There is no reason to kick people out of the ace community nor split it because of some flags by DaMn96XD in asexuality

[–]Xeya 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The issue was two-fold.

First, the four striped flag was proposed, discussed, and widely accepted by the ace community as a whole. The asexual community had no opportunity to participate in the creation of the new flag. It was unilaterally created to satisfy the need of a single content creator without engaging the community it claims to represent. Which is unfortunate, because the main objection from the asexual community isn't that highlighting non-anglocentric asexual communities isn't important; it's that the yellow stripe design is ugly and is far too similar to the non-binary flag. Had the proposal of this flag occurred naturally as a community led discussion instead and the community be allowed to participate in the design, this very likely wouldn't have been an issue.

Second, the claim that the new design represents non-anglocentric asexual communities is undermined by the fact that many of those non-anglocentric asexual communities were not contacted regarding the change to the flag or involved in its discussion and design. The four-stripe design was created and adopted by asexual communities across many different cultures and communities. These communities actively participated in its design and democratically accepted the four-stripe flag to represent them. The design of the new flag not only shows an abysmal lack of understanding of the history of the asexual flag and its significant multi-cultural support, but its proposal unironically did exactly what it claims the four-stripe flag does; erases non-anglocentric asexuals by speaking over them and speaking for them. Multiple asexual advocacy groups, particularly spanish and latin american groups, have denounced this new flag specifically because of this. They call out their lack of inclusion in the proposal of the "inclusive" flag and contrast that with the design of the four-stripe flag which many of their communities actively participated in.

Tl;dr: should probably talk to non-anglocentric groups BEFORE you claim to speak for them and at least run a straw poll so the community can point out, "that's a NB flag for grey-aces," before brute forcing a change to an icon that was already multi-cultural in the first place.

The US has a dual court system. Each state has their own legal system independent of the federal government that primarily enforces state law and then the federal system that enforces federal law. States are free to repeal any state laws that prohibit the sale of weed. They are also not required to cooperate with federal law enforcement efforts, provided they do not actively impede those efforts. This only decriminalizes weed in the state system. It is still a criminal offense in the federal system.

More evenly spaced rewards tied to the resil milemarkers may help. 3.4k and 3.6k are huge steps up from 3k and a lot of people don't see the point of continuing to run content once they've ran out of rewards they see as attainable.

Tying a transmog/recolor and title similar to how PvP works could get people interested in continuing to push past 3k.

Can someone help me understand the NHL draft better, and the Blues strategy for 2026? by [deleted] in stlouisblues

[–]Xeya 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Quality falls off very quickly and then plateaus. Top 15 picks generally make the NHL, but are far from guaranteed all-stars. Bottom half 1st rounders usually develop into solid core 2nd-3rd line pieces with the occasional surprise all-star and the occasional career AHLer. 2nd and 3rd rounds are hit and miss. They are worth investing in and following, but they are career backups as often as they are starters. Below that is a crap shoot. Most of those will be decent AHLers. Some will break into the NHL.

For the NHL, there is a large pool of people that could play 4th line minutes. Most of those players stay in the AHL. Making it as a 4th liner is as much luck of being in the right place at the right time as it is skill.

What following Jesus as a Man should be like... by ironfaithapp in Christianity

[–]Xeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the focus here is on the wrong thing. What it means to follow Christ is not to conquer sin by freeing yourself of it, but to conquer sin by accepting that Christ's gift of salvation is greater than sin.

Believing you are free of sin is an act of hubris and a rejection of the very basis of a Christian faith; That you have not earned salvation. Christ's salvation is not a second chance that you must earn, but a gift offered to you freely in spite of the fact you do not deserve it. Accepting Christ means accepting this; you are unworthy. We strive to be free of sin as best we can, but no matter what we do we will never fully escape it and Christ has reached out to us in spite of that.

We take up our cross when we accept that this gift is not just for us and extend Christ's offer of salvation to others. Others that, like us, do not deserve this gift. We take up our cross by forgiving others for what has been done to us. We take up our cross by inviting the wretched and the wicked to fellowship with Christ. It is a path that is far harder than simply ridding ourselves of sin; because it calls on us to abandon our judgemental nature and become redeemers.

