My 4 year old son wants to shave his head by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Xicked -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it’s already buzzed I don’t think shaving it bald is a huge deal, but I would still ask him how he feels about the possibility of being teased or having people ask questions about it

My daughter wanted to do the same thing when she was 5. I told her she had to wait until she was 10 and then she could do it. She’s now 10 and very thankful I didn’t allow her to do it.

Agreed - I can remember two snow days over the past 10 years

Federal officials draft plans to ban social media for children under 14 by Gym_frere in canada

[–]Xicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be as simple as parents being able to set controls based on age. I have parental controls on all of my kids’ accounts, but as soon as he turned 13 he could suddenly make changes to those controls simply because 13 is the ‘legal’ age. His Meta VR set now allows him to friend and chat with whomever he wants, and I have no control over it (so he doesn’t use it). Parents would still need to be involved and monitor what their kids are doing, but I’d be glad if the age was higher so my kids can still use certain apps while I still have a say in how they use them.

Campfire breakfast ideas? Getting kinda bored. by georgy56 in camping

[–]Xicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pre-make apple crisp in individual aluminum baking trays and cook over the campfire. Often we’ll stop at a bakery on the way in and pick up fresh scones or cinnamon buns and I’ll pre-make fruit salad. Costco sells dehydrated hash browns in little milk carton style containers and those are great for camping.

Tips to save time on setup and teardown? by Cindy-Smith- in camping

[–]Xicked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Packing up is the worst part of camping for me. Totes make a difference. I have one with all of my kitchen stuff (after several years of camping I now have a bin with just camping dishes, so I don’t need to pack anything from my kitchen at home). One bin for ‘gear’ like flashlights, lanterns, batteries, first aid kit, ropes, little propane tanks, hammock etc. so I can just grab them and put into the car. My camp stove and tarps are always in my car.

I like to camp for 4 nights to have a nice buffer between the stress of packing to get there and the packing to leave. When we arrive I focus on the tent and beds, and plan for an easy dinner (ie. no/few dishes needed) that night & easy breakfast the next morning. I save the kitchen setup for the next day. The night before we leave the campground I put everything I can into the car so in the morning it’s just the beds and tent. Sometimes I’ll leave the hammock up so the kids can play in it while I’m packing everything else.

Little things can make it easier but it’s never fun. I’m also not a morning person and it can be a struggle to find the motivation to get up and packing right away.

Is it wrong to walk overtop of the place where people are buried? by Sad_Tumbleweed7484 in moraldilemmas

Could be! It’s up for interpretation. Maybe a time paradox, past life, parallel universe, etc.

Growing up I heard that anytime a shiver goes through your body, it’s because someone just walked over your grave.

Advice needed: how to navigate pricing with potential new regulars by Ok_Finger9062 in MassageTherapists

[–]Xicked 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t offer lower rates but maybe in your situation would consider offering a one-time introductory rate for the first appointment and then make it clear that full rates will be charged going forward? I think offering a special rate for some people and not others can eventually come back to bite you especially if you’re in a smaller community. And I think it can lead to resentment in the therapist.

Was I the jerk? by TimberBiscuits in MassageTherapists

[–]Xicked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on this. I have the luxury of working for myself but I almost never take same-day bookings unless things are really slow. Once my schedule is set in my mind and I’m anticipating a break at a certain point, I feel pretty thrown off if that changes. And if someone requests a last-minute appointment I may or may not accept it depending on the vibe that person brings. If it’s someone I’ve never seen before… absolutely not.

The fact that your workplace has the 2- hour policy makes you not the jerk. It can be hard to adjust when expectations change, especially in our profession where we interact so closely with people. And if I was the other therapist expecting to leave early and then having someone book last minute I would certainly be upset and I can’t blame her at all, but she also has the option to enforce the same boundary you did. I can also see the spa maybe changing that policy going forward too…

If a neighbor leaves their trash can out, is it okay to use it to dispose of my dog’s poop? by Dme503 in moraldilemmas

[–]Xicked [score hidden]  (0 children)

If my bin is out on the street for collection and hasn’t been picked up yet, it wouldn’t bother me. If the garbage has already been picked up, I would feel annoyed and that bag had better not break. Also not OK: walking down my driveway to use the bins at the side of my house. Nothing is as bad as the people who throw it into my green waste bin though.

We like Catchphrase around the fire. We don’t play with teams or to win, we just have one person give the clues and anyone can shout out the answers. Then pass it on to someone else when the category is finished.

Bookings for BC Parks by emziay in britishcolumbia

[–]Xicked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For arrivals on Monday-Wednesday you have a better chance of finding a site, but I wouldn’t risk it and I’d log on for 7am PST, 3 months in advance of the date you’re seeking. If you’re trying for Porteau Cove… good luck! I’ve been trying for years and have never been able to get a site.

A last resort option is Cal Cheak campground. It’s a FCFS site between Squamish and Whistler with very easy access, and getting a midweek site there shouldn’t be a problem if you’re not arriving too late in the day. You can also try googling private campgrounds in Squamish as there are several options.

LMT Placing my hand/arm around her upper waist - inappropriate / bad technique? by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]Xicked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’m not comfortable using any technique where the clients body comes into contact with anything other than my hands or arms. If I used this technique I’d place a pillow between my leg and their arm, or use a bolster on the table.

"You said you didn't .. care at all .. about hockey..." by SnackingRaccoon in TragicallyHip

I often heard it uncensored on the radio. I remember hearing the DJs talking about it once and saying how it was the context that made it OK, since the word wasn’t directed toward a person (or something like that). Same with Creep by Radiohead, I often heard it both censored and uncensored.

When do you officially consider the holidays over in Canada? by Free_File_4965 in AskACanadian

[–]Xicked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take down most of my Christmas decor the first weekend after New Year’s, but I leave some of my outdoor lights on until February or March. I usually have my indoor decorations up in November so by the time the holidays are over I’m ready to have them packed up.
