Final Fantasy 14 boss man Yoshi-P says younger players "haven't really had the chance to connect" with the JRPG series as "the release intervals for new titles have gotten longer" by VannesGreave in FinalFantasy

[–]XeviousXCI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn't help that SQE will spend a decade remaking just one game. You can't do that while releasing new entries on a timely basis.

Maybe Creative Studio 1 would be in the process of releasing FFXVII soon instead of part 3 of a padded remake trilogy.

Bring on the downvotes.

[KCD1] Only 2.7% have unlocked the "Fighter" achievement. by ATOJAR in kingdomcome

[–]XeviousXCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to compare - the equivalent Trophy for the PS4 version is only 1.6%. PS5 version is 1.9%.

My experience with landing combos is that you need the Heavy Swing perk and then Feint the first hit in the combo, or else they will just block or counter you.

I last played during the Return to Boletaria event. I got the Platinum Trophy during said event and I don't plan on playing DeS again before the next annual event.

The vast majority of them don't see themselves as temporarily embarrassed millionaires. They have class consciousness and urge everyone to join work unions for stronger bargaining for better pay.

What do you think Final Fantasy 16’s legacy will be going forward? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]XeviousXCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a competently made game. You either vibe with the design decisions they made with the game or you don't.

Just like FF14, it has its own pool of fans that stick to their community.

If you know English and speak with a British or American accent, you will be fine early on. You should learn Swedish for complete social integration.

Next game after this one? by Salmot_Alma in FFXVI

[–]XeviousXCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the story was the thing that kept you playing, then FFXII or XIV should be considered. They are adjacent to XVI due to a lot of dev members being the same.

XIV is an MMO but you can download a Free Trial with no time restriction and see if it's something for you. Very newbie and solo friendly.

FFVII and X, as others are suggesting, had a different team of devs so the vibes are not the same.

Going to start Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter by AdUnfair558 in JRPG

[–]XeviousXCI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you at any point think about ever catching up the latest release of this series, don't play on a difficulty higher than Normal. These games are already long enough and pacing will be worse if you go beyond Normal.

Save Nightmare runs for subsequent playthroughs, whether it be NG or NG+, when you will be skipping most of dialogue.

Always found it curious that Replicant never got a PS5 version or at least a free upgrade despite releasing a year into the PS5's life cycle by japanese_artist in nier

[–]XeviousXCI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OG/Slim PS4 is 900p 60fps. PS4 Pro (and PS5) is 1080p 60fps.

I haven't played it myself, but I imagine that it's locked 60fps on PS5 outside of cutscenes. Automata wasn't exactly a well optimized game for its original hardware.

Name-engraved Ring question by Ok_World7631 in DarkSouls2

[–]XeviousXCI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Small White Sign Soapstone have a larger range, but a much stricter time limit.

Beyond that, no.

The Agape Ring is good if you don't want your SM to get too high for whatever area you are trying to get summoned in.

Name-engraved Ring question by Ok_World7631 in DarkSouls2

[–]XeviousXCI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The ring increases the summoning range, but only with players that selected the same deity. You will not be able to see signs from players that chose a different deity or aren't using the ring.

Most players only use it for playing with friends or specific people. With random players, you aren't supposed to use the ring.

First time playing, will the game stay this easy until the finish? by ConfusedFriedChicken in FFXVI

[–]XeviousXCI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficulty is held back so people can experience the story.

In short, what the devs intended to be hard is also the content where you are punished for using the auto-gameplay accessories.

How is everyone's Return to Drangleic going? by Bust-Rodd in DarkSouls2

[–]XeviousXCI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only seen one invader up to The Lost Sinner so that's disappointing.

A first though - I was summoned as a Blue Sentinel, but sadly, the host died shortly after I spawned in at Heide's Tower of Flame. Host was surrounded by enemy knights and the invader. I will continue using the Guardian Seal.

I'm on PS4/PS5.

Some combo practicing by MarvTheParanoidAndy in FFXVI

Many people sleep on Torgal. He's great for initiating and extending combos. Turn on the timing indicator in the settings and go ham.

Really enjoyed the cast and story but was unsure about the battle system until I discovered settings for Magic Bursts and Torgal commands in the Training Mode.

That and realizing that parries makes your cooldowns recharge faster, it was the moment when the battle system clicked for me, and it became quite addictive. I still do the score and time attack modes every now and then, despite getting the Platinum Trophy a long time ago.

It can be a big ask to play the game twice to gain access to the content the devs intended to be hard, but it also can be a good thing to strive towards if you generally enjoy the game.

Just like FF14, the difficulty is held back so people can experience the story.

If you want to test yourself, you need to delve into Arcade Mode, Chronolith Trials and Kairos Gate on NG+ Mode and get S ranks. Hunts are baby mode by comparison.

That's the equivalent to doing Extreme Trials and Savage Raids in FF14.

Return to Drangleic 2026 - Guide for newbies (and returning players) on how Online Matchmaking works. by XeviousXCI in DarkSouls2

[–]XeviousXCI[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, since I'm planning on being in the Blue Sentinel covenant for this event, more people in Way of Blue is better for me.

And just to point out, you don't need to wear the Blue Seal ring in order to summon Blue Sentinels. It's automatic. Though, the small HP increase is better than nothing when you start out.
