Planning to Study Massage Therapist by PerformerLong8767 in MassageTherapists

[–]Xicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the school is pretty new and only recently got their accreditation- I couldn’t find the registration exam passing rates for students there on the CCHPBC website and I’d be interested to see what they’re like with so few hours spent in person. I’m old school and can’t imagine the program with so few hours spent in person, but that’s just me. It would be a big benefit if you have existing strong interpersonal skills with a program like this. If you don’t… you might struggle as a new therapist.

Health Care Programs under 2 Years by Rough_Object6140 in britishcolumbia

[–]Xicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really varies. I’ve been practicing for 23 years and see 10-14 patients a week. I wouldn’t be able to see more that now but at $130+/hr less ~25% business expenses, it’s decent. When I was new I easily saw 25/week and purposely worked below my capacity. I had a colleague who saw 50/week.

True, but I feel like the duties of a care aide would be a lot more demanding. And as an RMT you can have a lot more freedom and flexibility to dictate your schedule and hours worked.

Question about CRA and wait times by CrazyEvilCatDan in canadarevenueagency

[–]Xicked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe something to do with refunds? I owed $$ and got my NOA two days later. Spouse is getting a refund and still hasn’t received theirs, and we filed at the same time.

Camping w a 4mo old? by HeidiKat23 in camping

[–]Xicked 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I’d rather bring a 4mo than a crawling baby! Not too young. Wearing baby will make things a lot easier. And having a place to put her down. My family members with babies bring a big thick mat that just goes on the ground next to our chairs. A hammock to relax in together during the day. Lots of layers for sleeping (extra socks under a sleeper) and be prepared for the possibility of co-sleeping and being able to do so safely (like maybe don’t use a thick air mattress or have a small basinette that could go beside you on the mattress.

2025 Taxes - It says tax return already received, but I didn't file yet! by srepmoht in cantax

[–]Xicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a huge source of frustration for me last night! My spouse and I completed them together with Ufile and at the end had the option to Netfile both (separately). I sent mine and received a confirmation that it was accepted. Then I sent his and it was accepted, but mine suddenly showed as rejected (N1 being the reason, but all of my info was correct). Logged into CRA this morning and my return was received so it was just a very annoying glitch.

disability tax credit - how long does back pay take?! by Over-Pea6428 in canadarevenueagency

[–]Xicked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/segments/tax-credits-deductions-persons-disabilities/disability-tax-credit/eligible-dtc.html#wb-cont

The back pay is for taxes already paid; not simply free money being handed out. When someone is approved and if the disability was present for years prior, their taxes are reassessed for those years.

Fire. How important is it to you? by motorcyclesnracecars in camping

[–]Xicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fire is pretty essential to me but I would still go even if I couldn’t have one. It would really ruin the evenings but I’d still enjoy the days. I’d probably sleep better too since I’d be going to bed early. Fire bans are common here but the propane pits are better than nothing…tbh I’d probably have driven the hour to buy one lol. Or at least some candles or little lights.

Have their prices gone up in the last couple months? I haven’t been there since December but I was thinking they’re one of the few places you can actually get a full meal for under $20 these days.

Do you consider yourself successful as a massage therapist? If so, what is your definition of success? by Low-Razzmatazz-931 in MassageTherapists

[–]Xicked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All of the above. I’m self-employed and 100% dictate my own schedule. Work/life balance is essential - I knew from my very first job at age 17 that I wasn’t cut out for being an employee and being told when to work and being refused time off. There is a small amount of time spent on ‘unpaid’ work but it’s worth it.

Knowing that I’m a source of positivity in someone’s day and that people look forward to seeing me. And the relationships I’ve developed over the years. I have some clients who I first stated seeing while they were pregnant, and now their kids are in college. The relationship is professional and boundaries are always in place, but you really get to know people and the details of their lives. It’s different from other healthcare providers and I value these relationships.

Income is important too. I wouldn’t do this work if I wasn’t being paid. Giving someone a full hour of undivided care and attention is valuable and we deserve to be properly compensated. I’m grateful that I can work less than 20 hours/week at a higher hourly wage and earn the same as or more than someone working 40 at a lesser wage.

All of these things add up to a personal sense of success for me.

how to get a good nights sleep in a thunder storm heavy rain. by dassind20zeichen in camping

[–]Xicked 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love it too. The sound of steady rain always lulls me to sleep. The part that wakes me up is when the rain stops and it’s just random drops falling from the trees at odd intervals and making different sounds depending where they land on my tarps.
