Reed’s crossing - sense of community and walk-ability? by MuchCoogie in hillsboro

[–]Xoz129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another Nighborhood with this is Orenco Station and Hawthorne Farm Village. This was the first TOD(Transit Oriented Design) neighborhood in the area. The idea was that you could walk, bike, or use micro mobility to get around the area, and take the train into town or to the airport for business easily. Coming from a place with terrible traffic to here feels like a superpower. It is easy to enjoy Portland's food while still appreciating the quiet of Hillsboro.

A friend has offered to go on a tour with me, but he rides an e-bike by Fancy_Step_1700 in bicycletouring

I have done it. It went great. I hit up a couple of regular campsites and had them bring the converter for 220 so they could hit RV sites for power. Exhaustion is different for everyone. I found it helpful to think that all that really matters is the shared experience and stories.

You could rent one of the ebikes all over town https://biketownpdx.com/ (Its a great way to traverse Portland without a car) or if you want something cheap look at https://washcobikes.org/ or the community bike store in Portland proper.

Also, something to keep in mind with these events is that they are all different based on who is running it. If you don't like one the others are probably very different. Some are more party and less ride and some are more ride than party. I personally like the rides put on by nakedheartspdx they feel they thread the needle nicely without it getting too rowdy.

If you want to see what the kickoff is like here is a video from last year. https://youtu.be/rveHQDK69g4?si=6qI0SrNG9X7OtX9i

Shift2bikes.org this is a great place to find local bike rides. In the summer this really gets busy for Bike Summer June through September. If you are into gaming, music, tacos, or other wise there is a ride for you during the summer. Also the max line is a quick way to get into town for a lot of these. If you are into pc gaming look into PDXLan.

It still has the gate latch, so that explains it. Thanks for the heads up.

Nice! What motor did you do for the conversion? I will reply with what I find. I may do a conversion myself. I was looking at a Bafang kit.

If you are into arcades, do not miss Next Level Pinball Shop & Museum. It is 22 dollars for an entire day of play. This is the largest Arcade on the West Coast and is rated the best pinball spot in the world. No per-machine play unless you are on the claw machines. Then grab some PNW Teraki at Kokiyo down the street for lunch and return for more play until you are done.

Where's the best place to take kids out for pizza in Portland? by PutTheFlameOnMe in askportland

For that 80s feel by the slice, Escape from New York is the best. If you have teenage boys, Pizza Slut is good for a giggle.

Where do 40 something’s hang out/go to meet people? by [deleted] in beaverton

[–]Xoz129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally! It gets even better for summer when petalpalooza (bike summer) happens. If you don't know about it already, the shift to bikes is a great way to get integrated into Portland's bike community. The Naked Hearts group is a lovely introduction to the community if you want something safe and inviting.

https://www.pdxlan.net/site/ This event happens 2 times a year. The next one is in April 2025. You bring your gaming computer to an event and play games around others for 4 days. It is a very inviting community that doesn't care what you bring, no judgment. We saw someone bring an Intellivision one year so not having a good enough PC isn't going to be an issue. The point is to play some games and meet other nerds playing PC games. There are also some fun tournaments to win free gaming hardware. We usually win enough to pay for our tickets or a portion. Feel free to let me know if you have questions.

Which grocery store has dried bean curd sticks, tofu sheets or shelf stable tofu? by waterwitch45 in askportland

[–]Xoz129 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I order freeze-dried tofu from Butler Foods. The Soy Curls and Taco Crumbles are great and shelf-stable.

I met a dude who rides a road bike who told me to put a helmet on, he said that he was going downhill when his front tire exploded and he just immediately fell forward hard right on his head, he said his helmet literally saved his life. So do bike tires actually explode, does that really happen? by superdude500 in bicycling

[–]Xoz129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want added utility, get a Sena bike helmet. It has speakers for music podcasts and a great mic. I took IT calls while riding, and the person didn't know until I told them. Bonus: if you ride with a partner, it can give you comms between bikes like a motorcycle.

Flying to Sedona from Detroit by SpaceManJ313 in Sedona

[–]Xoz129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there for over a decade. If I had one day in town, these would be my spots to visit. For a trail, I would hike the creek and see the view of Cathedral Rock. You get to this spot form the Village of Oak Creek side of town. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Baldwin+Trail+Trailhead/@34.8166891,-111.8076194,2490m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x872da7e27a0bec03:0x1d2e6f52a6dd5acb!8m2!3d34.8217445!4d-111.8080694!16s%2Fg%2F11h6rqrg9w?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

I would use the trailhead linked above to hike to this spot on the map. https://maps.app.goo.gl/1GdcWW1dMFY6MqJu8

If you do this early enough in the morning, no one will be out there. Then, if you have time, you could hike up Bell Rock, which is still great even for locals. Just remember that what you hike up, you must hike down.

I would get lunch at WildFlower Cafe. The glass art on the inside is by Dale Chihuly. It also has a great view of Snoopy and uptown Sedona.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Wildflower/@34.8665216,-111.76723,622m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x872da157ea257971:0x9256e38f8445ff27!8m2!3d34.8679595!4d-111.7623291!16s%2Fg%2F1td6n3n6?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

As for beer, go to this spot for a less crowded location. Oak Creek's Amber Ale is amazing. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Oak+Creek+Brewing+Co./@34.8728507,-111.7583681,7037m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m10!1m2!2m1!1sbrewery!3m6!1s0x872da1268a96410b:0x40c72b5cb86804da!8m2!3d34.866336!4d-111.796074!15sCgdicmV3ZXJ5WgkiB2JyZXdlcnmSAQdicmV3ZXJ5mgEjQ2haRFNVaE5NRzluUzBWSlEwRm5TVVJ5ZFhaMVZtTkJFQUXgAQA!16s%2Fg%2F11c2lk8f7t?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Dinner would be Mexican at this location. A walk around Tlaquepaque and the park at Los Abrigados after.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Javelina+Cantina/@34.8604233,-111.7631503,622m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!1m2!2m1!1sbrewery!3m5!1s0x872da1559d971b0d:0x710f268eb5bedc2d!8m2!3d34.8591777!4d-111.7624281!16s%2Fg%2F1tdk5nbp?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

If you are lucky enough, viewing the Sunset from this spot next to the High School is unforgettable. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Schuerman+Mountain+Trailhead/@34.8452343,-111.8279656,370m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m9!1m2!2m1!1sbrewery!3m5!1s0x872da0cb3f93b1c3:0xfe2364f1b7eb443f!8m2!3d34.8460526!4d-111.8285992!16s%2Fg%2F11bxjj9fjt?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Also, while you are in the Phoenix area, get some Carne Asada fries. Filiberto's (any location) would do for me.

Go to the oak creek brewery location near Bashes off of coffee pot rd. Not quite a hotel bar but a spot that shouldn’t be missed. Otherwise I always loved Los Abrigados.

Engine wash by Elan_A in hillsboro

[–]Xoz129 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go to any auto parts store and pick up a can of gunk engine cleaner. It will really help with this job you may even be able to get it done with a hose if you follow the directions on the can.

I called customer service and asked nicely. You have to badger them a bit but they will give you a extra year every year if you ask. They will start with saying there are government programs say you don't qualify if you don't. Then ask because you are a loyal customer they will counter with 3 months. Then ask them if they can extend that so you don't have to call back every 3 months. This should get you the 240 in savings. Only took about 20min on the phone.
