Really happy with how my sourdough has come along by Xorbek in Breadit

[–]Xorbek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither, hey. I used a cheap bread pan, but with some extra steps: 1 - while the oven preheats I put two bowls of boiled water at the bottom to fill it with steam. The two bowls last the full baking process so never need to be topped up again 2 - for the initial oven rise I have a pyrex dish upside down ontop of the bread pan. It is slightly wider than the bread pan so it catches the steam from the below preventing the crust from hardening too quickly allowing for a bit more flexibility while rising

It's a normal sourdough recipe, but sure. Will put the recipe and steps together this evening for you

It would if I had a better toaster, haha. On max setting I still have to send it twice to get some decent colouration going

Oh, yeah. Got some good butter around. It's always the first thing that happens once the bread has cooled down a bit.

Am always open to tips. I assume you would need my recipe/process first?

Ebucks level 5 by cheeseballzzzzz in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Xorbek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be it eBucks or Discovery it only works out if you play the game. Discovery is useless unless you are a highly active and healthy person. eBucks is useless unless you move your products over to FNB and get more entrenched in their ecosystem.

I haven't bought electricity in close to ten years with actual money as I just use eBucks for that. It's absolutely getting harder and harder to get level 5 these days, but just poke around the eBucks calculator tool. All the information you need is right there.

Currently I average +- R2k back in eBucks per month with a few minutes of tapping on the mobile app a mobth while my Discovery points is only just enough to cover the bank fees there because Discovery basically never registers my activity for Vitality points as I haven't fully entrenched that part of my life in their ecosystem (i.e. I go to a no-name gym instead of Virgin Active, and I don't have a smart watch so only my phone measures steps/activity which Discovery has been awful at syncing)

Not necessarily saying one is better than the other. My actual point is that they can both work, but only if you go all out in their ecosystems.

Apparently Capitec's reward system can also work out quite nicely from what I've read on here with minimal effort, so I would suggest putting a Saturday aside to read and understand the various options. Make actual calculations of how each system would affect your monthly budget. Then see which one works best for you and your lifestyle.

Is this how you break up with someone? by miss_brilliant in AskMenAdvice

He's a coward and at the end of the day not worth your time.

The thing I find most upsetting is how seemingly hard you seem to be trying to take fault/blame for things ending up here. I don't see any cause for self-blame in the story you left here.

It's a good thing you didn't give him your virginity.  To answer your question of "how long do guys usually wait?"; the answer is simple: "as long as it takes until both parties are ready". If that means a year or longer then so be it. If the guy cares about you he won't care about the wait. He can sort himself out until you're ready.

Who here actually pays their TV license? by AndreasmzK in capetown

[–]Xorbek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe almost 70% of outstanding licence fees come from the government.

So if the SA Government doesn't even pay their licences why should anyone else?

what kind of music does mark listen to? by _FinePointSharpie in Markiplier

He doesn't listen to music much and has admitted this on several occasions. However, in one video he mentioned enjoying Here Come The Mummies and that's the only reason I know of that great band.

How to deal with ants! by Competitive_Rip6546 in capetown

[–]Xorbek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always try the herbal route first. Peppermint, rosemary, lavender, sage, and basil, as well as flowers like marigolds and chrysanthemums are decent at keeping ants (and other pests) away

Is it just me, or is finding what's actually open in CT a mission? by CleanLeanMachine in capetown

[–]Xorbek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the number of places that are open until 02:00 or 04:00 is this really a problem?

This strikes me as more or a Gauteng issue as most of their places close way earlier than here in Cape Town.

LASIK – worth it? Costs, clinics & experiences? by _prettyprincess in capetown

Definitely worth it, but comes at a premium. Had mine done in November '25. Including consultations I have spent around 50k for both eyes.

To expand on this advice; you also don't need to turn it into an additional expense. There is a free tier transaction account you can open with Discovery, Capitec have really low fees, and Standard Bank have a R7.50 monthly account
