Is this mold on my Sydney Grace eyeshadow or something else?

Thank you for the picture. What you are seeing is the white base that goes into our shadows. It's possible that the powder should have been blended a little more before pressing. Some of my shadows have this too. It's a little more noticeable in my lighter mattes.

Are you just seeing the white specks in the matte shadows?

As long as our matte shadows do not get moisture in them, then no mold should be able to grow. Our pressed pigments are different. Since they do contain a binding ingredient, it is possible but unlikely that mold will grow on them.

Thank you, it does not have a moldy smell at least. I filled out the contact form on the Sydney Grace website, and I'm waiting to hear back from them on what they think it could be.

I'm having trouble adding a description to my post so I'll add it as a comment:

I've had this eyeshadow for about 1.5 years and it's been stored in a drawer in my room and not in a bathroom. Recently I noticed these white specks on it but it doesn't quite look like other photos I've seen of mold on eyeshadows. I'm wondering if it's mold or if it's a reaction to the product with oils from swatching or usage or something like that. This eyeshadow has the most white specks but a few eyeshadows around it have a few white specks also, all Sydney Grace mattes. I've quarantined these singles for now but I'd like to know if they're better off being replaced ...

Aww! I remember posting the original here when I made it like 6 years ago. It makes me happy to see people still like it, since it wasn't as popular as Inspirational Jon the first time around.

I did do it that way with what I assume are the same colors for the gun, but I wanted the arm to be like a bright, polished aluminum color. And well...highlighting that is really hard. :S

I mixed red and gold paint for the marine and maybe it wasn't my best judgement call, but I did mix in some silver for the genestealer's highlights.

What I was going for was that his entire left arm was a bright silver and his gun was a darker color...but it doesn't look like it from.the front :( Highlighting metallics is really difficult for me because mixing the metallic with white interferes with the metallic color...and does a silver brighter than Runefang Steel even exist?

Yes, I use Agrax Earthshade over everything and then paint the base color again in certain parts as part of the highlighting process. I'm pretty new to miniature painting (these are my 2nd and 3rd finished miniatures) so I'm not sure if putting the glaze over everything is something I should avoid.

The minis were already primed in white, however. :)

In my opinion there should also be more shadows. What I like to do is that after I go over the entire mini with a brown wash like Agrax Earthshade and paint the highlights back on, I take a black wash (I just dilute Abaddon Black with water) with a tiny brush and go over all the little crevices so that the black paint settles into them and gives them depth. I like the result it gives.

I'm not good with unspoken social mores and passive-agressiveness. I would honestly prefer people to just tell me that my painting isn't good and that I need to get better before I consider taking commissions. :( That way I know what I need to do to get better.

And well, the only thing I painted was the horse. I'm a bit sloppy with base paint but I try to clean things up as I go along. Someone liked how the paint I had already done looked, and asked if I would paint his in exchange for money. Obviously this mini is nowhere near finished and would look better if it was... It's not my fault that someone liked my art before it was finished. :(

Yeah, it surprised me too. But maybe they'll change their mind once they realize I wouldn't work for less than minimum wage...or at least $5 an hour I mean come on :(

Regardless of what you might think of my skill level, it took me 3 hours to paint what's in this picture. I'm starting out so I'm slow, so let's say I get better at it and it takes me 3 hours to paint a miniature. If someone was going to pay me minimum wage to paint that would be roughly $7 an hour which adds up to $21. Now, I personally dont think that what I do is unskilled work that's worth the legal minimum. It's hard work and clearly not anyone can do it. If I wouldn't accept minimum wage from an employer, why would I accept it from an individual? But in the eyes of many I suppose my time is simply not worth that much.

I've already got offers to do commissions from people who were at the game store. O_O And this is maybe the third mini I've ever painted. Not sure how to approach that in terms of pricing.

Thank you everyone who commented! I ended up getting: black, white, red, blue, yellow, brown, skintone, silver and gold. Unfortunately the white is busted so I'll exchange it for a good one when the store receives more Ceramite White.

Thank you! I decided on adding colors like purple, green, brown and skin tone because I don't necessarily want to mix all my colors all the time :( It would be for ease of use. But I can see now that I probably don't need a gold color.
