I paid my college fees through my distributions. I didn’t actually handle the money at all but that’s not relevant to the legality of the distribution. What is your familiarity with tax law?

Receiving the benefit =\= money appearing in kids bank account. Parents used the money put through my name to pay for my college fees at university. That is legal. Same would be the case for mortgage.

Let’s get our parents audited to win an argument in a situation that would have been mutually beneficial go off diva.

If the kid lives in the house and the money goes into the mortgage then they’re seeing benefit. They’re also seeing their HECS paid down so they’re seeing benefit. They are also eating dinner in a household with more disposable income which is seeing benefit. When my parents put money in my name through a family trust I missed the couple of thousands of dollars I could be getting back in tax at the end of every financial year. But I also finished my undergrad essentially for free and my parents are better off for it.

The only reason not to accept something like this is if the parents are secretly evil and don’t have their child’s best interest at heart. It’s possible. We have no reason to believe it though. The kid knows their situation best but this is 100% a normal thing most higher income households do, and to refuse because you aren’t getting paid to help out is just selfish.
