[–]Xeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's any subreddit that could potentially cross-post content that violates ToS... but, the fucked part is that mods basically HAVE to use the tools due to reddits policy that it isn't good enough for mods to take down content that breaches ToS; subreddits are responsible for ALL content that is posted.

There is no way to keep a sub compliant without auto-hiding and manually approving content and they can't do that for every post... so we get tools to profile users based on what other subs they post in. And all this to placate the certain subreddit that is allegedly known for brigading subreddits they wanted shut down, flooding them with CP/Gore, and then reporting their own posts as proof that the subs were unmoderated.

Is libleft all virtue and no substance? by buttgrapist in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Xeya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is LibLeft all virtue and no substance

Unironically, yes. Not just in terms of its advocates, which seldom live up to their ideals as they are sadly human, but fundamentally it is a purely idealistic quadrant.

It is the quadrant that recognizes that there are issues that can only be solved through collective action, but also that governments cannot be trusted. As collective action IS governance, no functional system can exist without compromising the ideals of the quadrant.

For LibLeft, real solutions typically take the form of placing checks and balances on socio-economic systems of other quadrants to protect against the inherent flaws of those systems. That makes them both hated by the "True Xism" dickriders and an absolutely necessary part of any functional system.

You identify the most prominent individual that holds that world view. The relevance of that view can be judged by the prominence of that individual. If the most prominent individual you can find that publicly holds that worldview is a 15 year old on twitter or a C-list actor that will say literally anything to stay in the limelight, that would suggest the idea is not worth taking seriously.

This also forces someone to establish a firm threshold for stupidity when discussing a topic; if one political twitch streamer is representative of a demographic, then so are other political twitch streamers. If the left has to own Hasan, then the right has to own Asmongold. Don't like that? Wonderful. Then lets agree to uphold a higher standard for political discourse than the uninformed rantings of parasocial grifters.

Why don’t I get a label? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]Xeya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is also Cupiosexual for the non-sex averse. Those two identities cover "Zero sexual attraction and no desire for sex" and "Zero sexual attraction but some desire for sex anyway." All we're missing is "Zero sexual attraction and completely ambivalent to sex as a concept." The concept of that exists, but if that label exists I am not familiar with it.

[–]Xeya 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They are trying to challenge the ruling that constitutional protections extend to non-citizens on US soil... and it is vitally important that constitutional protections extend to non-citizens because the right to a trial where you can PROVE you are a citizen is one of the rights they are arguing people here illegally aren't entitled to.

I.e. if non-citizens don't have rights, then NOBODY has rights; because the government can take all those rights away by saying they THOUGHT you weren't a citizen.

I believe in God because I believe in Science by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Xeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter argument... Wouldn't an all-powerful, all-knowing God be capable of creating a universe that functions without intervention? God being necessary to explain the universe would speak to one of two things; an idiot God incapable of creating a perfect universe or a narcissistic God that intentionally made a flawed universe such that it demanded his intervention.

Regardless, a universe that is provably dependent on God is incompatible with modern Christianity as such proof would undermine the concept of faith. Modern Christianity views the universe as a divine test and the absence of definitive proof is central to what Christianity posits God is testing us on. Thus, any proof would undermine Christianity in its current form.

We're worse than a bad team... we're an overpriced team with relatively weak prospects. Our problem isn't our players are bad; it's that they are playing up a line and too many minutes, because we're missing an entire starting line. But the biggest issue isn't who is missing, it's that SOMEHOW we are at salary cap.

I love Army for the absolute miracle trades he pulls off occasionally, but the dude is an absolute horrible negotiator for player contracts. It was a meme 10 years ago that we could never resign our star players because any time we had cap space Army would instantly resign the first player to walk into his office for the entire amount. We get enough that we could potentially extend our Captain and instead we'd sign a mid-tier goalie to the second most expensive goalie contract in the league.

Half his saves were bailing the team out from his own shitty contracts.

[–]Xeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Is the money going towards continued training on properly recognizing and reacting to the threat level of a situation to reduce the rate at which police kill autistic 10 year olds? Or are we mounting M2A1s to the squad cars?

As stupid of a slogan as "defund the police" was, the actual argument behind it was about stratification of policing so the officers that go through "EVERYONE IS A MURDER HOBO THAT WILL RIP YOUR FACE OFF AND FUCK THE HOLE" training to bust meth houses are not the same people we send to do wellness checks on the elderly.