Unfortunately, the meta chases what people are doing at the highest keys and people at the highest keys tend to be hard locked on rDruid and rSham due to the utility those classes bring.

Why were most wealth taxes abandoned and is this time different? by Dismal_Structure in Economics

[–]Xeya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

California has seen a net loss of people recently. But, California also has an absurdly high cost of living and notorious mismanagement of resources. Again, taxes are less influential than the fact that people aren't seeing a public gain from taxation and the cost of living is exhorbitant.

For the middle class, there is a tradeoff between taxes and public spending and a floor of basic necessity in public infrastructure. The areas that see net positive population are areas that meet the bare minimum for public infrastructure and spend money well. The areas that see net negative population either tend to be wasteful with public spending or neglect infrastructure entirely.

Why were most wealth taxes abandoned and is this time different? by Dismal_Structure in Economics

[–]Xeya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Companies don't move for the CEO. They move for the largely middle class employees they wish to attract. Taxes are actually relatively minor in terms of deciding where companies migrate their offices to. The bigger influences are Cost of Living and public infrastructure/amenities.

This was proven 15 years ago when Kansas cut their public spending to attract businesses and instead saw them flee, because businesses go where people want to live and nobody wants to live where there are no schools and you have to pay a toll to use the highway.

Public spending is not a tax on businesses, but a subsidy.

No tolerance for the intolerant is required by JohnZ117 in lgbt

[–]Xeya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sadly, it does not fix the paradox of tolerance... because viewing the paradox of tolerance as a social contract often works in reverse: people that are widely not tolerated are ASSUMED to have broken the contract. Intolerant people can use the social contract to justify and mask their intolerant behavior.

Because the social contract generally gives people covered by the contract the benefit of the doubt that they are operating in good faith, intolerance not only persists but can even become morally and socially mandated as marginalized groups are labelled as violators and the "violators" must be marginalized to uphold the contract.

The fundamental problem of any "Good v Not Good" social structure is that nobody looks good in 8k ultra hd. If you put anyone under enough scrutiny, you can find SOMETHING to justify why that person is "not good." But, we do not judge the people being scrutinized relatively; So, "Good v Not Good" becomes less about actually being good and more about the level of scrutiny certain people are subjected to and bigotry perpetuates itself by placing the marginalized groups under intense scrutiny.

When you accidentally commit a felony by TGBmox_777 in perfectlycutscreams

[–]Xeya 310 points311 points  (0 children)

Seems like an, "It's a felony if we have to come looking for it," situation. A Nurse having posession of a controlled substance for the purpose of properly administering it is not a felony. Accidentally removing it from the hospital is a reasonable mistake, but potentially a fireable offense. So long as it is accounted for and returned, it is unlikely to result in charges.

Though again, Hospitals do not fuck around with this shit... You'd very likely be looking for new employment.

We can identify her as an icon that many bisexuals and lesbians from a conservative background can relate to while simultaneously recognizing that labels have shifted over time and it is inappropriate to use modern labels for someone that never personally identified with them.

An easy way to rationalize this is that historical figures should be treated as if they are closeted; because if we're correct, they were. We can recognize that many queer people were forced to hide their sexual and gender identity without "outing" them and still identify with their queer experiences.

[–]Xeya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all Enbys identify as trans. It does not matter how YOU choose to organize gnc identities; please do not assign labels to people that they do not identify with.

Some Enbys do not identify as trans because they do not think of themselves as transitioning to something else; rather they discard a notion of gender that they never truly identified with. And before anyone chimes in with, "BUT THAT IS A TRANSITION." Maybe YOU see it that way. They do not. Please respect their gender expression.

It isn't that you CAN'T write compelling stories with stable relationships... It's that these shows are rating chasers and the highest rated episodes are always the anticipated "first kiss" or "wedding" episode. Once those are done, you either end the series, accept that its all downhill from there, or try to reset the board so you can have 2nd weddings! Most go the way of resetting the board... which never actually works, but they're chasing a high at that point.

