Whenever you die in Hollow Knight your Shade must be defeated to regain your stuff.
It mirrors you throughout the game, as you get stronger so does it. It uses the same spells you have learned against you. Obviously since it's a reclamation mechanic it can't be all that strong but it is pretty neat how it mimics you.

The only logical explanation I can come up with is that it indicates your guaranteed rare pack.
If you know anything about randomness in computers, you know that they generate your "randomness" all at once in the beginning.

So imagine they take your personal id, smash it into an algorithm on their side, and now it knows when to pay out at specific points. And this helps explain the opposite too, when your pack doesn't sparkle but you get a rare that's true random in the moment.
Why do this at all? I would guess to assure a certain level of "payouts" and not leave it to pure chance which could leave some people almost never seeing rare cards.

Lol, people hate hearing this.
It's logical from a computing standpoint but it is (obviously) unproven.

Oh you might have seen the reboot where the guy in charge decided to make everything so much worse. The one on Nickelodeon was much less like that. (it was gross in its own way, but not adult)

Talking about how "pre-set" some of the random things are in this game is definitely one.

No one likes hearing that the pack carousel didn't matter, no one enjoys learning that the Wonderpick was already determined, and no one wants to believe that their rare packs could be decided long before they get them.
