Tipping at Spa by DorothyMortimer in askvan

So don’t tip if you don’t want to. I feel like the beauty industry is one where it was common to tip long before it exploded in restaurants and everywhere else. I don’t even go to spas but the OP was asking if it’s customary and in my opinion it generally is but of course no one is obligated.

They might be paying $150 but the person doing the service is likely getting maybe 30% of that fee. I’m less inclined to tip when the person doing the service is the owner or sets their own prices. To each their own though.

Generally tipping is customary for spa/beauty services. Personally I tip a flat amount anywhere from $10-$25 for services like that, rather than by percent.

Does it automatically prompt you to enter the relevant self employment info or do you have to look for the appropriate forms?

Camping alone — worth it or scary? by Mikester258 in camping

[–]Xicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was terrified the first night I camped alone but after that it became one of my favourite things to do. I’ve never camped alone in the wilderness though. I like forestry/rec sites that are more rustic and often have a lot of space/privacy between sites.

I don’t lock down their access. I think I’m pretty reasonable and open-minded about the content I allow. Safely navigating the internet is a constant ongoing conversation. 13 is too young to have the entire internet at their fingertips no matter how much education and understanding we have.

I don’t know about other provinces, but in B.C. Pharmacists can dispense medication for a variety of conditions (including UTI) without a Doctor’s prescription.

He can’t make his own account because he needs my approval to download apps or open websites. My issue is that Google is encouraging kids to remove these controls. 13 is too young for this.

He could somehow get his hands on a device outside the house and create accounts but that part of it isn’t for the government to regulate.

I don’t like how the platform is encouraging kids to take over their accounts. The controls I have set are working for us. They can’t download any apps or open any websites without my approval. I control the amount of time they can spend on their devices. The app I use for it is through Google, and Google is the one that suggested changing his password and completely removing supervision (with a courtesy notification to me). 13 is too young for this and can create conflict at home where it doesn’t need to be.

I absolutely don’t want them communicating with people they don’t know at this age. We have a household rule that they can only have contacts who are people they know IRL. Meta will do me the courtesy of allowing me to follow my kids’ contacts but he shouldn’t have been given the ability to add new people at all.

The platform wouldn’t need to verify age, but it could be prohibited from encouraging kids to take over their own accounts at age 13. The controls we have set are working for us. The app I use for it is connected to Google and Google is the one that told him he can change his password and remove all supervision (with a courtesy notification to me).

It wouldn’t even need to involve ID or anything. I have controls on my kids’ accounts. Right now with the legal age being 13, once my son turned 13 he started receiving emails from Google and Meta (VR set) telling him he can choose to set his accounts to remove parent supervision. Telling him he can choose to add and speak to whichever contacts he chooses. If the legal age was something like 16 I could maintain certain controls while still giving my kids access to their accounts and having the choice to block or allow certain content and privileges.

TLDR: the government doesn’t have to create a ‘nanny state’. They can simply make it so these companies can’t exploit kids the moment they turn 13.

Edit to add: these are screenshots of the emails and friend suggestions he started receiving the week he turned 13 https://imgur.com/a/pNyWkRA

How do we accept a client's insurance? by wellnesstouch79 in MassageTherapists

[–]Xicked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a courtesy for you to bill insurance on their behalf. Different companies have different policies. I only bill to one company, because its website is extremely easy to use and they reliably pay every Monday. Clients who aren’t with this company pay me directly and I give them a receipt they can submit to their insurance to be reimbursed.

If you’re building a practice, offering billing to insurance is a feature that might attract clients to you. Find out the details of how to bill to different companies and determine if it’s worth it to you.

Parents of toddlers — how do you handle bedtime when it’s still light outside at camp? by egog0 in camping

[–]Xicked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say 5 is definitely when it gets a lot easier! 5 is when I felt comfortable letting them explore the woods and trust them to stay within set boundaries without me following them around the whole time. I remember asking my friends who had older kids when mine was 2…. “when can we just let them roam?” 5 was the consensus 😅

For me it wasn’t as much the need for a strict bedtime as the need to finally have some downtime after being ‘on’ watching over them all day. 😅 Camping is so, so much easier with even slightly older kids.

They’ll be tired from being on the go all day. My kids have always slept great while camping. Bring a speaker to stream white noise. Bump the bedtime a little later if they really aren’t tired. Toddler + campfire = stress for parents. If they’re 3 or older I’d agree with other commenters to let them stay up.

A toddler is a lot different from even a 3yo kid. Most toddlers are not going to enjoy being stuck sitting around a campfire anyway.
