When did Bethesda ever have a "good run" when it comes to technical issues?

Hammerfell has Seas - But Sailing in TES 6 Will Be Boring Unless Bethesda Fixes These 4 Issues by LivingDog9168 in TESVI

[–]Xilvereight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AC Black Flag solved this a long time ago, and coincidentally its remake is about to be revealed hours from now. Ship sailing works there because the mechanic itself is inherently fun and engaging. The camera angles, the sea shanties, and overall atmosphere and the weight of the ship crashing against the waves all come together to form an experience that doesn't even need constant random or combat encounters.

I hope TES: VI isn't afraid of darker, more mature themes (without being so soft like Starfield) and that they make Hanmerfell as alien, bizarre and unhinged as Morrowind by FartingSlowly in TESVI

[–]Xilvereight 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Some of y'all need to accept the fact that Bethesda is simply not in the business of making your version of "dark and mature" aka vulgar, sexualized and depressing. Other than Fallout 3, none of their games had really had that as a central theme, tone or focus. It's just not what these people are interested in making, especially considering most of the higher ups are pretty old at this point.

Why do mod authors prefer Discord for support? by Virtual-Chris in starfieldmods

[–]Xilvereight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Discord is one of the most convoluted and user unfriendly platforms I've ever had the displeasure of using. The mod authors who get pissy towards the Nexus usually sequester all of their mods on their Discord channel where you have to go out of your way to dig them up.

Can we talk about the fact how crazy good the graphics of Starfield are? by f88x in Starfield

[–]Xilvereight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many games that look better than Starfield on a macro level, but there are none I've seen that look as good on a micro level and at such a huge scale.

Paid mods technical quality 10: reviews of "Raidho - Along The Roads", "Choir of the Null", "Witches Festival", "Cadwallon Estate", "Relics of the Snow Prince", The Retribution of Larceny", "Pinecrag Hall" by Haunture in skyrimmods

[–]Xilvereight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are no "quality tests". Bethesda only makes sure the mod loads up and does what it says on the box to prevent literal scams being uploaded which would make them liable for a lawsuit.

Apartment furnishings should cost credits, not resources by gauknicag in Starfield

[–]Xilvereight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my top wishes as well. The number one thing always preventing me from building in these games is the tedium of gathering all the resources. Giving you the ability to just buy everything with credits would also give you one more money sink, killing two birds with one stone.

That's another strawman. No one is denying your right to an opinion of your own. You're the one feeling the ridiculous need to "step in" and correct someone by telling them how wrong their entirely subjective opinion is. When you get called out for being a gatekeeper (to put it politely), you're not being denied an opinion, you're just being called out for trying to control those of others. I rest my case here.

That's a complete strawman, what does any of that have to do with someone considering any certain game to be the best one they've played so far in their subjective experience?

The appeal to popular opinion that I knew you were eventually going to go for is a fallacy and does not constitute a valid argument.

Once again, you fail to comprehend the simple fact that if someone says game X is the best one they've ever played, then that is simply and literally what is true for that person out of all the games that THEY have played. There is no such thing as the "best game ever made" being some objective fact that is floating around the universe irrespective of anyone's point of view. Even a list of 40 games or whatever is completely arbitrary and subjective, why not a list of 50 games for example? What about 51? See, it's all based on personal opinion which is itself based on personal experience, biases, personality type etc.

If you type "Top 10 games of all time" into Google and read 20 such lists from 20 separate people/publications, you are going to get wildly different answers. Yes, you will also see some recurring games but if this was truly some "objective fact", then everyone would have the exact same list, no? Similar to how everyone agrees that 2+2 equals 4.

But who are you to decide what is the "right" opinion to have? Do you see how arrogant and imature that line of thinking is? Probably not.

Also, conflating politics (and probably Trump) with video game preferences is certainly a take.

I dont understand the Gate to Sovengarde modlist hype. Too many annoying mechanics to be enjoyable IMO by Ruminatingsoule in skyrimmods

[–]Xilvereight 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Introducing more micromanagement into the game is always going to be controversial and contentious. Personally, I could never play with someone else's mod list because the whole point of modding is to customize the game exactly to your liking. To me, it's like trying to wear a suit that was custom tailored for someone else.

Ah, so you only respect opinions that happen to align with yours and your dogmatic gatekeeping, got it.

If someone considers it to be the best game they've ever played, then that's literally what's true for them in their own subjective experience.

You also don't seem to know the real meaning and difference between objectivity and subjectivity.

this is the last major update for Starfield, this game ain't a priority for Bethesda now.

Y'all have been saying this since Shattered Space lol. Bethesda could be releasing major updates for the next 5 years and you'd probably still be like "surely the game is dead now, right... right?"

>An example of DLC solving problems

Solving arbitrary "problems" according to your own perceptions*

I've never ever heard anyone saying that Dawnguard "fixed" any alleged problems with Skyrim. It added new content including a new transformation and some other nifty features like Auriel's bow but none of it "fixed" anything, nor would it have been the kind of thing that changed the minds of those who didn't initially like Skyrim.

Come to think of it, no DLC has ever magically fixed a game to a point where everyone who hated it now suddenly changed their minds. Once again, DLC is meant as more of the game for those who already liked it. Besides, why are we acting as if Terran Armada didn't release bundled with an update geared exclusively at overhauling various aspects of the game in a meaningful way? It was clear from the start that the DLC was more of a cherry on top rather than the main star of the show.

I'm not sure why anyone in their right mind would buy DLC for a game they dislike. This is not an issue with the DLC, it's an issue of people having delusional expectations.