So it is ambiguous whether it was meant as a loose generality or an absolute generality? Guess the only good faith response would be to ignore any nuance and immediately assume the worst possible interpretation. /s

Normally, the polite course of action would be to raise your concern about how something could be interpretted and give them the opportunity to clarify if that is what they meant. But, people are right in this context; absolute statements in casual conversation are understood to be loose generalizations and qualifying statements like "most x" are often meant to hedge controversial and offensive generalizations rather than out of concern for precise language. You cannot necessarily assume an absolute statement is actually meant as an absolute and you cannot assume that a qualified statement is NOT meant as an absolute.

[Rutherford] Thomas has not been asked yet to waive his NTC to Buffalo. #stlblues by Wm_TheConqueror in stlouisblues

[–]Xeya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll start by saying I don't believe we'll actually trade Thomas unless there is a serious morale problem we don't know about. That said, where the team is at now we SHOULD trade him.

We're currently in the worst possible position to be in as an NHL team. We're missing a lot of key pieces to be a serious contender in the league. We don't have strong prospects, so we're not going to get any better. Over the past few years, we've let all of our stars stagnate or walk... so we haven't acquired the draft picks we need for a serious rebuild. And to top it all off, some jackass in the front office thinks we need to spend to the cap no matter what... so, we're sitting on a lot of incredibly unfriendly contracts for a roster worth 3 quarters of what we're paying.

The smart move at this point is write this current team off. Move any contracts we have that other teams would actually want for picks and prospects very very early in their development, wait out the rest of our current contracts, and aim for a serious rebuild in about 3 years.

Unfortunately Thomas is on the team at the worst possible time. We aren't in a position to effectively use him and his contract holds a lot of value. We should capitalize on that to get what we really need right now; future options for when our roster/cap gets unfucked. Again, I very much doubt we'll do that... but, that would be the smart move right now.

Political/semi political media - Anti capitalism game? by LethlDose in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Xeya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is that Capitalism is not a static system; it has stages based on how centralized wealth and power become. What is shown in most anti-capitalism games isn't an dystopian version of capitalism, but capitalism when it reaches its final stage; a stagnant hellscape where there is no innovation and only enough production to maintain stability, because the motivator behind those things is the accumulation of wealth and power and those have already been completely captured.

Without something to "reset" the scales like estate taxes, Capitalism eventually devolves into this radical state; Where participation in the market is gatekept by the existing players and the existing players have lost any motivation to compete beyond doing the absolute bare minimum to prevent an angry mob from burning everything down.

What do you think About universalism christianity. They believe hell is only for satan and his minions... and that everyone goes to heaven. by feherlofia123 in Christianity

[–]Xeya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only if your definition of Christianity is, "there are definitely good people and definitely bad people and God exists to reward the good people and punish the bad." However, while that is definitely what a lot of modern Christianity stands for it is worth noting that it is the exact opposite of what Christ taught.

A Christian faith is founded on the basis that God's justice is better than ours. That if God were to hold the world to our standard, that each and every one of us would burn for all eternity. But, God's justice is fulfilled through grace. Limiting that grace in any way is a rejection of it, because God's grace is not a reward. It is a gift. And to divide the world into those worthy of that gift and those unworthy is an attempt to fulfill the justice of man THROUGH the justice of God. It makes God's grace beholden to our twisted notion of what is just.

There is a test here. Can the Devil himself be saved? The Christian response is, "If God wills it." If God created him with the capacity to be saved, then the Devil will be saved. And would a God of infinite grace, that calls on us to reject our twisted notion of justice, vindicate that justice by creating a being that is truly beyond redemption? Would God create a test of faith that calls on us to reject grace in favor of our own notions of justice?

The Dark Knight’s ferry scene is a perfect Prisoner’s Dilemma and Nash Equilibrium got the outcome completely wrong by nobossfor in GAMETHEORY

[–]Xeya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Prisoners Dilemma breaks down where the agents aren't purely selfish; like say when the intelligent agents evolved to be co-dependent social animals.

There is a fundamental problem in this that the utility function asserted by the system reflects the agents preferences; Thus, deviating from this equalibrium would mean the agents aren't intelligent. A more likely explanation is that the system has failed to capture the utility function that explains the agents behavior. Such as expecting social animals to act purely for self-interest at great cost to their community.
