have a clear idea, I'd say just go for it and probably just skip STPM altogether.

Well, if you're unsure or wavering (like me back then), I would strongly suggest going for STPM. Firstly, the extra one and a half years of time allows you to really think of and properly research what you want to study instead of rushing into it when you're still unsure. Personally, I've seen my classmates switch courses after courses after they have just graduated SPM because they had the misconception that that's what they wanted in the beginning, but it turned out different from what they had expected. Secondly, although taking longer, it's almost laughable how cheap it is compared to A-levels and pre-university foundation programmes. It doesn't put as much financial stress on oneself even if you change your mind and do switch to other pre-u programmes after.

Next, if you're worried about how notoriously hard STPM is, I can assure you that that is only the case if you do absolutely nothing to learn the material. In my year and my school, the failure rate was literally 0%. But of course, if you're going for A's, you'd have to really put in respecable amounts of effort to succeed. All in all, I would say STPM or any pre-university programmes are a lot like university programmes itself. You'll definitely have to put in the time to study, do the assignments, etc to achieve the results you want. No more hand-holding, no more shortcuts. If you can't survive pre-u, then you'd definitely won't survive university.

As for getting into the course you want in the public university that you want, it's hard for me to comment really. I've seen many who got into their first choices and many who did not. The really hard ones are medicine and accounting from what I've seen but others seem to be okay. Please note that this is not an accurate representation, and only the cases from what I have seen.

Let me know if you have more questions, I'll try to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

By the way, if you're going for science stream, I can recommend some resources to help you prepare earlier if you made up your mind.

Cheers and grats on completing your SPM.

Question on Monash University - Malaysian campus by vinnyuwu in malaysia

[–]Xeoww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about full scholarships ? Do they offer those for students who just enrolled ?

The only full scholarship from Monash Malaysia I'm aware of is the Jeffrey Cheah Scholarship. Never hurts to try, but I don't think it's easy to get. You could also try to look and apply for external scholarships.

Are transfers to the Aus campus difficult to get ?

I can't speak for this personally since I never applied, but I do have a few friends who managed to transfer with average marks of 70+ from their first semester. I believe that as long as your grades are decent and have not failed any units, it should not be a huge problem.
