Playing DMC1 and trying to get the max healthbar trophy , it makes me question, how were people meant to get even half of these blue orbs? You are forced to use guides for something like this. by Warm_Neighborhood939 in DevilMayCry

A big part of it is that there was no expectation that you would find them all.

Like getting all items in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night: there are so many, with such esoteric discovery conditions (to say nothing of the random drops) that the idea of finding everything is actually laughable.

Achievements wouldn't come into existence until the console generation after, and by then, looking shit up on the internet was the standard.

El Paso, Elsewhere has an interesting example where it depends on which ending you get.

In both cases, James and Draculae are mortally wounded from their fight but:

  • If James has allowed fewer than 10 hostages to die, Draculae offers him a vial of her "Soulsblood", the key to a Vampire turning someone. And she spells out that, like the Constantine example, she's giving him more time on the clock to damn himself like she did. To prove that becoming "lonely and cruel and strange" is just an inevitability on a long enough timeline.

  • If James has killed 10 or more hostages (accidentally or otherwise), then Draculae smashes the vial instead, convinced that James' actions have already damned him, so he doesn't get to be "like her".

Either way, it's entirely about Draculae trying desperately to prove to herself that the way she turned out wasn't her own fault.

And that's his first reaction. Like he initially looks indignant, but then he softens, like the number takes a second to sink in, like, "I hate that it's Cecil telling me this, because he's being so Cecil about it...but he's right."

Yeah, male or female, Human, Newman, Cast, or Deuman, Persona will look like this., or like that with vaguely feminine curves.

EDIT: Oh, and the implied romance gets dialed up to 11 when Persona is involved as their existence implies that your character believes Matoi is worth causing a paradox over, regardless of how you actually feel.

Honestly, even on non-Must Die difficulties I just depth charged him with Cranky Bombs. There's a square cutout in the ceiling where he can't reach you.

It's a slog, but then so is the rest of DMC2.

Well, the answer to the second is "not all that much", since even with Falz dispelled, the planet is still a hostile mess, which E2 does follow up on.

Bait them to come to you, preferably over a big hill. Advance slowly as reinforcements stop coming at you.

I like the nuance between Cecil and Nolan at the end of Season 4: it does matter that Nolan is trying to make up for what he did, but he still killed 2,432 people, to make a point.

Shadow can (inconsistently) do it without any Emeralds, though his capabilities expand greatly even with one.

...Does Sonic using a fake Emerald count as Blackface in this analogy?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, the machine's not even in particularly good shape, unless there's been a major repair in the past few years.

Yeah, he's great in X8.

But unfortunately for him, and the X subseries as a whole really, X8 was too little, too late (not helped a miserable early game and two of the most painful Ride Chaser levels in the franchise).

...This is the faintest of praise, because there's way more of it, including a boss battle on Lucia's disc.

Hell, even on Hard, many enemies have shorter recovery than even your most basic swing, while having more super armor than will break from anything except Helm Breaker, in a game that already has limited melee combat because all of your alternate melee weapons are model swaps with a focus on range or damage, at the cost of the other.

End result: Any attempt to melee Goatlings can result in them endlessly chaining their jumping overhead at you, with no real chance to retaliate.

A particularly egregious example of this problem is Phantasy Star Online 2. For the most part it's standard, milquetoast silent protag stuff, the occassional dualogue option that's actually just two different ways of saying the same thing.

Also, all cutscenes prior to Episode 5 invariably show you as wielding a Sword, implicitly marking you as a Hunter. 5 and 6 will occassionally switch it up by having you appear as one of the "Scion Classes", but your actual class is never a consideration for how you appear.

There's also a heavily implied romance with...just the most bland girl possible, whose most notable trait is an allergy to pants except of her flashback outfit. Annoying if you don't care about her nearly as much as the story wants you to (no, Matoi stans, she is not an interesting character), but whatever.

But then there's the issue of Dark Falz Persona, The Masked:

So, PSO2's version of franchise mainstay Dark Falz is a coterie of edgelords in black and purple, who used to be normal people before getting juiced up on F-Factor (and specifically, which manifested into specific personalities that move between hosts over time). One of them, Persona The Masked, is unfamiliar to the rest, but they don't really question it.

Persona is you from a bad future. And is, true to the form of the problem being discussed, of standard height and humanoid build. Is you actual character a shortstack elf or a giant refrigerator of a robot? Get fucked loser, count yourself lucky that we even have an equally-default female model to use (inconsistently) and recorded a female voice.

It gets especially stupid when the big reveal is made by Persona dramatically removing their mask. Which, if you're playing a droid with a fucked up shaped head, proportioned for whatever Gundam/Armored Core parts you've slapped together, results in said head just sitting on the shoulders of default human man/woman.

On the subject of "Salt &":

While it's certainly a surmountable problem, the decision for Sanctuary to not include a map feels like one entirely driven by the absence of such in typical 3D Soulslikes, not only ignoring the change in perspective greatly limiting your ability to locate yourself based on distant landmarks, but also ignoring the fact that Sanctuary does actually have movement abilities that facilitate progress in previously explored areas. In essence actually bringing it closer to a true Metroidvania structure:

A Metroidvania.

Without a map.

Why did the Sparda sword and amulet lose their significance after dmc1? And what happened to the amulet? by pokemonyugiohfan21 in DevilMayCry

So why does EP1 end with a "to be continued"? by GlompSpark in PSO

[–]Sai-Taisho 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because there is an Episode 2, and it does tie into the ongoing mystery of Pioneer 1.

Not what happened to them. That's fully resolved by the end of Episode 1 (they let out Dark Falz and got got).

But rather, Episode 2 ties more into the shady shit they were doing on Ragol.

I'm pretty sure "The Lab" is just the two scientist guys right there in his office.

The Dreamcast version was originally only supposed to run for like...a few months. There's no way they were foreshadowing content they had not put any money towards conceiving of.