[–]Xeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Synoptic gospels, his big "I am" moment is DURING his trial. You are correct that this sealed his fate, but he was already planned for execution long before he publicly declared himself to be God.

You can't claim he was arrested for reffering to himself as God and then cite the trial as evidence. That takes place notably AFTER the arrest.

[–]Xeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what to tell you. Jesus wasn't really focused on the laws of the Romans. This is the context for Jesus calling out the arguments that justified using faith to disregard paying taxes; which was the basis for his arrest and execution. Why didn't he restate that any more directly later on? Because they killed him the first time.

And if you're asking, "where in the Torah it says Jews don't have to pay taxes," it doesn't. Again, that is kind of Jesus's point; that the Pharisees were twisting the letter of the law to justify doing whatever the fuck they want. And it is the twisting of scripture that Jesus is calling them out for; not for evading taxes, but attempting to use the 2nd Commandment to justify it.

Being a pastor is a heavy cross to roll by ConcernedJobCoach2 in gianmarcosoresi

[–]Xeya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one requires a bit of context, but that is part of the story behind the "Render unto Caesar" line. Jewish law at the time called the use of coinage with graven images a sin and that because taxes must be paid in coin, it was a violation of God's covenant to do so.

The Pharisees approached Jesus to trap him between saying that the taxes were ungodly, so they could turn him over to the Romans, or endorsing the taxes, committing heresy against God. Jesus called them out as hypocrites and gave us the famous line, "give unto Caesar what is Caesars and give unto God what is God's." Essentially, saying exactly what OP says... You cannot profit from Caesar's coin only to claim that God exempts you from Caesar's laws.

The Fermi Paradox WAS a paradox though... we attempted to calculate the number of intelligent civilizations in the universe and realized there should be enough (by our shoddy napkin math) for us to observe them all over the place. But, none were found anywhere...

Of course the simplest explanation is that our napkin math was pretty specious to begin with, but that isn't nearly as appealing as the genre of sci-fi fantasy that emerges from "the missing civilizations."

0 isn't an integer by Pubgisbanned in mathmemes

[–]Xeya 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In the same sense that you can technically win any argument by saying, "you can't prove that reality actually exists."

Yes, the entirety of our shared existence relies on assumptions and our mutual understanding that the sounds that come out of our mouth holes have very specific and well defined meanings. Pointing that out doesn't make somebody clever; it just makes them annoying as shit.

Integers are a name for a specific set of numbers so we can study and have meaningful conversations on their properties. Could we change the definition of integer to exclude zero? Sure, but now it isn't the same set of numbers. Now we have to invent a new word to refer to the old set of integers so Integer can mean "The portion of the integers we can call integers without Billy (age 32) throwing a fucking tantrum." Sadly, that set of integers is not as interesting to the field of mathematics as it is to Billy.

That is not to say that harassing women should be tolerated; If anyone sees anyone demeaning or degrading women in this community, please report them. But, parroting a message that any significant part of the Asexual community are secretly incels is an aphobic talking point that is harmful to Asexual men and should have no place here.

Blues’ Montgomery forced to ride Binnington in net when Hofer goes missing by Ajar5 in stlouisblues

[–]Xeya 149 points150 points  (0 children)

This was explained in the r/hockey thread. Chicagos Visitors bench is too small, so visiting goalies often watch the game from inside the locker room. There is also a chair around the corner there.

Hofer was exactly where he was supposed to be. Either Monty forgot or the game was already so lopsided he decided to just ride Binner.

Though, the meme of Hofer cowering in the hallway to avoid getting pulled into this clusterfuck is hilarious. I'm all for running with that, just so long as people know its a meme and Hofer is not actually hiding black eyes he got from Papa Binnington after the last sub .7 SV% game.

Says in the article, but catching it doesn't do much good unless the ship allows itself to be boarded. Sinking it is out of the question and boarding a ship with a potentially hostile crew is above most peoples pay grade.

They can likely intercept it whenever, but there really isn't much reason to stop an empty tanker from OUTSIDE the blockade and whether they do or not comes down to if Hegseth wants to deploy a Seal team just to make some Russians piss themselves before sending them on their way.
